No. 30 Sporting Kansas City Chevrolet News and Notes

  • Sporting Kansas City… In a first for the organization, Turner Motorsports will cross over into the world of Major League Soccer (MLS) this weekend. The team will welcome Sporting Kansas City to the hood of James Buescher’s No. 30 Chevrolet Impala at Kansas Speedway. Sporting Kansas City is currently in their 16th year as a MLS club. In 2011, the organization celebrated the opening of LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, a brand new, $200 million soccer-specific stadium, directly across the street from Kansas Speedway. Winners of the 2000 MLS Cup, the 2000 MLS Supporters’ Shield and the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Sporting Kansas City currently sits in first-place in the Eastern Conference and is one of only five MLS clubs to have won all three major domestic titles.
  • Practicing with the team… Before representing Sporting Kansas City on the track, Buescher will get the chance to train with the team at their state-of-the-art practice facility (Sporting Club Training Facility at 6310 Lewis Road, KCMO, 64130). He will have the opportunity meet the players and workout with the team on Thursday, October 6th at 11:30 a.m. CT. The session will be open to any media members who may want to see the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) championship contender trade in his driving shoes for a pair of cleats and try his hand at a very different professional sport.
  • Role swap… After they get a chance to see what Buescher has got on the soccer field, several members of the Sporting Kansas City soccer club will have the opportunity to see what he has on the track. A group of players and executive staff members will attend the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race as guests of Turner Motorsports. They will experience what race day is like for the young driver and will view the race from atop the No. 30 pit box.
  • NCWTS notes… Buescher is having a career-year in his full-time pursuit for the NCWTS championship. The 21-year-old has collected nine top-five and 17 top-10 finishes, finishing outside the top-10 on only two occasions. He captured one pole award and led 190 laps. He is currently second in the championship point standings, just three points behind leader Austin Dillon with five races left on the schedule.
  • Kansas Speedway: by the numbers… Buescher has three NCWTS starts and one NNS start at the 1.5-mile oval. In his three NCWTS starts, he captured his best finish of fourth in the Truck Series June stop at the track. He made his one NNS start at the track in October 2010, finishing 35th after qualifying in the ninth spot.
  • This week’s Impala… The No. 30 team will hit the track with chassis TMS-113 this weekend at Kansas Speedway. This is the same chassis that Buescher raced to a runner-up finish at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis (LORI). TMS-113 has also seen track time at Phoenix International Raceway (Ryan Newman St. 6, Fn. 4), Bristol Motor Speedway (Kasey Kahne St. 9, Fn. 2), Richmond International Raceway (Buescher St. 36, Fn. 22) and Iowa Speedway (Mikey Kile St. 15, Fn. 19).
  • NNS this season… Buescher has made seven NNS starts this season, capturing one top-five and three top-10 finishes. He brought home his career-best finish of second at LORI in July.
  • Buescher’s Blog… Each week Buescher is in the No. 30 Impala he writes a blog on TheHotLap.com previewing the upcoming Nationwide race and following the race recapping the weekend’s event. You can read his preview blog on Thursday before the race and his recap on Tuesday following the event.
  • Turner Motorsports: In the hunt… In 29 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Reed Sorenson in third, Justin Allgaier in fifth and Jason Leffler in sixth.

Buescher on Turner Motorsports partnership with Sporting Kansas City

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with Sporting Kansas City. It’s cool to get the chance to work out with the team, I just hope I can keep up! It will be a great experience to see how other athletes prepare and then get the chance to show them around the garage and the pits. Racing is so different from other sports, so it’s interesting to be able to compare the two worlds. I really want to thank Steve [Turner] and Sporting Kansas City for putting this weekend together. Hopefully we’ll be able to put on a great show!”
