No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes
BRANDT Team: 2012 Season in Review – The 2012 season has been one marked by consistency for the No. 31 BRANDT team. Heading into Kansas Speedway, the team has one win (Montreal), six top-five finishes and 17 top-10 finishes. This is the same tally the team finished the 2011 season with, meaning there is room to improve upon that mark by the conclusion of 2012. Additionally, Justin Allgaier has led 165 laps thus far in the season.
Allgaier at Kansas Speedway – Allgaier is making his fourth start at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway this weekend. In three previous starts, Allgaier has two top-10 finishes. In his start last fall, he finished just outside the top-10 in 11th, after starting 21st. Additionally, Allgaier has completed 100 percent of the laps he’s attempted at Kansas (600).
Allgaier Lends A Hand – In 2010, representatives from The NASCAR Foundation, Sprint, Inc., Ronald McDonald House, Turner Construction
and Kansas Speedway broke ground and dedicated a brand new state-of-the-art playground at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City. The playground was one of five community service projects across the country hosted by The NASCAR Foundation to help celebrate NASCAR Day. On Thursday morning, Allgaier will join representatives from the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City and the NASCAR Foundation in partnership with the RMHC-KC to reveal a new mosaic sign for the playground created by a local artist.
Come See Me – On Saturday morning, Allgaier will make a stop at the Chevy Display at 10:30 a.m. for a question and answer period with fans prior to qualifying at 11:05 a.m.
This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will drive TMS-327 in the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway. This car was previously raced at Kentucky Speedway just a few weeks ago, where Allgaier finished eighth after starting from the 10th position.
Allgaier on heading to Kansas:
“We’ve had a rough couple races over the last few weeks. Even though we haven’t had the finishes to reflect it, this BRANDT team has worked so hard and refuses to give up, regardless of the circumstances. I’d really love nothing more than to head to Kansas and get a finish that these guys and all our supporters at BRANDT deserve. We have a lot of work to do in order to get back up into the top-five in points, and there’s no doubt in my mind that we can start that this weekend. I think the extra time on the track on Thursday will be beneficial and I’m grateful for the opportunity we have to test it out.”

Double vision… For the second consecutive week, the NASCAR Nationwide
Series (NNS) race will feature two Great Clips Chevrolet Impalas on the track vying for the win. In addition to Brad Sweet’s No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet, Turner Motorsports’ No. 30 entry to be driven by James Buescher will also feature the logo of the longest-running sponsor in the NNS on the hood.
This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-328 this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Brad Sweet last drove this same car at Chicagoland Speedway, bringing home a 15th-place effort. Kasey Kahne drove this car earlier in the season in May at Charlotte Motor Speedway, finishing 14th.
Who’s on the pit box?… Trent Owens, who has led James Buescher and Nelson Piquet Jr. to NNS victories this season, serves as crew chief for the No. 38 Great Clips team with drivers Kahne and Sweet. A former driver himself, Owens is a long-time fixture in the NASCAR garage. Over the years, the Darlington, S.C., native has been successful working with a variety of drivers with different levels of experience and has visited victory lane with both rookies and veterans alike including Buescher, Piquet. Jr., Mark Martin, Dave Blaney and Reed Sorenson.
Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as a mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38, as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.
Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.
Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips also serves as primary sponsor for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) driver Joey Saldana in the World of Outlaws season. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they are featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.
12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.
Sweet on racing at Kansas Speedway
“Last week at Charlotte, we had a somewhat tough night but we bounced back for a top-15 finish. Still, we are focusing on top-10’s and top-fives so we are looking to rebound this weekend at Kansas and work on rebuilding the momentum we’ve been gaining over the last few weeks. We learned some things at Charlotte that I think are going to translate over to this weekend’s race. I’m interested to get on the track and see what the new surface is like. With two days of practice, I think its going to be a great weekend for this Great Clips team!”

Looking for success… The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) will make its first and only trip of the year to the freshly resurfaced Kansas Speedway this Saturday afternoon. This will mark Buescher’s second trip to the Kansas 1.5-mile oval in 2012. In April, Buescher drove his Chevrolet Silverado into victory lane for his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) win.
It’s Gonna Be Great!…Back for the second week in a row, the No.30 Chevrolet Impala driven by James Buescher will don the Great Clips colors. Great Clips, Inc. was established in 1982 in Minneapolis. Previous Race Recap… Last week, James Buescher went into Charlotte Motor Speedway with an “It’s Gonna Be Great!” attitude. After a less than stellar qualifying effort, Buescher went to work picking off positions one by one. After a close call on the track as well as in the pits with fuel strategy, Buescher made a couple passes in the late laps to notch his eighth top-10 of the season.
This Week’s Chevy Impala…The Great Clips No. 30 team will bring chassis TMS-326 to the newly resurfaced Kansas Speedway this Saturday afternoon. Buescher raced this chassis at Charlotte in May, in both Kentucky races of 2012 as well at the stop at Michigan. The chassis has recorded three top-10 finishes.
Buescher on this weekend’s NNS race at Kansas
“I’ve been looking forward to getting back to Kansas since April. It will always hold a special memory to me with it being the sight of my first NCWTS victory. I can’t wait to try out the new surface that they laid down. I think it will produce some close racing for the fans.”
