DETROIT – Race fans visiting Watkins Glen International this weekend for the NASCAR and Grand-Am Rolex Road Racing events also will have the opportunity to experience the Team Chevy Racing Tour, filled with show cars, Chevrolet production vehicles, GM Performance Parts crate engines, parts and accessories, participate in question-and-answer sessions with Jamie McMurray and Jeff Burton, and collect autographs from the pit crew of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet.
“This is a trip we’ve had circled on the calendar for a long time,” said Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager, Chevy Racing. “Both Chevrolet and Watkins Glen have a long history in racing, so that alone makes this a very special weekend for us, but Team Chevy is going to be very busy both on the track and at the track, and we think the fans will like what they see.”
The Team Chevy Racing Tour display – where fans can see and learn more about vehicles like Corvette Convertible, Cruze ECO, Camaro Convertible, Equinox AWD, Volt, Sonic 5 Door, Traverse and Silverado – will be located in Midway West, and will be open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, and 7 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday.
Fans who sign up with Team Chevy will receive a “Team Chevy 34 Manufacturers’ Championships” commemorative t-shirt.
“Chevrolet is celebrating its centennial in 2011, so this is a very special year for us,” Chew said. “Bringing the Team Chevy Racing Tour to Watkins Glen allows us to share our heritage with our fans, so this display has something for everyone, like the latest GM Performance Parts crate engines and Chevy accessories and performance parts that fans can purchase from their local Chevy dealer, to go along with interactive games, digital photography and other activities for fans of all ages.
“Plus, race fans can take part in question-and-answer sessions with Team Chevy drivers Jamie McMurray, Jeff Burton and Gunter Schaldach.”
McMurray, driver of the No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet, will participate in a question-and-answer session at the display at 9 a.m. on Sunday, followed by Burton, driver of the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet, at 9:30 a.m. The pit crew of Juan Pablo Montoya’s No. 42 Chevrolet will sign autographs at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday. Schaldach, driver of the No. 07 Banner Racing Camaro GT.R in the Grand-Am Rolex Road Racing Series, will be at the display at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
Additionally, Chevrolet is supporting Cell Phones for Soldiers by providing locations at the display for drop boxes. Cell Phones for Soldiers raises money through the collection of gently used cell phones, and has provided since 2004 more than 1 million pre-paid calling cards and 60 million minutes of calling time to soldiers overseas.
