PROMISING RUN ENDS WITH DISAPPOINTMENT FOR NO. 1 TEAM

Concord, NC (May 29, 2011) – Jamie McMurray started the Coca-Cola 600 from the 35th position and quickly gained positions, making his way all the way to the lead before the halfway mark of the 400 lap race. On lap 182 his hopes soured when the engine of his No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Convoy of Hope Chevrolet let go, relegating him to a 37th place finish.

McMurray finished second in the Coca-Cola 600 in 2010 and was hoping to improve his finish by one position in the longest race on the NSCS schedule. His hopes were lifted when the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Convoy of Hope Chevrolet made its way from the 35th starting position all the way to the lead before the 200 lap point of the 400 lap event.

The No.1 crew made the call for a two-tire stop on lap 172 to gain track position, the team would restart second and McMurray quickly took advantage by taking the lead two laps later. Then, within just a few laps disappointment hit when the motor expired, resulting in a 37th place finish for the team.

“We really had a promising run tonight” stated McMurray. “I am really grateful to Johnny Morris and the folks at Bass Pro Shops for allowing us to have the Convoy of Hope on the car this weekend. I really wanted to have a strong finish for all the people back home in Joplin. My heart has been with them this past week and it would have meant a lot to have a strong finish for them.”

NOTES

. The No. 1 Chevrolet displayed the Convoy of Hope marks in effort to raise awareness for the relief efforts in Jamie McMurray’s hometown of Joplin, Mo.
