Edwards, Buescher top boards of NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series Practices
HAMPTON, Ga. (Aug. 29, 2014) – Carl Edwards turned a lap of 28.747 (192.855 mph) around Atlanta Motor Speedway to lead Friday afternoon’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) practice session at the 1.5-mile oval. Roush Fenway rookie Chris Buescher followed suit, turning a lap of 31.167 (177.880 mph) to lead the first Nationwide Series (NNS) session.
Greg Biffle turned the eighth fastest lap in the NSCS session and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 11th.
Fellow Roush Fenway rookie Ryan Reed was sixth in the first NNS session, and Trevor Bayne was seventh. Buescher, Bayne and Reed were fifth, 12th and 16th respectively in final NNS practice.
The NSCS will hold qualifying this afternoon at 7:10 p.m. ET. NNS qualifying is set for Saturday at 4:10 p.m. with the race set for 7:30 p.m. The race will be televised live on ESPN2.
The Sprint Cup Series will hold two more 50-minute practice sessions on Saturday (3:00 and 6:00 p.m.). Sunday night’s 500-mile NSCS race is set 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on ESPN.
