No. 30 Monster Energy Chevrolet News and Notes

·         The Goat: Daytona Edition… Ricky Carmichael has no problem finding his way to Daytona International Speedway’s (DIS) famous victory lane. He is the winningest rider in motocross history at the Daytona Beach race course with a total of six overall victories. Carmichael notched his first win in 125cc competition in 1998 and followed that up two years later with his first career win the AMA’s premier class, becoming the first rider to win both a 125cc and 250cc race at Daytona. He went on to record four consecutive Supercross wins (2000-2003), tying Jeff Stanton’s record for the most victories, going on to set the record three years later with a win in 2006. His likeness is even enshrined on hallowed ground – the entrance to Victory Lane.

·         Coming home…DIS is special to Carmichael for several reasons, not the least of which is because it is the Tallahassee-native’s home track. Making it seem even more like home, he has been the architect of the Daytona Supercross track since 2008. Additionally, he hosts his own amateur Supercross race at Daytona along with the Ricky Carmichael University riding school.

·         This week’s Impala… The No. 30 Monster Energy team will hit the track with chassis TMS-111 this weekend at Daytona. This is the same chassis Kasey Kahne raced in the season-opener at Daytona and James Buescher raced at Talladega Superspeedway.

·         NCWTS at DIS…  Though this weekend marks Carmichael’s first Nationwide Series start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, he has three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) starts at DIS with one top-10 finish. He has only started outside of the top-five on one occasion and his best finish of 8th came in the February event in Turner Motorsports’ No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado.

·         Race rewind… Last weekend at Road America, Carmichael made his 2011 Nationwide Series debut. In his first road course race in one of NASCAR’s top-three series, Carmichael brought home his series-best finish of ninth after starting from the 15th position.

·         Turner Motorsports gaining momentum… In 16 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 14 top-five and 35 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship contending drivers are inside the top-five in the driver point standings with Reed Sorenson leading the way, Justin Allgaier in fourth and Jason Leffler in fifth. The No. 32 team is also leading the owner’s point standings.

·         A Goat in the Governor’s mansion… Before hitting the track on Thursday, Carmichael will join a delegation of NASCAR and International Speedway Corporation executives, drivers and racing legends at Florida’s Governor’s mansion, in his hometown of Tallahassee, in celebration of NASCAR’s historical significance in Florida and its economic benefit to the state.  Carmichael will join NASCAR chairman & CEO Brian France, ISC CEO Lesa France Kennedy, NASCAR president Mike Helton and fellow Florida residents Juan Montoya, Brian Vickers and Joe Nemechek. Joey Logano, Trevor Bayne, Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace will also be in attendance.

·         Welcome aboard GATE… GATE will be featured on the lower-rear quarter panels of the No. 30 Monster Energy Impala this weekend at DIS. In 1960, Herbert Hill opened the first GATE service station in Jacksonville, Florida. GATE’s mission is to be the premier convenience store provider in the marketplace today. Their desire is to provide value in the satisfaction to their customers. GATE offers a wider variety of quality services and products by providing the best in convenience and service for their customers all in one location.

·         See the Monster Energy Silverado… The No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado show truck will make a few stops this weekend in the Daytona Beach-area. On Wednesday, June 29th the show truck will be on display at Florida’s Governor’s mansion. On Thursday, June 30th it will be on display at the GATE store No. 1207 – 2350 State Road 16 in St. Augustine, FL – from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday, July 1st it will be on display at the First Coast Energy store No. 1026 – 2355 State Road St. Augustine, FL – from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

·         Catch the race… The Subway Jalapeno 250 will be broadcast live on ESPN and MRN radio affiliates beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 1st. The green flag scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m.

Carmichael Quotes

What would it mean for you to win at Daytona? “I think about it every time I go down there. Personally, I’ve had a lot of success on two wheels at Daytona. I can’t even describe what I would mean to possibly be the first guy to win on two wheels and on four wheels at Daytona. There’s so much history at that race track.  I want to win there and go to Victory Lane so bad. It’s not possible to put into words what that would mean to me.”
