MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 28, 2014) – The speedy mile-long track in Dover, Del. will host Michael Annett’s No. 7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS team this weekend, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie attempts to make a good at a track that has been kind to him, dating back to his starts there in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Annett finished inside the top half of the field in all 10 of his Nationwide Series starts at Dover International Speedway, which included a third-place finish in the fall 2012 event. He averaged a 13.5-place finish there in Nationwide Series competition.
“Bono” at Dover … Dover was the scene of Kevin Manion’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory as a crew chief, coming in the 2007 spring race with driver Martin Truex. Most recently, Manion’s car, driven by Jamie McMurray, started seventh and finished 11th in the fall race of 2013.
The 400-mile event airs live on Sunday, June 1 at 1 pm Eastern on FOX.
MICHAEL ANNETT QUOTE:
“I was close to winning at Dover two years ago (in the Nationwide Series race, finishing third), and I’ve always felt comfortable there. It can be a difficult place, too. It’s a really fast mile track and the closing rates are just absurd. Avoiding accidents is half the battle. If we’re able to do that, and get our handling to where it needs to be, I think this can be a positive weekend for us.”
