TALK ABOUT COMING INTO THE ROAD COURSE AT WATKINS GLEN AND YOUR TEAM’S STRATEGY HEADING TOWARD RICHMOND: “We are here to win. That’s ultimate strategy. A win takes care of itself. We’re here to get the best finish we can for the U.S. Army Chevrolet. That’s pretty much it. The strategy is going to unfold two or three races before depending on who gets the wins and what the situation is there and because of the situation we’re in with one win, Really proud of the team, really proud of the effort we’ve put forth this year being as consistent as we have. Where we’re at and have a shot at making the Chase; a good shot at making the Chase at that.”
IF IT RAINS, THE NATIONWIDE CARS ARE GOING TO RUN IN THE RAIN ON RAIN TIRES, WHY CAN’T CUP RUN ON SUNDAY ON RAIN TIRES? “Who said we couldn’t?”
WELL I GUESS YOU COULD, WHY DON’T YOU? IT IS ANNUAL QUESTION, BUT I’M JUST ASKING: “I don’t know the answer that that. I can speculate in saying that I think it is all based on the fans. I don’t think we necessarily want to see our fans sit in the rain because not every fan is going to sit in the rain is the ultimate answer. So, the more fans we can keep tied in the grandstands and around the grounds to watch the race, that’s a more ideal situation. It makes it more difficult from what I understand because I’ve done it, to drive, to pass because the visibility is cut down quite a bit. Therefore, for that reason, the fans don’t get to see as much if they do stick around because some are afraid of the rain.”
THE NEXT FEW RACES SEEM TO BE AT GOOD TRACKS FOR YOU, TALK ABOUT MICHIGAN AND BRISTOL: “There isn’t not a track on the schedule that I don’t look forward to going to. There are some tracks I look forward to going to more. Michigan, I’ve always said it is one of the easiest tracks to drive because it is so big and wide as well as somewhat forgiving. You get to place like Bristol, it is a little more difficult now to be a product of somebody else’s frustrations because of the way the bumpers align and therefore, it’s a little bit more secure when you are there that you used to be. Because before, if you had one bad run at Bristol, all it took was somebody lifting your back tires off the ground and you were in the fence. There’s a lot to look forward to throughout the rest of the season. We’ve done a good job, like I said, up to this point. But by no means are we locked in. By no means do we feel like we’re a.I shouldn’t say a championship caliber team, but I think we have some room that we need to grow to be more successful and have ourselves a better opportunity at winning the championship.
