Four Team Chevy Drivers Will Start in Top-10 for Aaron’s 499 as Qualifying Canceled Due to Rain
TALLADEGA, Ala. – May 4, 2013 – Qualifying for Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway has been canceled due to persistent inclement weather.
The starting grid has been set per the provisions in the NASCAR rulebook. Starting positions are based on the times from the first practice session held on Friday.
There will be 17 Chevrolet SS driver’s in Sunday’s race. Starting in the top-10 will be Ryan Newman, No. 39 Haas Automation Chevrolet SS – 5th, Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS – 8th, Jeff Gordon, No. 24 IMRON Elite Chevrolet SS – 9th and Kasey Kahne, No. 5 Time Warner Cable Chevrolet SS – 10th.
A total of 44 cars were entered for Sunday’s race, and the qualifying rainout determined that Elliott Sadler (Toyota) is the only driver who will miss the race.
Carl Edwards (Ford) was the quickest during the first practice session that was completed Friday afternoon. Martin Truex, Jr. (Toyota) will start second.
Other starters in the top 10 are: Marcos Ambrose (Ford) – 3rd, Joey Logano (Ford) – 4th, Matt Kenseth (Toyota) – 6th and Denny Hamlin/Brian Vickers (Toyota) – 7th.
The Aaron’s 499 is scheduled to start on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., EDT and will be aired live on FOX TV, MRN Radio and Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
