After a one-week break in the schedule, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action this weekend in the Irish Hills at the Michigan International Speedway. David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing team look to rebound from a frustrating weekend at Pocono two weeks ago that saw Starr finish outside the top-ten for the first time since early June at Texas.
“We’re excited to get back to the racetrack, you know the last race we didn’t perform as well as we thought we would and we are such a competitive team that when you have a week like that you work extra hard to get the performance back to where we feel it should be. The team has worked hard and I know everyone is excited to get back to the racetrack and redeem ourselves.”
Thinking of racing at Michigan International Speedway brings back fond memories for the fourteen-year veteran of the truck series of another fast two-mile speedway much closer to his Texas home….
“Michigan is a cool place for me because there is so much history there and it’s a two-mile superspeedway. When I grew up as a little boy going to the racetrack with my dad who was a crew chief for Tony Bettenhausen and Ronnie Chumley one of the racetracks I remember most was another two-mile speedway; The Texas World Speedway.” Starr explained. “I actually won the last competitive race there back in 1997. It’s one of my favorite racetracks in the whole country and I used to watch the NASCAR races there when I was growing up. They don’t race there anymore; a lot of testing goes on there but that’s about all, there’s no competitive races going on anymore.”
“Going to Michigan sort of brings me back to my roots and my early memories of getting started in racing, it’s kind of a cool thing.”
For the third consecutive race, ASI Limited will be on the hood of the No.81 Toyota with associate support from Zachry.
“We’re going to bring a different set-up to Michigan this week so I’m really looking forward to getting to the track and rewarding all the guys on our SS Green Light team for their hard work this past couple weeks. I’m looking forward to a great run in the ASI Limited/Zachry Tundra.”
In eleven previous NCWTS races at the Michigan International Speedway, David’s average start is 16.5 and average finish is 15.9. He has one top-five and two top-ten finishes including an eighth place finish in 2010.
The VFW 200 is the 260th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 280th career start for Starr in the Truck Series. David has four victories, 46 top-fives and 113 top-tens through his 14-year career including one top-five and six top-tens this season.
There are only 30 trucks on the preliminary entry list for the VFW 200.
Practice for the VFW 200 will be Friday August 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. Qualifying will be Saturday August 20th at 9:40 a.m. and the green flag will fall on the VFW 200 at 12:30 pm. It will be shown live on SPEED TV. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio. All times Eastern.
