NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 1 of 22
Daytona International Speedway
WINNER, WINNER: Timothy Peters is one of 11 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers that have bragging rights as winners at the historic 2.5-mile track of Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Peters took the checked flag in 2010 after making a last-lap pass in Turn 3. Peters has completed 405 of 405 laps raced at the superspeedway and in four starts, the driver of the No. 17 Tire Kingdom/Service Central Toyota Tundra has finished no lower than 12th.
REST AND RELAXATION: Most drivers spent their off season on luxurious vacations or taking up a new hobby. This off season was a relaxing one for Peters as he spent the majority of his time off at home with his family. You could also find Peters at the race shop every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday where he was hands on helping the crew prepare for Daytona. One of Peters’ biggest initiatives this off season was to get in better shape, spending at least five days per week in the gym. The North Carolina native feels the best he has ever felt and is hoping it pays off this season as he looks to win his first Truck Series championship.
BACK ON BOARD: Red Horse Racing is proud to bring back TBC Retail Group and their family of automotive retail brands to the No. 17 Toyota Tundra team. Peters’ Toyota will carry the red, white and blue Service Central colors at Daytona with retail brand Tire Kingdom serving as primary sponsor. The TBC Retail Group family of brands is slated to serve as primary sponsorship on the No. 17 Toyota Tundra for additional races in the 2012 Truck Series schedule.
Fans are encouraged to look for special offers on Facebook and Twitter from all the TBC Retail Group Brands which include: Service Central, Tire Kingdom, National Tire and Battery (NTB), Merchant’s Tire and Auto (Merchant’s) and Big O Tires.
CHASSIS HISTORY: Peters and his No. 17 team will compete with chassis No. 108 at Daytona. The chassis was the primary truck for Peters at both superspeedway races during the 2011 season, Daytona and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The team captured an 11th-place and 23rd-place finish respectively.
Timothy Peters talks about Daytona International Speedway:
You have 100 percent of all laps completed at Daytona. What are your keys to success and staying out of ‘The Big One’?
“I think its luck. It’s being at the right place, at the right time. When we won in 2010, we were able to keep our nose clean and able to make a move there at the end. We were in the right place to make a move and we took it. Last year we missed ‘The Big One’ by the skin of our teeth and were able to bring home an 11th-place finish. You can go into this race with all types of strategies, but at the end of the day ‘The Big One’ is inevitable. You need to make sure you are out in front of it or you’re going to get hit.”
