No. 20 Grime Boss Toyota News and Notes:

10 DAYS REMOVED FROM SURGERY: Truex underwent an emergency appendectomy after feeling severe discomfort in the early morning hours of Tuesday May 22. Doctors operated on Truex, removing his appendix that afternoon after determining that surgery was needed. The 20-year old NNS competitor has been cleared and is ready to compete in this weekend’s 200-lap event at The Monster Mile. “I felt fine Monday evening, but around 2 a.m. felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I went to the hospital to find out that my appendix hadn’t burst, but needed surgery to be removed,” said Truex. “The procedure went extremely well and I’m ready to get back in the No. 20 Grime Boss Toyota this weekend…I’ll just be a little lighter.”

‘MY HOMETOWN’ OFF EXIT 63A GARDEN STATE PARKWAY: Truex joinsBruceSpringsteen and Bon Jovi who call the Garden State home. This weekend the NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Truex’s home track, Dover International Speedway. It’s a special place for the Truex family; Ryan and older brother Martin Truex Jr. grew up just across the state line in Mayetta, N.J. (No, Jersey Shore wasn’t filmed there).  A child of all sports, Ryan spent his younger years playing local hockey, but when his father put him in a Bandolero hoping he’d get bored and move on, he took a liking to the fast-paced bump and grind sport. He captured the Wall Stadium championship and dominated short tracks in his early years. He progressed through the racing ranks catching the attention of Michael Waltrip Racing, who gave Truex his start in the NASCAR K&N East Pro Series. He impressed, and captured the 2009 and 2010 series’ championships. The No. 20 Grime Boss driver has completed 28 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) events in his career earning one top five and six top-10 finishes.

SOLID AT THE MONSTER MILE: Dover International Speedway marks the sight where Truex captured the 2009 and 2010 K&N East Pro Series championships along with the 2009 Rookie of the Year honors. In his K&N career Truex has two starts at the Monster Mile where he earned a best finishing spot of third in 2010. The 20-year-old also has two NNS starts at the high-banked mile speedway where he notched an eighth-place finish with Joe Gibbs Racing last fall. Truex has an average starting spot of 11th, an average finish 13th and a 99.5% lap completion rate.

SO FAR IN 2012: His four NNS starts this season have come with three different teams on three different types of tracks. He has competed with Tommy Baldwin Racing and RAB Racing (Daytona International Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway), in addition to JGR.  Truex has competed twice with JGR this season, at Bristol Motor Speedway and most recently at Talladega Superspeedway.  He is also slated to compete at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Watkins Glen International Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway with JGR.

From the Cockpit:

Ryan Truex: “I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of the No. 20 Grime Boss Toyota this weekend at Dover. Matt Lucas [crew chief] and the No. 20 crew have been on a roll lately and I know they’ve built a great car this weekend,” said Truex. “Dover is my home track and I can’t wait to get out there in front of all my friends and family.  I have some great memories from Dover of capturing the 2009 and 2010 K&N East championships. If we keep the car out of trouble on Saturday, I know we’ll be in contention in the end.”
