This is the same Chevrolet SS that Dillon raced to a ninth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway in April and a 20th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. What is the key to getting around Dover International Speedway?
“Dover in my mind is a super, repetitive track. It’s pretty similar end-to-end. It is relatively bumpy and it does not change a whole lot. Usually when you get your car right, you keep it right. The key to getting around there is really dependant on the type of tire Goodyear takes. Does the track rubber up much and does it cause the track to change? It’s a super demanding track physically and mentally.”
What is the hardest part for you to figure out there?
“You really have to have a car that rolls through the center well and gets in and off the corners well, too. You want very little change in exit and straightaways speeds. You have to carry a lot of momentum.”
What is the hardest thing about race conditions at Dover?
The hardest thing about race conditions is really passing. It all depends on how wide the track gets. Usually the bottom two-thirds is where you want to be and if you can get your car to the bottom of three and four, it makes it easier to pass.

Charlotte Motor Speedway Race Rewind … Scott and the Shore Lodge Chevrolet qualified in the third position for the XFINITY Series Hisense 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the home track for the NASCAR industry. Scott raced in the second position for the first quarter of the race before battling a mechanical issue for the remainder of the event. The Shore Lodge Chevrolet finished in the 20th position.
Last Spring at Dover … Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet team had a third-place qualifying effort at Dover International Speedway. When the green flag waved, Scott took advantage of being up front by running in the top five through the first 75 of 200 laps. During the team’s three pit stops, all under caution, the team made several adjustments to help alleviate a tight-handling condition around the one-mile oval. After dropping to seventh during a lap 79 restart, Scott would remain in the top 10 to finish in seventh place.
Double Duty … In addition to competing at DIS in the XFINITY Series this weekend, Scott is scheduled to drive the No. 33 ACME/Kraft Singles Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, May 31 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Fox Sports 1. Race Rewind … Last weekend, Dillon drove the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/NWTF.org Chevrolet Camaro to a seventh-place finish, recording the team’s eighth top-10 finish of the season and qualified for XFINITY’s Dash4Cash event this weekend. Despite battling a tight-handling race car, Dillon managed to stay in-and-around the top 10 for a majority of the 200-lap race. He crossed the finish line seventh after a strong restart on lap 163.

Looking Ahead … Following the Series’ off-weekend after Dover, Paul Menard will make his second XFINITY Series start with the No. 33 team at Michigan International Speedway for the June 13 event.

This Week’s South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway … Brendan Gaughan will utilize chassis No. 125 this weekend at the one-mile concrete oval. This Richard Childress Racing-prepared Chevrolet was last on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway in February, qualifying sixth and finishing 12th. In 2014, Ty Dillon piloted chassis No. 125 at four events (Phoenix International Raceway, Richmond International Raceway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway), averaging a starting position of 10th and finishing position of 11th.
Gaughan’s Monster Mile Stats …In six XFINITY Series starts at Dover International Speedway, Gaughan has completed 1194 of 1205 (99.1 percent) laps that he has competed. The Las Vegas native also has eight starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and earned one top-five finish, three top-10 finishes and averages a starting position of 17.6 and a finishing position of 16.0.
Last May at Dover … The No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team qualified 10th for the 2014 XFINITY Series Buckle Up 200 at Dover International Speedway. Gaughan reported early his Chevrolet was free on entry. After the first caution the Las Vegas native restarted 28th after a pit road incident. The No. 62 RCR team used the remainder of the race to gain track position and finish 12th at the Monster Mile.

In the Rearview Mirror: Charlotte Motor Speedway … Gaughan qualified 17th for the Hisense 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Las Vegas native battled tight-handling conditions for a majority of the 200-lap event. Gaughan reported a right-rear tire going down. The caution flag flew on lap 111 and the 39-year-old driver came down pit road to the attention of his RCR team. Gaughan restarted in the 19th position, one lap down, where he raced for the remainder of the event. The No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet crossed the finish line in the 18th position.
Stats So Far in 2015 … Leading into the 12th event of the 2015 XFINITY Series season, Gaughan averages a starting position of 9.4 and a finishing position of 16.1. The Las Vegas native has made 766 green flag passes, has had 40 fastest laps and spent 1623 laps in the top 15.
To the Points …As the Series heads to Dover, Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team are 10th in the driver point standings.

“I love the race track, it is the only place I ever hold my breath as I am racing. My spotter has had to remind me countless times to breathe. The only way to really describe racing at Dover is to relate it to a roller coaster. As a driver, you can feel the sensation of the speed and you basically drive off a three-story building on the entry of Turn 1. Dover is a great track and it is one of those trophies I really want to win. I want Miles the Monster. I think it is easily one of the coolest trophies in this sport.”
We hear about short track and intermediate track programs, where does Dover fall?
“Dover is kind of its own animal, similar to Bristol. Bristol is a short track, but it is really just like Bristol because anything can happen. Dover is a short track, but it is its own beast. Dover is so much fun and as a driver I look forward to racing there.”
