I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

Don’t Chance It.  Check It: June is Garage Safety Month and Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) team partner, LiftMaster®, encourages fans to support the Celebrate Summer Safely, “Don’t Chance It. Check It” campaign during the month of June.  As part of the LiftMaster® commitment to safety they will make a donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), a minimum amount of $10,000 will be donated.  If Jamie McMurray wins one of the five NSCS races in June, LiftMaster® will add an additional $2,000 per victory to the NFFF.

Something Borrowed: Pocono Raceway features one of the most unique track configurations on the NASCAR circuit.  Each of the three sharp corners at the tri-oval is modeled after a turn from other tracks.  Turn One is modeled after the now defunct Trenton Speedway, the banking in Turn Two resembles that of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Turn Three banking is modeled after The Milwaukee Mile.  In addition to three low-banked, sharp turns on the track, Pocono Raceway is made even more difficult due to the fact that none of the three turns are identical, nor are any of the three straights identical in length.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR POCONO RACEWAY

Jamie McMurray and the No. 1 Cushman Team

Dover Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) headed to the high-banked concrete oval at Dover International Speedway (Dover), nicknamed The Monster Mile, for the first race in the month of June.  The No. 1 Cessna team looked to carry momentum from at top-five finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway, however Jamie McMurray would have to overcome a setback with front-end damage to the No. 1 Chevy, to rally for a 13th place finish.

Pocono Stats: Jamie McMurray will make his 23rd career NSCS start at Pocono Raceway this weekend.  In his previous 22 starts he has led 21 laps and has completed 3984 of 4092 (97.4%) laps of competition.  He also has an average start of 16.9 and average finish of 20.8, and has four top-10 finishes at the track dubbed “The Tricky Triangle”.  McMurray has one pole and a best finish of ninth place on two occasions (June 2004 and August 2008).

Utility Player: The hood on the No. 1 Chevy SS driven by Jamie McMurray will feature the Textron Inc. brand of Cushman this weekend at Pocono Raceway.  Cushman commercial and utility vehicles are known around the world for versatility, durability and dependability.  Cushman offers the broadest line of utility vehicles on the market.  Cushman vehicles are manufactured in Augusta, Ga., in a 650,000-square-foot plant recently honored as one of the top 10 manufacturing facilities in North America by IndustryWeek magazine. The company continues to build on its reputation for delivering quality, heavy-duty industrial material carriers and comfortable, personnel transport vehicles.

Kid Time: Jamie McMurray will join fellow NSCS driver Clint Bowyer on Saturday morning to visit Pocono’s seventh annual Bowlopolis Kids Day on Saturday, June 7.  Bowlopolis Kids Day is a free event for all to enjoy, McMurray and Bowyer will participate in a kid-focused question-and-answer session in the Chalet Village located behind the grandstands near Gate 8.  For more info please visit www.poconoraceway.com.kidsday

Kyle Larson and the No. 42 Target Team

Dover Recap: Team Target’s penchant for bringing fast cars to the track continued this weekend at Dover International Speedway (Dover).  Kyle Larson’s Cottonelle Chevrolet SS looked good from the first practice session at the Monster Mile, and those speeds helped him secure a starting position of fifth during Friday’s two-round qualifying session.  Unfortunately, Larson had to start at the rear of the field after the team was forced to replace the engine following the final practice session.  When the green flag was dropped on Sunday, it took Larson much of the first half of the race to fight his way through the field and into the top-10, but once there he continued to drive hard during the second half to finish the race in 11th place.

Larson at Pocono: This weekend will be the first time Larson has raced at Pocono Raceway.  Pocono, known as “The Tricky Triangle” is one of the few tracks on the NASCAR circuit at which Larson has not raced in any of the sports touring series, but he has logged laps at the track this season during testing.

Doubling Down: Larson, who is no stranger to running multiple races in one weekend, will be doing double-duty this weekend when he races in the Pocono 200 in the ARCA Racing Series, Larson will drive the No. 4 Cartwheel by Target Chevrolet Impala.  The 80 lap, 200 mile race will give Larson a chance to gain racing experience at “The Tricky Triangle” prior to Sunday’s NSCS Pocono 400.  This will be his third time racing in an ARCA car.  Larson raced at Michigan in 2012 and at Daytona in 2013, where he finished second.  He will be the only NSCS driver entered into the race.

A Look Inside: Viewers this weekend will have a chance to get up close and personal with Kyle Larson during the race.  As TNT kicks off their coverage of NASCAR this weekend at Pocono, Larson will have a Goodyear in-car camera onboard his No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS.  Be sure to tune into the race and watch Larson maneuver the Tricky Triangle from the driver’s seat.

A Shopping Bullseye:  If you have made it to the race only to find out you’ve forgotten to pack a few necessities, there’s no need to worry.  For all your last minute needs and forgotten items, Target has all of the essentials and more.  Target is located at 155 Pocono Commons, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360 and can be reached at (570) 426-1050.  Call ahead and make sure they have what you need.
