WELCOME, N.C. (August 11, 2011)- Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing and 12-time NASCAR championship winning team owner, has been nominated as one of 20 finalists for the Class of 2012 of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
The International Motorsports Hall of Fame, on the grounds of Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, honors the lives and achievements of the best of the best in motorsports worldwide. The Hall inducted its inaugural class in 1990.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be nominated with this group of motorsports giants,” said Childress. “They represent a cross-section of national and international drivers, riders, pilots, designers, builders, executives and showmen that reach back more than 100 years to the beginning of our sport. I appreciate the members of the voting board who thought of me when making the decision to have my name on the ballot.”
The 19 other Class of 2012 nominees are: Erwin “Cannonball” Baker, Kenny Bernstein, Keith Black, Joie Chitwood, Rene Dreyfus, Zora Arkus-Duntov, Harvey Firestone, John Force, Tommy Hinnershitz, David Hobbs, Ted Horn, Joe Leonard, Tommy Milton, Marvin Panch, Les Richter, Pedro Rodriguez, Sir Henry Segrave, Lee Shepherd and Chuck Yeager.
The legendary Dale Earnhardt, who earned 67 victories and six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships with RCR, was enshrined in 2006.
The Class of 2012 will be announced this fall and the induction ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 3, 2012.
