THE NEWS AND NOTES

THE Q & A

The No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang

·    MOVING ON UP THE POLE LIST: Joey Logano earned the pole two weeks ago at Dover International Speedway, earning the 24th pole of his NASCAR Nationwide Series career. By winning the pole, Logano moved up to sixth on the all-time pole winners list, one behind Kevin Harvick and two behind Carl Edwards. Kyle Busch holds the record for the most NNS poles at 38.

·    FORMER MICHIGAN WINNER:  The front stretch Victory Lane area is somewhere that Logano has visited before at Michigan. One of his 21-career NASCAR Nationwide Series wins came at Michigan, coming back in 2012. Logano led 31 of the 125 laps en route to the victory. Despite Logano’s success in the Nationwide Series, the win is his only top-five finish in five-career NNS races at the track.

·    ONLY RACE NUMBER FOUR: Logano will be racing in just his fourth Nationwide Series race of the year despite the fact that the series has run 12 events.  In those three starts, Logano has finishes of third, fourth and fifth.

·    100 TOP-10 FINISHES:  With Logano’s fifth-place finish at Darlington Raceway, he earned his 100th-career Nationwide Series top-10 finish. By finishing third in Dover, Logano now has 101 top-10 finishes in 128-career starts.  That means Logano has earned a top-10 finish in an amazing 79-percent of the starts that he’s mad dating back to 2008.

·    MONDAY MEDIA DAY: On Monday, Logano spent the day in New York City participating in a day-long media tour.  Along the way, Logano stopped by FOX and Friends to help promote Discount Tire’s “Be Tire Smart” initiative and did a live fan Q&A with car-enthusiast’s website Jalopnik.com

JOEY LOGANO, NO. 22 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD

ARE YOU EXCITED TO BE BACK IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES IN THREE OF THE NEXT FOUR RACES?

“I think it will be a lot of fun. We want to go out there and just race for wins. That is what we are here for – to win races. We are still racing for the Nationwide Series Owners’ Championship. We have some work to do there because the No. 54 team has been really strong this year. But there is still a lot of the season to go and with a few wins, we will be right back in the thick of things. We have a strong team this year, and we will only get better as the season goes on. This is about the time last year that we started getting really strong and winning a bunch of races with all four of our drivers. We can do that again.”

WHY HAS QUALIFYING AND GETTING ALL OF THESE POLES COME SO EASY FOR YOU IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES?

“I wouldn’t say that it’s come easy at all. It’s the result of having a lot of good cars throughout the years.  And I think I have a pretty good knack for qualifying.  I’ve always been pretty successful at qualifying during my entire career in whatever series I’ve run. And it just came pretty natural to me when I got to the Nationwide Series and in the Cup Series. But mostly, I just say it’s the product of having really fast race cars and good teams behind me.”
