Travis Kvapil on driving at Daytona International Speedway “Running at Daytona [International Speedway] in the [NASCAR Camping World] Truck Series is always a lot of fun.  The trucks punch a big hole in the air and create big drafts, so it’s a lot of exciting racing.  I’ve been very close to winning there twice, so hopefully we can seal the deal this weekend.  I feel really confident that if we can go there and run up front, we will be in the mix toward the end and have a shot at winning.”

Travis Kvapil Driver Bio Birthdate:  March 1, 1976 Hometown:  Janesville, WI Residence:  Mooresville, NC Status:  Married to Jennifer Children:  Kelsey, Carson, Caden With the 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship highlighting his resume, Travis Kvapil is sure to be an asset to the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team throughout the 2011 season at Randy Moss Motorsports.  Over the last decade, the Janesville, Wis., native has established himself as a tough competitor in the top levels of motorsports and a mainstay in the NASCAR arena.

In 2011, Kvapil will take over the wheel of the No. 5 machine to chase his second NCWTS title in his young career.

Growing up working on cars in his dad’s garage, racing was a natural progression for Wisconsin-native Travis Kvapil. Kvapil first got behind the wheel of a racecar at the age of 14, competing at Rockford Speedway and sharpening his skills on the Midwest short track circuits.  By 18, Kvapil won the American Short Tracker division track championship, and then moved up the ranks to race Super Late Models at Madison International Speedway.

“Wisconsin’s Fastest Half Mile” couldn’t slow down Kvapil, who earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1995 in his first season of competition.  Kvapil returned to the track the following year, earning the championship and becoming the youngest Super Late Model track champion in Madison International Speedway’s history.

In 2001, Kvapil made his debut in the NASCAR ranks, earning a ride in the No. 60 Addington Racing entry in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Kvapil posted his first top-10 when he finished runner-up in his just his second NCWTS start at Homestead-Miami Speedway that February.

Kvapil would ultimately score 11 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes in 24 races that season, finishing fourth in the NCWTS driver standings as a rookie.  Kvapil earned his first win in the series at Texas Motor Speedway and took home the NCWTS Rookie of the Year title.

After signing with Xpress Motorsports, Kvapil drove the No. 16 truck in 2003.  Kvapil added another win to his stats after taking the checkered flag at Bristol Motor Speedway, and completed all but one lap that season, earning a 99.9% lap completion rate.  With 13 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes in the first 24 starts of the season, a sixth-place finish at the season-ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway would allow Kvapil to edge out Dennis Setzer by nine points to win the 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship.

In 2004, Kvapil brought his talents to Bang! Racing, driving the No. 24 truck for Alexander Meshkin.  During that season, Kvapil gave Toyota its first win in one of NASCAR’s top-three series at Michigan International Speedway, and then earned his second win of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Kvapil earned his first career pole and totaled six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes, finishing in the top-10 in driver points for the fourth consecutive season.  Additionally, near the end of the 2004 season, Roger Penske invited Kvapil to drive the No. 06 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry for Penske Racing for three races. Kvapil qualified fifth in his NSCS debut, finishing 21st. Roger Penske was so impressed by Kvapil’s performance in the three races he completed that he signed him to drive the No. 77 for the 2005 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Despite earning two top-10 finishes, the No. 77 team closed its doors at the end of the season.  Kvapil got behind the wheel of the No. 32 Tide Chevrolet for PPI Motorsports in 2006.

Kvapil received a huge opportunity when Jack Roush, owner of Roush Fenway Racing, offered him a seat in the No. 6 Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2007.  Kvapil had a landmark season, collecting four wins, three poles, eight top-five and 12 top-10 finishes, ending the season sixth in the driver standings.

Since 2008, Kvapil has been a mainstay in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage while racing for Yates Racing and Front Row Motorsports.  With a handful of top-ten finishes and a pole award from Talladega Superspeedway (Oct. 2008) in the Sprint Cup Series, Kvapil returns to Randy Moss Motorsports with the hope of winning his second NCWTS title.

Matt Kenseth – Crown Royal Black Racing – Daytona 500 Advance

Matt Kenseth – NSCS ADVANCE Team:           No. 17 Crown Royal Black Ford Fusion Crew Chief:  Jimmy Fennig Chassis:       Primary: RK-713 (Brand new chassis)

Kenseth on racing at Daytona International Speedway : “The Daytona 500 is our biggest race of the year, so when you can win that race it is one of the things you like to collect. You want to win every week, but if you had to pick one race, this would be one of them. It was great to win it back in 2009, and I’d really like to win it again.  The new surface has so much more grip now that we’re able to change lanes at the drop of the hat and put the car wherever we want. You couldn’t do that before because the pavement was so worn out and we had such big restrictor plates.  Drafting partners were really important in the Shootout, but I’m interested to see how the race plays out with a full field of 43 cars all together for the 500.”

Crew chief Jimmy Fennig on racing at Daytona International Speedway : “After Saturday night’s Shootout, we really saw how important having a drafting partner is with this new surface.  Our focus is to find as much speed as we can in our Crown Royal Black Ford since handling isn’t as much of a hassle as it has been in the past at Daytona.  We’ll look to have a strong run in Thursday’s Duel race so that we can earn a good starting position for the 500 on Sunday and start the season off on the right foot.”

FAST FACTS:

•        Kenseth has led laps in four of his last five consecutive Daytona 500 races

•        Kenseth has an average starting position of 22.2 and an average finishing position of 17.3 at Daytona

•        Kenseth has achieved one win, three top-5’s, and ten top-10’s at Daytona

•        Kenseth has completed 3,564 of 3,845 (92.7 percent) laps at Daytona and led for a total of 69 laps

•        This weekend at Daytona, Kenseth will pilot the No. 17 Crown Royal Black Ford Fusion

White will again drive the No. 23 carrying the familiar GunBroker.com paint scheme but will make the transition to Chevrolet’s powered by PME engines.

·         JDM will have a technical alliance with the prestigious Kevin Harvick Inc. in 2011. The rookie team will field the NCWTS entries and KHI will provide chassis and technical support.

·         Joe Denette Motorsports’ very own Jason White is the reigning 2010 Keystone Light Pole Award winner at Daytona International Speedway with a fast lap of 177.525 mph.

·         Joe Denette, President of Joe Denette Motorsports, is expecting the birth of his first child, a baby boy on February 25th.

White’s NCWTS Stats: White will make his 105th NCWTS start in the 2011 season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 18th. The Richmond, VA native has led 127 laps in his three year tenure in the series, notching five top-five and 11 top-10 finishes, along with one pole award. White capped off the 2010 season with a series best 10th place finish in the championship points battle and plans to contend for his first series title in 2011.

Welcome: Fueled by his passion for motorsports, NASCAR enthusiast and Mega Millions lottery winner Joe Denette formed Joe Denette Motorsports, NASCAR’s newest Camping World Truck Series Team.

After winning the May, 2009 lottery, Denette participated in a pace car ride around Richmond International Raceway by Mega Millions Lottery promoter and Virginia native, Hermie Sadler. The two kept in touch and when Denette decided he wanted to start a race team, he leaned on Sadler to point him in the right direction.   Joe Denette Motorsports opened the doors of its Huntersville, NC based shop just six weeks prior to Daytona.

Jason White at Daytona:In four starts at Daytona, White has led 10 laps and brought home one top-5 and one pole.

Calling the Shots:Calling the shots for White and the No. 23 GunBroker.com team will be Chad Kendrick. Kendrick comes to Joe Denette Motorsports from Germain Racing and has more than three years of experience as a crew chief working with drivers such as Timothy Peters, Stacey Compton, Max Papis and Narain Karthikeyan.

This Week’s No. 23 GunBroker.com Chevy:A long standing tradition with the GunBroker.com team will carry over to the newly formed, Joe Denette Motorsports. The team will name their chassis after guns. Jason White will pilot “Beretta” in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. Beretta guns are, “designed for maximum performance in any event,” and that is exactly what White and the No. 23 GunBroker.com team hopes for in their first event of 2011.

We’re Guessing He Signs His Name Fast Too:White will join other NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers for an autograph session on Friday, February 18th from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Sprint FANZONE prior to the NextEra Energy Resources 250.

Quoting Jason White: Will there be any added pressure on you this year working with a rookie team? “I don’t think so. Joe has the right people in place here at JDM and most of the guys on the team came from the GunBroker.com team last year. We will be getting our trucks from KHI and our engines from PME and Chad Kendrick will be calling the shots on top of the pit box. I’m confident that we will win races this year and contend for a championship.”

Your team owner, Joe Denette obviously likes to gamble. Would you consider yourself a gambler on the race track, especially at Daytona? “You have to be willing to gamble on the track, especially superspeedways. You take your chances on when to make your move and not knowing if someone will pull out and run with you. Doesn’t the old saying go, you have to know when to hold them and know when to fold them? Big risks equal big rewards!”

Newman Eyeing Another Career-Building Daytona 500 Victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2011) — When asked if winning the Daytona 500 is a career-changing experience, Ryan Newman answers without hesitation.

“Obviously it’s a big career builder and resume builder,” said Newman, winner of the 50th anniversary Daytona 500 in 2008. “It changed my life because I have the trophy, the check and the notoriety to go along with it. But I think it’s the impression that people have of you as a Daytona 500 champion that changes your life more so.”

Newman, driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet, would like nothing better than to enhance his resume on Sunday with another victory in the Great American Race.

“I want to drive the Soldiers’ car to victory lane,” stated Newman. “That’s our goal and what better way to salute our Army Strong Soldiers than with the Daytona 500 trophy.”

Newman and the No. 39 team, led by crew chief and Daytona Beach native Tony Gibson, have gotten off to a strong start in the early portion of Daytona 500 Speedweeks with an impressive third-place finish in Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout and posting the seventh-fastest speed in Sunday’s Pole Day qualifying.

“I feel we have a car and a team that can improve upon what we’ve already accomplished at Daytona,” noted the 33-year-old Newman. “We have the Duel race (on Thursday) and three days of practices to get our Chevrolet ready for the 500. There’s plenty of speculation about the two-car draft and the recent rule change by NASCAR, but we just have to wait and see how it all shakes out and make whatever adjustments that will be needed. It appears we have an interesting week ahead of us.”

There’s another reason that Newman is feeling upbeat and that’s how the U.S. Army/Stewart-Haas Racing team finished the 2010 Sprint Cup season.

“Well for the first time in a couple of years we had a good ending to the season,” explained Newman, a 14-time Cup winner. “Our last ten races (in 2010) were strong. They weren’t perfect but they were strong. That was the highlight of our season last year so coming off that and having some momentum mentally and physically are big for our team. I look forward to starting the season a little more than I did this time last year which is based off that performance.”

The last two races of 2010 saw Newman finish runner-up in Phoenix and seventh at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Also, eight of his 14 top 10s in 2010 came in the final 13 races.

“The last two years we didn’t get off to a good start and we need to change that,” said Newman, who had finishes of 36th and 34th in the past two Daytona 500s. “There’s so many things you can’t control at the superspeedways, but we know we can be good at what we can control.”   After two practice sessions on Wednesday, Newman will be back in race mode for Thursday’s first qualifying race at the 2.5-mile tri-oval (SPEED, 2 p.m. ET). He will start third in the 150-miler. The Duel races will determine the 43-car starting lineup for Sunday’s Daytona 500 (FOX, 1 p.m. ET).     Newman’s Daytona 500 Results              St    Fn  2002    23     7 2003    37    43 2004    20    31 2005     9     20 2006    18     3 2007    16    38 2008     7      1 2009    36    36     2010    17    34     No. 39 Over-the-Wall Crew (city is hometown) Front-tire changer:      Scott Brzozowski, Sterling Heights, Mich. Maryeve Dufault And Tony Marks Racing ARCA Racing Series Debut At Daytona Includes a List of Many ‘Firsts’

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (February 15, 2011) – Maryeve Dufault and Tony Marks Racing (TMR) made their first ever ARCA series debut this weekend in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at the “World Center of Racing” in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The weekend started out solid for Dufault and her TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge team, by qualifying a respectable 24th position on the grid for the Saturday season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway ahead of nine-time series champion, Frank Kimmel.

“There were a lot of pressures coming into this race, not having points, and my first ARCA stock car event, but TMR put together a great car, and we made it into the race”, said Dufault.  “I’m just very happy to be a part of this organization and the opportunity to race at Daytona.” Saturday, before the 200 mile event, TMR unveiled a season long sponsorship commitment from VR-12 Cooling Systems.  The two combined, along with driver Dufault, made quite a stir amongst fans, the media, and in the ARCA garage at Daytona this past weekend and they assuredly will carry that momentum with them all season long.

During the main event for Saturday, Dufault piloted the No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger in the first laps up thru the field moving into the 17th slot. The second caution of the 80 lap event came out and Dufault came in for first pit stop of the race and got hung up on pit road trying to avoid another teams’ mishap.  This cost the TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge team a few spots on the grid, but Dufault stayed focused in the draft and made every move with precision.

About half way thru, veteran NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) spotter, Mike Calinoff came across the radio to compliment Dufault.

“I just want to say you are doing a great job”, said an encouraged Calinoff. “You’re doing what you need to do by just there staying in line.  We’re just going to stay smart, get some laps and finish the race.” Dufault was able to turn a few more laps at full speed before an on track mêlée caught up to her just 16 laps from the finish. Another driver overreacted to the on track action and drove his machine down into the right side of the No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger.

Upon exiting the litter of race cars in turns three and four, Dufault brought her Tony Marks-owned entry to pit road where damage from the exhaust and the front-end alignment forced the No. 12 to the garage and ultimately done for the afternoon.

After climbing out of the car, a very disappointed Dufault had some comments about her first encounter with “the big one”. “I thought I had missed it all until I got hit”, said a disappointed Dufault.  “Then I was looking and there were cars going everywhere. I tried to get to the grass but it all happened so fast. It stinks.”

After reflecting on the day’s events and her first ARCA series Daytona superspeedway debut, Dufault had some very positive remarks to describe her experience. “Today was a great start for the TMR VR-12 Dodge Charger team.  They did a really great job putting the car together.  I was having a blast out there; so much fun”, said Dufault.  “I couldn’t be more thankful for having done all those laps out there.  It was unfortunate about the accident but I tried to do my best.  I got a lot of experience and we’ll just carry it on to Talladega”, said a positive Dufault.

She continued to reflect about her on track involvement at Daytona. “It was fast out there with all those cars and with the movement of the car”, explained Dufault.  “I thought it was really exciting to draft and of course the pit road situation was a first for me, a lot of smoke, a lot of numbers, it was a little overwhelming, but we got it right the second time.” A very humble Dufault graded her performance on a scale from one to 10 as a “seven.”    “A seven maybe”, she said laughing.  “I don’t know, a 10 maybe, but I have so much to learn I can’t give myself a 10, that would be too proud of myself.” The TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger finished 28th out of a 43 car field Saturday at the drop of the checkered flag for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

During the down time between season superspeedway openers, Dufault and the TMR team will be moving their headquarters from Napoleon, Ohio to Race City USA, Mooresville, North Carolina.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will take nearly an eight week pause before action resumes at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Friday, April 15th, 2011 live on SPEED.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The stars of “TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon”– Josh Duhamel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and director Michael Bay – will serve as the Grand Marshals for 53rd running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, airing at 12 p.m. ET on FOX.  As Grand Marshals, the TRANSFORMERS cast will deliver the four most famous words in motorsports – “Gentlemen, start your engines.”

In addition, the modified NASCAR stock cars featured in the movie will make their first public appearance by leading the 43-car field during the pace laps of “The Great American Race,” the kick-off event to the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

The Daytona 500 will not be Bay or TRANSFORMERS’ first introduction to the NASCAR world.  In 2009, Bay piloted the official pace car at a NASCAR Sprint Cup race to promote the DVD release of “TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen.”  NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman also took part, racing with branded images of opposing AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS on their cars and uniforms.  Bay credits his vision to include NASCAR stock cars in the new TRANSFORMERS film to this experience.

“We’re honored to have the stars and director from this blockbuster film franchise   “TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon” serve as Grand Marshals of ‘The Great American Race,’” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said.

“As an added bonus for our fans, three cars from the movie will be on location during Speedweeks and we all look forward to watching them lead the field for the 53rd running of the Daytona 500 on the newly paved racing surface.”

In the days leading up to the Daytona 500, race fans can view the TRANSFORMERS NASCAR stock cars at the Chevy Display located in the Midway outside Turn 4.

Tickets for Speedweeks 2011 events, including the 53rd annual Daytona 500, are available online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.   Fans can stay connected with Daytona International Speedway on Twitter (www.twitter.com/disupdates) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/DaytonaInternationalSpeedway)

R3 Motorsports Goes Wild For A Good Reason At Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (February 15, 2011) – -In a top deal announced today, Sponsormonsters and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) have agreed to a three-year partnership with full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series team R3 Motorsports and driver Robert Richardson Jr. beginning with Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Boasting a defying paint scheme, designed by the legendary NASCAR artist Sam Bass, the No. 23 Dodge Challenger will display a tiger, an elephant, a penguin, a dolphin and a turtle along with the Wildlife Conservation Society logo. R3 Motorsports, Sponsormonsters and WCS will use this partnership to bring further awareness to the need to save wildlife and wild places around the globe.    Today, WCS protects many of the world’s iconic creatures here and abroad, including gorillas in the Congo, tigers in India, wolverines in the Yellowstone Rockies, and ocean giants in our world’s amazing seascapes.   Through their NASCAR partnership with R3 Motorsports and rising star Richardson Jr., both entities are hoping to reach new levels of exposure of, and more importantly support for, the WCS mission from NASCAR’s impressive fan base.   “We’re very proud and excited by this partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society,” said Robert Richardson Jr., who will drive the WCS Dodge Challengers in 2011. “I undoubtedly believe we have one of the coolest looking cars on the track heading into race day. This partnership with WCS is important to me because I’m an activist for exactly what they stand for. Everyone better bet that we’re going to make this partnership work and bring further awareness while we rally support from those inside and outside the NASCAR community.”

Robert Boston, President of Sponsormonsters, commented on the announcement. “We are concerned about many issues facing society,” he said.  “If we can help to ensure that at least one charity can truly benefit from our race program, then we have helped to fulfill our social obligation to make a positive impact on society.  We are truly honored to be a part of this campaign.”   “At WCS, we know NASCAR is one of the most attended and watched sports in the United States,” said Bertina Ceccarelli, WCS Executive Vice President of Global Resources. “We are grateful to Sponsormonsters,R3 Motorsports and Robert Richardson Jr. for giving WCS an opportunity to be introduced to the greatest fans in America.”   Richardson, a McKinney, Texas native offered his thoughts on the Nationwide Series’ season-opener. “We’re really optimistic. I think we’re going to have a good Dodge Challenger. The R3 Motorsports team has really done a great job preparing our fleet during the off-season. Our biggest momentum on Saturday will be giving the Wildlife Conservation Society folks and all of their supporters a run that can step our season into the right direction. It’s just an honor to have them as part of this team and I’m hoping a good finish in Daytona will only help our partnership grow even more!”

Artist Bass, a long-time fixture in the NASCAR community offered his sentiments on being involved with such an inspirational project. “I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to create the colorful design for the Wildlife Conservation Society race car,” said Bass. “It is an exciting program that will bring much needed awareness to the struggles of wildlife all over the world. Putting these beautiful animals on a car the NASCAR fans will cheer on and support is so personally meaningful to me. I am elated that the WCS has decided to come into NASCAR and am honored that they chose my work to be a part of their efforts.”   Robert Richardson Jr. will make his 70th career NNS start and ninth overall at DIS and will also be guaranteed a starting position in his No. 23 Wildlife Conservation Society Dodge Challenger when the green flag waives in Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 (120 laps / 300 miles) at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The event is scheduled for a liftoff shortly after 1:00 p.m. Eastern on February 19th with live coverage on ESPN2, MRN Radio and Sirius XM Satellite Radio (Channel 128).

For further information and to join WCS’s mission, please logon to their website at WCS.org.   About WCS:   Founded in 1895, the Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild places worldwide. They do so through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together these activities change attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in harmony. WCS is committed to its platform, because it is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.
