Truex Jr.’s Darlington Car to Promote National Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Earnhardt Jr., Danica, Kahne, Newman, also taking part in ovarian cancer fundraising

DENVER, Colo. (Sept. 1, 2015) – With September designated as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Martin Truex Jr.’s Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet will showcase a teal appearance for Sunday night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The teal look, which is the official ribbon color for ovarian cancer awareness, will be displayed on the hood, roof, quarter panels and rear bumper (TV panel) of Truex’s No. 78 race car. Truex’s steering wheel and gloves will also have a teal appearance.

Thanks to the spirited volunteer work of Truex’s girlfriend Sherry Pollex, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer more than a year ago, a number of Sprint Cup Series drivers will also be involved in the fundraising effort to help raise awareness, advocacy and research for ovarian cancer during the Darlington race weekend.

Danica Patrick will have a teal-accented steering wheel in her No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet. She will also wear the teal-accented race gloves as will Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne.

With support from the NASCAR Foundation, Truex’s and Patrick’s teal-inspired steering wheels and the teal gloves worn by Truex, Patrick, Kahne and Newman will be autographed and auctioned off at nascarfoundation.org/go-teal

Earnhardt’s gloves will be auctioned off as part of his   Driven To Give campaign to benefit Teal Diva, an ovarian cancer awareness charity out of Charlotte. He will be wearing the teal gloves at all the September Sprint Cup races.

NASCAR has also approved the teal ribbon to be placed on the Sprint Cup Series race cars.

“It is an honor to have our No. 78 race car help kick off National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month,” said Joe Garone, general manager of Furniture Row Racing. “Sherry’s (Pollex) strength along with her all-out dedication to helping others is an inspiration to everyone associated with our race team.”

The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance will have the Teal Appeal display booth at Darlington Raceway, passing out literature for ovarian cancer symptoms and selling the $4 NEVER GIVE UP wristbands, designed by Pollex and Truex, with proceeds going to ovarian cancer awareness and research.
