Clint Bowyer No. 15 BlueDEF Toyota Camry Fontana Preview

CORNELIUS, N.C. —  The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series concludes its three race swing on the West Coast with a trip to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., this weekend.

Bowyer enjoys the high speeds found at the 2-mile oval. He has been in peak form during his 14 starts at the California track with half of his starts resulting in top-10 finishes.

He and his No. 15 BlueDEF team will be working hard throughout the weekend to keep Bowyer’s 14th-place position in the Chase points standings. The Kansas native, however, may have one eye on the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament after his work at the track is finished. His Kansas Jayhawks kick off their run in the tournament on Friday. Bowyer and the Jayhawks will be sporting Blue colors this week and both teams DEFinitely hope their weekend ends with good runs.

What do you expect to see at California?

“It should be a fun race. To be good there though you have to be able to roll into the corner and drive through it right up against the wall. There’s always some good three-wide racing and last year we had our PEAK Toyota in positon in the closing laps –like nearly won the darn thing but just had a tire go down with a lap to go. Excited to go back though and see if we can close the deal this time.”

CHASSIS

Chassis No. 800 serves as the primary chassis for Bowyer at Fontana. This chassis raced in 2014 at Kentucky in July (23rd), Dover in June (4th) and Bristol in August (17th). Chassis No. 816 serves as the back-up chassis. This chassis raced in 2014 at Atlanta and Charlotte in the Fall where parts failures relegated him to 38th-place and 43rd-place finishes.
