TALLADEGA, Alabama (April 12, 2011) – – In racing, a mulligan offers a chance for you to forget about the race; despite the finish and march forward. For Chad Hackenbracht and his CGH Motorsports team, the team used their mulligan in the season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February – now leaving this Friday’s 3 Amigos 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway as the right opportunity to “officially” kick-off their 2011 ARCA Racing Series championship bid.
The second of 19 races this season comes at a perfect opportunity for the Concord, North Carolina-based CGH Motorsports as the team recently announced two personnel changes whom both have a wealth of experience at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.
With Rob Torrey, otherwise known as “Bucket” calling the shots as crew chief and Kevin Reed, ARCA’s 2010 crew chief of the year serving as director of competition; calling CGH Motorsports a sleeper for Friday afternoon’s anticipated thriller would be an understatement.
“I’m ready to get back behind the wheel of a race car,” said Hackenbracht, a native of New Philadelphia, Ohio. “I cannot tell you the hard work that we’ve put into our superspeedway program over the last two months or so. We’re hoping that with the input of Rob and Kevin, we’ll find ourselves in contention for a good finish Friday afternoon.”
The family-owned CGH Motorsports team originally had plans to participate in the open-test at Talladega late last month, but the team bowed out of the two-day session because of the impending weather thus shifting their focus not only on their No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet Impala but the other ARCA Racing Series events ahead too.
“We wanted to go and test, but we thought it over and just decided it wasn’t in our best interest,” explained the 19-year old rising star. “ “We’re not worried, our car should be fast and we’re looking good for the upcoming races, I just want to go out there and run well.”
Hackenbracht has one prior start at Talladega coming last April where he started 41st, stayed out of trouble and collected a respectable 21st place finish.
“I did a lot of learning last year,” Hackenbracht recalled. “We didn’t have the best piece, but we had a car that I was able to get in the group and draft; learn and finish the race. This year, we’ve stepped up our superspeedway program, so I’m looking forward to putting our CGH Motorsports machine in the lead pack and earning a top-10 finish.”
Sitting deep in the point’s standings, Hackenbracht knows that a cautious approach to Friday’s event would be smart – but he realizes that it could hurt him too.
“We haven’t really decided on an attack plan for Friday yet,” Hackenbracht said. “We know that we have to finish well to gain some ground in the point standings. There’s a lot that can happen in the race, but we can’t worry about that. We just need to go out there run our race and hope in the end everything falls into place.”
