Kevin Harvick Truck Series Advance: New Hampshire Motor Speedway

WINNER, WINNER, WINNER: This weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Kevin Harvick will get behind the wheel of the No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado for the fifth time in 2010. In his four Truck Series starts this season, the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) co-owner has visited victory lane three times (Atlanta Motor Speedway, Martinsville [Va.] Speedway and Gateway [Ill.] International Raceway), and finished second in his only non-victory of the year at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway. In 2010, Harvick has an average starting position of 3.75 and an average finish of 1.25 in the No. 2 truck.

COMPLETING THE SET: Harvick has already experienced success at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, and he is looking to achieve the same success in the Truck Series this weekend in Loudon, New Hampshire. Harvick won both the pole position and the race in the Cup Series in the fall of 2006, and in the Nationwide Series, he has scored a win and four first-place starting positions (three poles awarded by speed [2007, 2005 and 2001], one set by the NASCAR Rule Book due to weather [2003]) at the 1.058-mile oval. Should Harvick win this weekend, he would become the second driver to win in all of NASCAR’s top-three series (Cup, Nationwide, and Truck) at the “Magic Mile,” joining Kyle Busch in the record books after he completed the feat by winning the Truck Series race last fall. Harvick would become the first driver to win a pole in each of the top-three series at NHMS if he qualifies fastest this weekend.

WELCOME JEGS: Harvick will sport a bright new paint scheme this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as KHI welcomes aboard JEGS.com as sponsor of the No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado. The KHI partnership comes amidst the JEGS Mail Order 50th anniversary celebration, which the high-performance retailer has been celebrating throughout 2010 via consumer promotions and motorsports sponsorships.

THOUGHTS FROM THE BOSS: Kevin Harvick

What are your thoughts going into the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

“I always look forward to the flat racetracks like New Hampshire Motor Speedway, since I’ve always been successful on them and so has our team. Ron [Hornaday] has three wins at the track, two of them in KHI trucks, so I have no doubt that we have the ability to show up and win. Tracks like Loudon are a lot of fun, and I’ve won there in both the Cup and Nationwide Series, so it would be cool if I can get the Truck Series win and add this to the list of tracks where I have won in all three series. ”

What makes racing on a flat track like New Hampshire more enjoyable?

“I’ve always liked the flat tracks. New Hampshire is a lot like Phoenix and I grew up racing there (Phoenix) when I was first starting out, so I feel like that my success on flat tracks has carried over to my career in NASCAR’s top series. There’s a lot of braking. You have to really work on getting your car through the center of the corner and still have the forward bite you need up off the corner, so you get all three aspects of the truck, the driver and the set-up all in one.”

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Shelby Howard recorded his career-best Kentucky Speedway finish of 19th in the Built Ford Tough 225. Howard fought a loose-handling truck throughout the race, but was able to record a top-20 finish in the Bluegrass State.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 team will utilize chassis No. 049 this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. No. 049 is a brand-new chassis which has not yet seen a lap of competition. All three of Harvick’s Truck Series wins in 2010 have been in a brand-new chassis.
