Is your best memory at Martinsville Speedway as a driver or as a fan and what is that memory?

“Most of the memories are driving and not watching necessarily. Your best one is always going to be the one that you win. Those are always the good ones. The not so good ones are always the ones that kind of slip away.”

You know how to get around this track and have had a lot of success here over the years. What do you need out of your Camry tomorrow?

“Keeping the balance good is the key. It’s keeping it where I think it has a good balance of short run to long run. I think that we had that in practice. Hopefully with the changing of track conditions, it’ll be a little bit warmer and we’ll keep that.”

MARTIN TRUEX JR, No. 19 SiriusXM Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Qualifying Position: 9th

What makes Martinsville one of the hardest short tracks on the NASCAR circuit?

“I think a lot of reasons. Long straightaways and tight corners. There’s not a lot of banking and the concrete in the corners makes it tricky. It’s got a lot of grip until it doesn’t. You have to really attack and be aggressive the way you drive your car, but when you do slip a tire it’s like you lose half a second. You just screw up that tiny little bit. It’s just a track where you’re really on edge and no banking or anything to really help you out.”

How do you improve at Martinsville?

“It’s something you work through. You try to just keep it right there and balance that marble on that razor blade all day long each and every lap. It’s definitely difficult, but it’s a lot of fun at the same time because it’s a challenge.”

What would you do if you won the Grandfather clock? Where would you put it?

“I’d put it in my living room. Somewhere where we would see it all the time. I can’t wait to hopefully have a chance tomorrow. I think we’ve got a shot at it. Our Camry was really good today in race trim. Qualifying we weren’t really sure what to expect. We didn’t do a mock run in practice. It maybe bit us, but for how good we got it in race trim, it was the right gamble. We’ll see if it pays off tomorrow.”
