Burton Looking Ahead to Phoenix, Continue Points Gains

No. 43 J. Streicher Team Sits 10th in Championship Points Standings after First Three Races

Coming off of a solid finish in Atlanta, Burton and the No. 43 J. Streicher Team battled a tough race car in Las Vegas, finishing in the 17th position but earning him enough points to move into the Top-10 in the championship point standings. Burton will look to build off of that momentum this weekend in his first short track race in the XFINITY Series this season. NASCAR continues to go west, as the team will head to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend, a track where Burton has yet to find success.

Throughout Burton’s NASCAR career, he has just four starts at the one-mile oval, none of those coming in the XFINITY Series. In his first start at Phoenix in the Camping World Truck Series in 2013, Burton finished 11th.

“Heading into Phoenix, I feel we’ll be better than we were last week. We’re taking a totally different race car and different package, since this is the first short track of the season. I’m looking forward to getting there and trying to run back in the Top-10 and keep gaining points in the championship standings. Every week we keep gaining points and we want to build off of that momentum heading into the race weekend. In Phoenix, you really have to work with the car, you can’t overdrive it. You need the car to turn well. I feel like this week will be a lot different than last week. We’re hoping to be a lot better this week off the truck so we’re not starting from square one in practice.”
