  • Bodine’s 2010 Season Stats include 4 wins, 2 poles, 16 top-fives and 19 top-tens

Mooresville, N.C. (November 16, 2010) – As the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series steers toward Miami, Florida, Germain Racing has a unique ‘advantage’ heading into the 2010 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Todd Bodine has already been crowned the 2010 Truck Series champion; he’s the third driver in series history to earn the title before the season’s final race. The 2010 Champions are heading to Homestead with only one thing on their mind—win number three at the Miami track.

“We can take a deep breath and go race to win. We don’t have to watch the computer every lap. We can race to win, which is what we like to do. We want to cap off the season with the Germain.com Tundra in victory lane because that’s the best way we can thank everyone who’s poured their heart and soul into this 30 team this year,” said crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. “We go to the track every week to win, We can go race to win 100% this week. No points racing. We’re the 2010 champions—and it feels great.”

The driver of the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra, Bodine agrees that going to Homestead this time around feels different.

“It’s nice to come to Homestead and not have to worry. The last time we ran for the championship, we had to race Johnny Benson at Homestead and it wasn’t quite as enjoyable at the time. It was pretty nerve-racking. To be able to come down here and enjoy it, the success this No. 30 Germain.com Tundra team has had this year, it means a lot,” said Bodine, who is now the third Truck Series champ with multiple titles (2006, 2010).

Bodine attributes his early clinch of this year’s series championship to the consistency and hard work from the Germain Racing team that fields the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra each week.

“Germain Racing has done such a great job. All the guys at the shop and Triad and the guys on the road crew. Mike Hillman Jr. has led this team to another championship. It shows his leadership skills and it shows how good a person he is.  We have a never give up attitude — that’s what brought us to this point and got us here. We never give up.  We’ve been down and we’ve been laps down and come back and win races.  We don’t give up and I’m proud to be the guy that drives this Toyota Tundra for a great race team,” explained Bodine after he clinched the championship in Phoenix.

Mike Hillman Jr. explains that this championship has a different meaning for him and the members of his team.

“Your first one’s always special. It’s really awesome. But, to keep the core group of people together for five years like we have done here at Germain Racing, and to be able to keep our performance level up…This 30 Tundra team has won at least two races each season, we’ve stayed in the top-five in points. To get another championship, it just proves the never give up attitude of Germain Racing is what it’s all about,” explained Hillman.

Bodine is strapping into racing chassis TRD-131 for Friday’s season finale. The truck hasn’t finished outside the top-5 in any of its 11 races. This Toyota has earned three of the team’s four wins this year and two pole awards. Watch Bodine in the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra on Friday, November 19th, at Homestead-Miami Speedway. SPEED will cover Truck Series practice on Friday at 5 PM ET, and live racing at 7:30.

Greg Biffle Homestead Notes

Biffle on Homestead: “We’re taking the same car to Homestead that we led with at Texas and won with at Pocono. We’ve had some success at Homestead obviously and it would be great to end another season with a win there.  We had some extreme highs and lows during this Chase but the highs are encouraging for next season.  We know that we can compete for wins now as long as we don’t have part failures.  We are still working on our short track program but I think we’re moving in the right direction. We’ll just go to Homestead this weekend and do everything we can to finish this season with a win.” Erwin on Homestead: “Biffle has an incredible record at Homestead with his three wins in a row so we know he can get it done if we can give him a fast racecar.  Just like most every other week this year, we need to qualify up front and stay there with good pit stops.  If we can do that, the rest will be up to Biffle and we should be able to compete for the win.  We had one get away from us in Texas and it would be great to end the 2010 season with another trip to victory lane.”     Homestead Notes

  • •   Biffle and the 3M team moved up to eighth in the standings following their fourth-place finish in Phoenix; They are 349 points behind point leader Denny Hamlin and only 38 points out of fifth.
  • •  Biffle’s average finish at Homestead is 13.5 from an average starting position of 16.1.
  • •  Biffle finished three seasons in a row (2004, 2005 and 2006) with wins at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
  • •  Last year at Homestead Biffle fought a loose racecar and finished 14th after starting eighth.
  • •  The car that Greg is racing this weekend at Homestead is the same car he won with at Pocono and led 224 laps with two weeks ago in Texas.

Quotes from ESPN NASCAR Analysts on NASCAR Sprint Cup Finale

NASCAR’s 36-race season comes to a close in South Florida this weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 21. ESPN will have a live telecast of the final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at 1 p.m. ET as the close championship battle involving Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick is decided.

On two episodes of NASCAR Now, ESPN2’s daily NASCAR news and information program, following the most recent race at Phoenix, ESPN analysts and former NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Dale Jarrett and Ricky Craven discussed the championship battle and the chances of all three drivers, who are separated by just 46 points.

How does Denny Hamlin recover from what happened at Phoenix?

Dale Jarrett – “It’s easy to get down but I think there’s two things you have to look at. If you would have told Denny Hamlin, Mike Ford and Joe Gibbs at the beginning of the Chase they could have a 15-point lead, not have to run the first nine races, and just run Homestead, they would have said we’ll take it because they said they were going to outrun them. And that name Joe Gibbs that I mentioned, that’s how they get over this. He is a great motivator; he knows how to get the most out of people. Turn disappointing things into very positive things. He’ll have these guys ready when they get to Homestead.”

Ricky Craven – “The extent that Denny Hamlin and Mike Ford can put this in their rearview mirror will determine their fate, and if they win their first title. They’ve got to focus on the positives. What are those? You’re still leading the point standings and there’s only one race left. You go to Homestead, the race that you won last year, with maybe the car that you won the mile-and-a-half race at Texas, some similarities, you have a chance to close this thing out. You have that 15-point lead, which was a by-product, by the way, of leading the most laps at Phoenix. You’ve got to think about the positives, there are a lot for the 11 team, and get over all the negatives.”

On the relationship between Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus –

Dale Jarrett – “I think there’s one thing that you have to understand from the driver’s side of it – you know that a lot of times that crew chief can be hard on you, and to the outside world it may seem a little bit harsh at times, but Jimmie appreciates it, he understands where Chad is coming from, and the other side of it is, you know that if you didn’t have that crew chief, that guy driving you all the time, then you probably wouldn’t have those championships and wins.”

How important is their experience as four-time champion?

Dale Jarrett – “Invaluable. Nobody else can boast that and say they have that. Harvick has Nationwide championships, Denny Hamlin doesn’t have any in the NASCAR series yet, but if that’s what was going to win it, they (Johnson) would win Sunday hands-down. And they may well do that. They know what they have to do and it’s right there in front of them. I think there’s a little more to it, but the experience side of it, they have everything that it takes in that respect.”

What does Kevin Harvick have to do Sunday?

Ricky Craven – “What I think is interesting is that we haven’t seen the very best from Kevin Harvick, but we’re going to. I’m absolutely convinced of that. This is his best track, roughly an 8th place average, and if he can take the lead early, and make it very clear to Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin, ‘look, don’t forget about me,’ it changes the whole dynamic of this thing. Now you’ve got three guys worried about two other guys. Kevin has just been hanging on throughout the Chase. So I think he’s battle-tested. These other two guys, they might be in a little different situation than this. It’s a misconception if you think any of these guys are playing defense. With one race to go, they have to play offense. They really have to go at this like they’ve got to win the race, because if they don’t, they don’t control their own destiny.”

How should Denny Hamlin approach this?

Ricky Craven – “The same way he has the last four races. If he’s going to win this title, he has to take it from Jimmie Johnson and the 48. He’s going to have to do that with authority. He’s displayed that at Martinsville, Texas, even at Phoenix before he ran out of gas, and that’s how he has to approach it.”

Dale Jarrett – “He’s had the fastest race car in the Chase and I think that will serve him well at Homestead this weekend. He’s got to go there and get the job done. You know that it’s right there in front of you – you know what you have to do – stay in front of the 48 and 29.”

How does Jimmie Johnson approach this?

Ricky Craven – “He’ll be better this year (at Homestead) than he’s ever been before because it’s very disruptive to go into this type of racetrack and these circumstances and have to play defense. It doesn’t allow you be as aggressive with the racetrack as you’d ordinarily be. Now, he can run the high line, he can take some chances on corner exits, you have to transition there because it’s a progressive-banked racetrack. These guys will shift their positions to different lanes throughout the day. He’ll be better because of it. I just feel like Jimmie Johnson has been in this situation, almost every scenario in the last four years. So why isn’t he still the favorite?”

Dale Jarrett – “He knows going in if he can lead the most laps, win the race, then the championship is his, regardless of what else happens. That will be his mindset.”

Verizon Team News and Notes

· This Week’s Verizon Dodge … Justin Allgaier will pilot Penske Racing chassis PRS-007 in Saturday afternoon’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is the same Verizon Dodge that Allgaier scored his first NASCAR victory with at Bristol Motor Speedway in March. The 2009 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year then raced it at Kentucky Speedway in June, where he started third and finished eighth, at BMS in August, where the Riverton, Ill.-native started fourth and finished 33rd after being involved in an incident that eliminated him from contention after 186 of 250 laps, and most recently at Auto Club Speedway in October, where he started 11th and finished eighth.

· Allgaier at Homestead … In two previous NNS starts at HMS, Allgaier has recorded one top-20 finish and has completed 97.8 percent of the laps contested (391 of 400). Additionally, the 24-year-old driver has an average starting position of 23rd and an average finish of 24th.

One Race Remaining … With 34 of 35 races of the 2010 season in the record books, Allgaier has accumulated two poles, one win, eight top-five and 20 top-10 finishes, an average starting position of 11.7 and an average finish of 11.5. Allgaier has led 221 laps of competition and has completed 97.6 percent of the laps contested (6,141 of 6,289) so far this season.

End of an Era … The season-ending 300-miler will mark the end of an era as Allgaier makes his final start for Penske Racing, and team sponsor Verizon makes its final appearance on the No. 12 NNS entry. Over the course of their two-year relationship, Allgaier, Verizon and Penske Racing accumulated three poles, one win, 11 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes in 69 races.

Get to the Points … Allgaier ranks fourth in the NNS championship point standings heading into this weekend’s event at HMS. He trails current point leader and Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski by 930 points, and third-place contender Kyle Busch by 195 points.

Best in Class … Allgaier’s fourth-place position in the point standings is best among full-time, Nationwide Series-only drivers. Allgaier leads fellow Nationwide-only driver Trevor Bayne, currently ranked eighth, by 658 points.

Penske Racing at Homestead … In six previous NNS starts at HMS, Penske Racing entries have recorded one win (Ryan Newman, November, 2005), one top-five and two top-10 finishes along with one pole award. Penske Dodges have been atop the leaderboard for 67 circuits in their time at Homestead, and have completed 924 of 1,200 laps contested.

Penske Racing in 2010 … With one race remaining in the 2010 season, Penske Racing’s two NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have recorded seven poles, seven wins, a combined 33 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes. Penske Dodges have completed 12,429 of 12,578 laps contested, and have been atop the leaderboard for 1,368 laps with drivers Allgaier and Keselowski.

· Meet the Driver … Fans can meet Allgaier on Thursday, November 18 from 6 – 7 p.m. EST at the Verizon Wireless store located at 13623 S. Dixie Hwy. in Miami, Fla. On Saturday, November 20, he will sign for fans at the Penske Racing souvenir trailer, located in the midway at HMS from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Justin Allgaier on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“Racing at Homestead is a lot of fun. You can race three-and-four wide in the corners, but everyone has to funnel in line when you get to the straightaways. For the most part, it’s an action-packed race. It’s a cool weekend because everyone knows that’s their last chance to win for the year. This year will be even more interesting given the fact that it will be the last race for the current Nationwide Series cars. Everyone pushes just a little harder in that race, because the finish you leave Homestead with can do more for you, or more to hurt you heading into the off season. So, leaving Homestead with a good finish is extremely important as it sets the tone for the teams as they get ready for 2011.”

Crew chief Chad Walter on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“I’m looking forward to a strong run to close out the season with Justin in Miami. We have made significant progress in our intermediate program this year, and we hope to finish strong with the last race of the current Nationwide Series car. To be able to give Justin a win would be a terrific parting gift. To do that, we’ll have to beat the No. 18 team and Kyle Busch, who will be the odds-on favorite this weekend. It would mean a lot to us to be able to accomplish that, knowing how successful that team has been all year long.”

MIAMI STILL THE ONE FOR GORDON

HOMESTEAD, FLA. (November 16, 2010) – Jeff Gordon may not be one of the three drivers battling in the closest-ever “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup” but he can make history of his own in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday.

In 18 full seasons in NASCAR’s top division, Gordon has collected 82 wins on 23 tracks – including 21 of the 22 facilities currently on the schedule.

The only Victory Lane visit that has eluded the driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet is Homestead-Miami Speedway – site of the Ford 400.

“We’ve had some good runs here in the past, we just haven’t been able to get that win,” said Gordon, who is sixth in the point standings. “We want to get that win because winning is what drives us. We’re not trying to win because of a statistic, although it would be pretty cool to have won at every track.”

While he has not won in 11 starts here, his five top-fives and nine top-10 finishes are tops at the South Florida track. “Homestead is a fun, fast race track,” said Gordon, who has yet to win poles here, at Las Vegas and at Kansas.

“It has big, sweeping corners but, because of the South Florida summers, the track seems to lose more and more grip. The groove seems to widen out and move up to the top of the race track.

“It creates very challenging situations because it’s very fast but the grip’s not fantastic. The grip goes away pretty fast from new tires, so getting the balance right is very challenging.”

All eyes – including Gordon’s – will be on the tight, three-way battle for the title. He may give the championship contenders some extra room during the race, but not if victory is on the line.

“You don’t want to be the guy that costs somebody the championship because you did something dumb racing for 10th place,” said Gordon.

“But I think those guys also have to recognize that you’re trying to win the race. “If it’s for any place other than a race win, I’m probably going to give them a little bit of extra room knowing there is a championship on the line.

“But if we’re battling for a win, I don’t care who it is. I’m going to race them hard just like I would any other weekend to try to win the race.”

HAMLIN HOLDS LEAD: Camry driver Denny Hamlin remains the leader in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Chase championship point standings following Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway. The 29 -year-old Chesterfield, Va.-native led the most laps (190 of 312) at the one- mile Arizona oval. Hamlin has three top-three finishes in five starts at Homestead. Last November, Kyle Busch also recorded a top-10 finish at Homestead with an eighth-place result.

LOGANO LOOKING GOOD: Camry driver Joey Logano earned a pair of third-place results at Phoenix. Logano was the highest- finishing Toyota driver in the NSCS race with a third-place effort. Logano has finished seventh (Charlotte), sixth (Martinsville), fifth (Talladega), fourth (Texas) and most recently third at Phoenix. In Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix, Logano started from the pole and led 23 (of 200) laps en route to a third-place finish — his 23rd top-10 in 24 series starts this year.

BODINE CLINCHES TRUCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Todd Bodine earned his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver’s championship Friday in Phoenix. Bodine finished 12th to take a 202-point lead over second-place Aric Almirola in the point standings after Phoenix — 195 points are the maximum available at this weekend’s race at Homestead. Tundra drivers Almirola (fifth), Mike Skinner (sixth), David Starr (eighth) and Justin Lofton (ninth) also earned top-10 results at Phoenix.

The 36-year-old Escalon, Calif., native previously won the NKNPSW championship in 2006 and 2008. Holmes joins two-time defending NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) champion Ryan Truex to become the first Camry drivers to sweep the NASCAR regional series titles in the same season since Toyota joined each series in 2007.

AND THE WINNER IS…: The Toyota ‘Sponsafier 2’ contest-winner was unveiled at Phoenix and the car design called ‘Lou Gehrig aka ALS’ was the grand prize winner. The design, created by Jeff Hallowell of Maize, Kan., beat out more than 52,000 entries. Jason Leffler hopes to leave Homestead-Maimi Speedway seventh in the 2010 championship driver standings

JASON LEFFLER QUICK FACTS

No. 10 ABF Toyota Camry

Homestead-Miami Speedway

Ford 300

November 20, 2010

· Leffler back behind the wheel of the No. 10 ABF Toyota Camry… In the 2010 season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) this weekend, Leffler will pilot Turner Motorsports’ No. 10 entry. During the 2010 season, Leffler has spent time behind the wheel of the No. 10 for eight races and the No. 38 for the balance of the full NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) schedule.

· Leffler looking to finish the seventh in the driver championship point standings…. Going into the NNS race last weekend at Phoenix, Leffler was sitting eighth in the driver point standings and had the potential to take over seventh. Unfortunately, an engine failure cut his day short and, as a result, he dropped two spots in the standings to 10th. With a strong finish this weekend at HMS, Leffler could potentially work his way back up to finish the year in the seventh-place, of which he is currently 80 points behind.

· Leffler lucky in the No. 10… Leffler has certainly had an up and down season in 2010, but his luck seems to turn positive when he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 10 Toyota. In seven races behind the wheel of the No. 10, he has claimed three top-five and six top-10 finishes.

· Leffler a solid contender at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS)… In seven NNS starts at the 1.5-mile oval, Leffler has a pair of fourth-place finishes (2003 and 2008) and has finished outside of top-20 on only one occasion. He has an average start of 17.3 and an average finish of 14.0 with zero DNF’s.

· Leffler and Turner Motorsports teammate, Reed Sorenson, to participate in the NASCAR Championship Drive! Leffler and Sorenson will participate in driver Q&A and sign autographs for fans on Thursday, November 18 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. ET. The two-day fan festival will take place in Miami’s South Beach. Leffler on the 2010 racing season

“Well, this has definitely been a rocky season. It’s been so frustrating because so many things have happened out of our control. Mechanical failures have really been an issue for us this year and that’s hard to take when everyone works so hard throughout the week and the weekend to get these cars ready to race. I just can’t thank our sponsors, especially Great Clips and ABF Freight, enough for sticking with us through thick and thin. They have been such a great supporters of us over the years and I am so proud to represent them both on and off the track for the last five years.

Looking ahead, I can honestly say I only see great things for Turner Motorsports. Steve Turner is a racer at heart and is doing everything that needs to be done to ensure that we will come out of the box in Daytona, battling for wins each and every week. We have already turned our focus to 2011, have re-established our goals and are starting to work towards achieving those goals. When we hit the track in 2011, we will be ready to contend for the championship.”

QUOTES

Carl Edwards on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“Ford Championship weekend has always been a huge weekend for me and Roush Fenway. We’ve got a ton of momentum right now. I feel like our 1.5-mile program is really strong, and our team is riding a huge wave from last weekend’s win in Phoenix. We can’t lose at Homestead because no matter what happens we all feel like we finished the season strong. We’re just going to go for the win and hopefully finish top four in points. That would be huge.”

Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“It was great to finally get a win at Phoenix last weekend. Now we can go to Homestead and try for another win, and maintain our fourth place in the points. Carl has a great record at Homestead and won there in 2008. We are taking our newest car in the fleet which we ran at Charlotte so I feel it will be good. We’ve got a lot of momentum going into the final race of the season so we’d love to end the year with one more win.”

QUOTES

Carl Edwards on racing at Miami Homestead Speedway:

“Were going for three in a row in Homestead, three back-to-back wins is what we need for Copart. We had an amazing car at Texas and we are taking the same car this weekend. That car is so fast and it was a huge confidence builder for our Nationwide team to be able to beat the best teams in the sport on a 1.5 mile track. That is something that we haven’t done since 2008. Homestead is a track that we’ve been looking forward to since victory lane in Texas.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Miami Homestead Speedway:

“We are taking our Copart.com Ford Fusion to Homestead to win three in a row. We have been perfect during the past two weeks and winning is our sole purpose. Carl is running the same car that we ran in Texas and the entire No. 60 team looks to finish the season out strong.”
