A tonneau cover is a fantastic upgrade for nearly any pickup truck. Its primary uses are protecting your cargo from the elements, keeping equipment hidden, and improving your truck’s overall look. You’ll find no shortage of styles, manufacturers, and retailers, which can make it hard to find the right cover for your truck.
By purchasing tonneau covers online, or any other truck upgrade, you can quickly and easily compare prices, materials, compatibility and function before you purchase. The main obstacle is finding a retailer that offers exactly what you want while also making the buying process easy.
Factors to Lookout for When Buying a Tonneau Cover
Before diving into retailers, decide how you want your cover to fit your truck and meet your needs. Consider the following before purchasing a tonneau cover:
- Fitment Needed – Double-check your truck’s model year, configuration, and bed length with the store listing. If you are unsure, use the store assistant or contact the retailer.
- Cover Style – Options like hard folding tonneau covers offer rigid panels and surfaces, while soft roll-up covers are much more lightweight and convenient. Retractable covers are another option, offering a rigid surface with an easily accessible bed.
- Tonneau Material – There are many options, such as aluminum, vinyl, and reinforced plastic. Each has pros and cons and suits different use cases.
- Cargo Security & Protection – Look at the specifications regarding weather resistance and locking. Any given tonneau cover may not be completely waterproof or break-in proof.
- Installation Setup – Double-check to see how the cover is installed. Depending on the cover, it may be fully DIY or require specialized tools or professional help.
1. Prestige Truck
Prestige Truck is a great choice and a fantastic online starting point when looking to purchase or upgrade a tonneau cover. This retailer offers a wide selection of products, including other non-tonneau components, designed to work seamlessly with different budgets, trucks, and needs.
Prestige Truck is an authorized dealer for Retrax, UnderCover, TruXedo, Extang, BAK, and more—shop here for a wide variety of options, from rigid covers to soft roll-up designs.
Compatibility is a necessity when it comes to tonneau covers. Bed length and configurations can vary widely, even within the same model range, so choosing a cover based solely on appearance can be problematic. Prestige Truck provides a fitment check for your specific truck to confirm compatibility.
For example, if you’re looking for a BAKFlip MX4, use the online store tools to find the exact one you need to help confirm the correct fit. Overall, Prestige Truck offers everything you need while also providing access to a variety of brands and support tools.
2. RealTruck
RealTruck is another well-known retailer in the truck upgrades and accessories market. Like the previous retailer, RealTruck offers products for a wide range of models and makes. Its online catalog features everything from tonneau covers to lighting to suspension components.
If you’re planning multiple upgrades at once, easy access to many product categories can make a single retailer a one-stop shop. Additionally, RealTruck provides the information you need to ensure the parts you order for your vehicle will function and are compatible.
RealTruck is a strong option if you need to research a broad range of truck accessories and components from a single retailer. Triple-check configurations that require precise measurements, such as bed configuration, for any products you choose.
3. AutoAnything
Our third retailer is AutoAnything, which also offers vehicle accessories. AutoAnything’s product range includes truck bed covers along with other aftermarket upgrades and accessories, making it a great place to compare options.
The biggest advantage of shopping online at a retailer with multiple categories is the ability to research and compare many parts in one place. Depending on what’s available, you can compare tonneau cover options with compatible add-ons.
As always, ensure compatibility and fitment wherever applicable before purchasing. Also check whether any component needs professional installation and whether any new components interfere with existing ones.
Getting the Best Value for Your Tonneau Cover
While a lower price point may be more appealing, the cheapest option is likely not the best long-term value. A tonneau cover that fits, is durable, works as intended, and meets all your needs is a much more worthwhile investment versus one chosen on price alone.
Before you check out, compare the total cost, including tax and shipping, with other similar covers. Include the potential installation expenses, including tools or professional assistance. Also consider how often you will need to access your truck bed. If you frequently need access to the bed, choose a cover that is easy to remove or access.
Finally, compare the options offered from multiple different retailers. Any retailer may be running a sale or bonus, and you may never know if you don’t check. Also, compare brands side by side to find the best combination for your needs.
Bottom Line
Ultimately, the best place to buy and the best tonneau cover for you depend on many variables. Factors such as vehicle make, budget, and preferences can drastically influence your choice. RealTruck and AutoAnything are both excellent options for comparing truck accessories and bed covers.
However, if you want a fantastic, dedicated entry point, Prestige Truck stands out among the competition. Prestige Truck offers established brands, fitment checks, free shipping on most orders, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. With the right research and a little time, you can find a cover that fits all your needs for your truck.
