MLT Motorsports to Race in Six Hours of the Glen

Braselton, GA (June 20, 2023) – Today, MLT Motorsports announced their entry into the 2023 Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen race to be held Sunday, June 25, at Watkins Glen International. The team will field the No. 54 Belle Haven Investments/Aufgang Architecture/AdeptID/OwnBackup LMP3 Ligier JS-320 entry with drivers Jason Rabe, Andrew “Pinky” Pinkerton, and Stevan McAleer. This marks the first IMSA WeatherTech race for the team in 2023, in addition to their full-time entry in IMSA’s VP Racing SportsCar Challenge series in an LMP3.

“First, I need to give a huge thanks to all of the partners for believing in me and making this dream come true,” said Rabe. “Belle Haven Investments, Notlad Racing, AdeptID, OwnBackup, Aufgang Architecture, and of course, MLT Motorsports.

“Making my IMSA WeatherTech debut at Watkins Glen is very special because it’s a home event at one of my favorite tracks. I used to camp in the infield in my car for a lot of the IMSA and IndyCar races wishing to be on the other side of the fence. Now here I am about to race in the six-hour endurance classic, which is extra special since it’s the last year of LMP3 in WeatherTech. It’s a big class field, and I get to race with my friends!”

Rabe will be joined by Pinkerton, an MLT Motorsports engineer, and strategist usually found on the pit box. This week he takes on driving duties to help improve the team’s 2022 result at The Glen.

“First off, I am extremely grateful to Dr. Mike and the whole of the MLT team for trusting me with this responsibility.” Pinkerton continued, “This will be my first WeatherTech race behind the wheel after calling strategy and engineering the LMP3 program for the past year with the team. Our car has pace, and we were well-positioned strategy-wise during last year’s race. After a strong test last month and doing our homework in the shop, I am excited to show what we can do as a team. On the driving side, I can’t wait to share the car with Jason and Stevan around the extremely quick Watkins circuit. Physically it is a very demanding track as you are constantly under load in high-speed corners and really have to trust the Ligier’s aero-platform.”

Rounding out the trio of drivers is veteran McAleer who will also be competing in the Michelin Pilot Challenge series that weekend. A previous winner at The Glen, McAleer is no stranger to the 2.45-mile historic road course.

“I’m very excited to find myself back in WeatherTech for the 6 Hours of the Glen,” said McAleer. “I tested with MLT last month in their Ligier LMP3 car and was thoroughly impressed with their program, staff, and car performance. I am good friends with Jason Rabe, so this is how the discussions began, and we have always talked about being teammates one day, so this will be a memorable moment.”

Having logged the most laps at the track, McAleer has high expectations for the race, saying, “Pinky was plenty fast at the test, so I have high expectations for the team and result.” He continued, “This will be the first Weathertech race for Pinky and Jason, so traffic management will be key, and as always with endurance racing, the pit stops have to be executed quickly with no penalties. I do fully believe we will be in the running to fight for the win.”

Rabe added, “Having Stevan and Andrew as my co-drivers is pretty cool, and that’s a big part of why this event means even more to me. They are both incredibly talented, and we’ve all known each other for a while now. We coach and race in many of the same paddocks, motor clubs, and school programs. We are looking forward to going after a trophy in our MLT Motorsports LMP3 Ligier JS-320!”

Fans can watch all the action live at 10:30 AM ET, with the first half of the race broadcast on Peacock. Coverage switches to USA Network at 2:00 PM ET and runs until the finish at 5:00 PM ET. IMSA TV will also have live flag-to-flag coverage from 10:35 AM – 4:40 PM ET. Be sure to follow MLT Motorsports on Instagram @mltmotorsports for live team updates.

About MLT Motorsports:

Founded in 2018 by Dr. Mike Thompson, MLT Motorsports has established itself as a premier team amongst the IMSA paddock in the LMP3 category. Based near Road Atlanta, the team has easy access to some of the best road courses in the country and, importantly, Florida, where the sportscar racing world kicks off every winter at Daytona and Sebring. Constant investment and maintenance have seen the team arrive at each race weekend with top-notch race cars and state-of-the-art equipment.

Early success can be attributed to the hard work and experience the team possesses, as the first win came on their second start at Mid-Ohio in 2019. During the 2021 season, MLT finished off the podium only once on the way to a double championship win, earning the IMSA Prototype Challenge Team’s and Driver’s Championship with drivers Dakota Dickerson and Josh Sarchet. Parlaying the success of the 2021 Championship, MLT made its IMSA WeatherTech Championship debut at Mid-Ohio in May of 2022, joining the ranks of the best sportscar teams in the world.

Notes of Interest

● Kevin Harvick will be peach perfect this weekend in Music City. The 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion will drive the No. 4 Busch Light Peach Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing in Sunday’s Ally 400 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway. Busch Light Peach is a crisp, refreshing, peach-flavored lager with a touch of sweet on the front end and a clear, beer finish on the back end. It is available for a limited time only in 12-, 24- and 30-packs nationwide.

● Harvick comes into Nashville riding a wave of consistency with five straight finishes of 11th or better, a run highlighted by a second-place drive May 14 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

● Consistency has been a hallmark of Harvick’s career, and Nashville is yet another example of how he is a top-10 stalwart. In his two NASCAR Cup Series starts at the track, Harvick has finished fifth and 10th, respectively, to earn an average finish of 7.5. The result is emblematic of Harvick’s overall record at tracks that are between a mile and 1.49 miles in length, as he has an average finish of 11.9 in a career that dates back to his Cup Series debut on Feb. 26, 2001 at the 1.017-mile North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham where Harvick finished a respectable 14th.

● Prior to the inaugural Ally 400 at Nashville in 2021, 10 years had passed since NASCAR last competed at the 1.333-mile, concrete oval. It was a NASCAR Xfinity Series race on July 23, 2011 and it was won by Carl Edwards. The NASCAR Cup Series had never competed at the track until the 2021 Ally 400, but Cup teams tested there extensively back in the day when it was fashionable to race on Sunday, test somewhere on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then fly to the next Cup race on Thursday. Harvick, now in his 23rd year of Cup Series competition, has logged more laps in a Cup car at Nashville than any of his Cup Series brethren despite the track never hosting a Cup race until 2021.

● In addition to testing a lot at Nashville, Harvick also raced extensively at the track, performing incredibly well. In four career Xfinity Series starts, Harvick has two wins – April 15, 2006 and April 3, 2010. He finished third on June 10, 2006 and recorded his worst finish, seventh, in his first Xfinity Series race at Nashville on April 14, 2001. It all gave Harvick an average finish of third. He also had a lap completion rate of 100 percent, running all 900 laps available to him, and he led 123 of those laps.

● Harvick’s lone NASCAR Truck Series start at Nashville came on April 2, 2010 when he finished second to Kyle Busch.

● In all of Harvick’s starts at Nashville – a total of seven – he has never finished outside the top-10. In fact, all but two of those finishes have been in the top-five. He finished seventh in his first Xfinity Series start at the track on April 14, 2001 and 10th in last year’s NASCAR Cup Series race. To break it down even further, Harvick has three top-twos, four top-threes and five top-fives, the most recent of which came in the inaugural Ally 400 when he finished fifth.

Kevin Harvick, Driver of the No. 4 Busch Light Peach Ford Mustang

Last year when you competed at Nashville, you said after the race that you had found some things regarding your car’s setup that proved to be a turning point in your season, and it seemed to lay the groundwork for better performances that ultimately showed up via wins at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn and Richmond (Va.) Raceway. What was it that you learned?

“For us, it was really just a turning point in thought processes and (chassis) setups and kind of validating the things that we knew we could do with the car, but it just took different approaches to make the car do those types of things. From that point on in the season, we were really able to be competitive. It just took a little bit to get everything going, but it was definitely the turning point in the season, for sure.”

Those back-to-back victories last year ended a winless drought. Did you feel that those wins were coming, especially after what you learned at Nashville?

“We really thought after we went to Nashville that we had kind of righted the ship. The beginning of the year was rough – just a lot of concepts and things that didn’t really pay off or work out. But when we went to Nashville, we had a practice session, we tried some things, and we ran really well in the race. That’s really when our season took a turn in the right direction, and we had a lot more confidence in the things that we were doing. So as we went week to week, we kept getting a little bit better because our concepts and things were really in the direction that we needed to be headed. We felt like we gave a couple away before we won the first couple of races, and I think as we got to the end of the year, we had some terrible luck and got knocked out of the playoffs, but it felt like we were in contention to win a few of the races over the last 10. On days when you had the opportunity to win, you needed to take advantage of them.”

Prior to the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville in 2021, you last competed there in 2010 during a NASCAR Xfinity Series race. What were your expectations when you rolled back into the track after an 11-year absence?

“I didn’t ever go to Nashville without the expectation of winning. It was one of our best racetracks throughout the years and we’ve always had good success there and always enjoyed the racetrack itself. I’m glad we’re back there in Cup. That facility was built to have a Cup date. I’m excited to be there because we have just a ton of fans.”

In addition to Xfinity Series racing at Nashville, that venue was the go-to track back when you had unlimited testing. Outside of the Xfinity Series, how many testing miles do you think you have at Nashville?

“Not many in the last little bit, but there was a period of time that we spent a lot of time at Nashville. We developed a lot of the coil binding in the front and rear springs there and at Milwaukee. When Nashville was built, I actually was part of the very first tire test – the first time that anybody was on the racetrack. Obviously, I’ve had a little bit of a layoff there, but from the very first moment I’ve been a part of that racetrack.”

Talk about those days of unlimited testing, where after a three-day race weekend you’d go test for two or three days somewhere, oftentimes at Nashville.

“Really, we can go back to 2000. I did all the testing for Dale Earnhardt as we went through the year. So, we would go race and then we would go to a racetrack, whatever racetrack that would be, and I also did my own testing. We probably did four or five tests – I think at that point they could only do seven tests in the Cup Series – and then I had all my tests that you could do in the Xfinity Series. But you could also go to any racetrack that wasn’t on the schedule, and at that particular point, Kentucky wasn’t on the schedule, so we spent a lot of time at Kentucky developing stuff for Dale and the Cup program. But for the most part, we did, midweek, probably 20-25 tests a year as we went through the season, and most of them would be two-day tests. And that’s what you did. You were never home. You tested all the time. When you had a problem, you just went somewhere and tested. Whether it be Greenville-Pickens or Caraway or VIR, Milwaukee, it didn’t matter, you could go to any racetrack if it wasn’t on the schedule. Through the years they just changed that because we would spend so much time at the racetrack. We would test on different brands of tires and different series of cars, and we would do whatever it took. But, for the most part, you probably spent 20-25 two-day tests away from what you did on those three-day weekends.”

When you returned to Nashville in 2021, was the track still the same as you remembered it, or had it changed some?

“The track really hadn’t changed. I think a couple of the bumps were a little bit worse than probably what they were before, but nothing drastic. I think the stuff they sprayed on the racetrack added a little bit of grip to the higher lanes in practice, and then for the race it was really back down to the bottom and more traditional like it had been before.”

You were one of the handful of drivers who had prior experience at Nashville. Did that help when you returned to the track, or had the march of time and technology made it an even playing field for everyone?

“I’d spent a fair amount of time there, so just having that general picture in your mind of how it raced and the things that you did and how it went was definitely good to have, and it kind of took away some of the questions you might have at a place you hadn’t been to ever before.”

Nashville is concrete, but does it race like its fellow concrete tracks – Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway?

“Bristol and Dover are fairly similar as far as the way you drive them, and the feel and the speed. Nashville, it is concrete and it does take things differently, but it’s much flatter, and has a much different pace to the car compared to those two places with all the banking in the corners. Nashville is a very unique track because it’s flat with wide corners, and with the rubber building up on the track and the resin going down, it kind of evolves as the weekend goes.”

  • Roush Responsible for Marquee Wins at Nashville: NASCAR’s initial tenure at Nashville lasted around a decade, and Jack Roush not only opened but closed out the run the Xfinity Series had there with victories. In the very first NXS race back in 2001, Greg Biffle led 133 of the 225 laps to capture one of his five series wins that season. Carl Edwards, responsible for five NXS wins at Nashville Superspeedway, won the very last NASCAR Xfinity race there, leading 124 of the 225 laps in July of 2011.
  • Cousin Carl Dominates in Music City: Edwards dominated in his 13 starts at Nashville, finishing top-10 in all but once race, and top five in all but two. He averaged a finish of 3.5 with five overall wins, including three-straight from 2006-07, and the final two in 2011. Driving the No. 60 entry in all 13 events, Edwards led a combined 247 laps in the first three wins, then went on to lead a combined 272 laps in the 2011 races, which stands as the last time NASCAR visited the facility.
  • Tale of the Tape: Overall at Nashville SS, 15 different drivers have driven for Jack Roush at the 1.33-mile track. RFK has 28 top-10s in 50 starts, 17 of which were inside the top five.

IMSA preview: Cadillac swings into Watkins Glen

Cadillac V-Series.R coming off second win in four GTP races, good showing at Le Mans

DETROIT (June 20, 2023) – Cadillac Racing seeks to continue its positive vibes flowing this weekend at Watkins Glen International following a double podium finish in the last IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.

The No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, carved through the Grand Touring Prototype field from its sixth starting spot and won the 2-hour, 40-minute race at Laguna Seca. The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims placed third.

Cadillac has won two of the four IMSA GTP races and paces the Manufacturer Championship entering the six-hour race on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen International road course.

Both sets of drivers are coming off competition in the Hypercar class of the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans in which Bourdais and van der Zande, joined by six-time INDYCAR champion Scott Dixon, secured fourth place overall in the 62-car field. The sister No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R – a full-time FIA World Endurance Championship entry – claimed Cadillac’s first podium finish in the iconic endurance race.

In 2022, Bourdais and van der Zande drove to a third-place finish at The Glen.

Derani and Sims will team with Jack Aitken for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. They combined for victory in the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March and co-drove to 10th place in the Hypercar class at Le Mans in the No. 311 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R.

Peacock will stream flag-to-flag coverage of the race in the U.S. starting at 10:30 a.m. ET, with IMSA.com/TVLive providing streaming coverage outside the U.S. USA Network will telecast the race from 2-5 p.m. ET. Qualifying and the race will be broadcast on IMSA.com and RadioLeMans.com, with SiriusXM live broadcast of the race on XM 207 and Web/App 992 starting at 10:30 a.m.

What they’re saying

No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R

Renger van der Zande: “Watkins Glen is one of the better tracks in a six-hour race. It’s a track where you really get tired because of the high G loads and the track has a lot of grip. It is the first time we’ll be there with the Cadillac V-Series.R car, so that will be interesting how we set up the car. I was in the Dallara simulator this week to see if we can benefit for the weekend. There always seems to be a red flag because there is often rain on at least one of the days, so we’ll see what it brings this year. We had some practice in the rain at Le Mans, so hopefully we can benefit from when we go back to IMSA racing. We’re the winners from the last race so obviously that’s motivating.”

Sebastien Bourdais: “A lot of things have happened in the last few weeks — the win at Laguna Seca and a strong performance from the whole Cadillac group at Le Mans. With all the adversity we had throughout the week and the race itself, that we finished the race and finished fourth is a credit to the entire team and Cadillac. Going into Watkins Glen, it is an intense race on a very intense track. High speed, mega commitment with quite a bit of momentum. Hopefully, we can build on the form we had at Le Mans and Laguna and the progress we’ve made over the last few weeks. The weather can be a wild factor in that race, so it’s going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. On top of it, we have the medium hot temperature Michelin tire for that weekend, which is the hard from Le Mans. Overall, pretty happy where we are at and looking forward to the challenge.”

No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R

Jack Aitken: “Looking forward to getting back into IMSA racing after our trip to Le Mans with the team. I think we learned a lot from that trip and there are some lessons that we can bring to IMSA, which is quite exciting. A six-hour race compared to 24 hours is going to feel like a sprint. Probably just one time in the car for each driver. Watkins Glen is a new track for me and it will be a challenge with the amount of cars starting the race, so we’ll be working our way through traffic the whole time. We don’t have a lot of practice time, so we’ll have to learn fast and make good decisions during those sessions. I’m looking forward to driving what looks like an exciting, fast-flowing track. I think it will suit the car well.”

Pipo Derani: “Happy to come back to Watkins Glen. It’s a very fast and enjoyable track to drive and also part of the endurance championship where we are also fighting at the top. It will be, as usual, a demanding race and I am looking forward to be back in IMSA after having the pleasure to race at Le Mans with our team. Hoping we can get back on victory lane as we did in Sebring and continue our fight for the endurance and overall championship.”

Alexander Sims: “Looking forward to Watkins Glen. Having completed the Le Mans 24-hour race, we got a lot of really useful information to develop and verify some of the systems on the car, the engine management software seems to be going in a good direction. And it was good to get a lot of laps to get a good feel for the car. It’s always difficult with some of the short weekends. You go from one practice session to the next doing short runs and short runs and then you’re in the race without a lot of time to get on top of things, so the Le Mans week was good for that. The car felt really good in the Porsche curves at Le Mans and we’ll see similar medium and high speed corners at Watkins, so hopefully that will play to our advantage. It’s my first time there in a prototype so it will be a challenge in short practice sessions. I’m hopeful we can get a good result and continue our form in IMSA.”

Richard Boswell (Photo credit: HHP/Harold Hinson)

Richard Boswell Moves to Crew Chief for Chase Briscoe and No. 14 Cup Series Team;
Davin Restivo Replaces Boswell as Crew Chief for Riley Herbst and No. 98 Xfinity Series Team;
John Klausmeier Transitions to SHR’s Vehicle Performance Group

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 20, 2023) – Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) has made select organizational changes to its crew chief lineup that will be in effect beginning with the upcoming Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway race weekend June 24-25.

Richard Boswell, the main steward of SHR’s NASCAR Xfinity Series program since its inception in 2017, is now the crew chief for driver Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 team in the NASCAR Cup Series. Boswell had been the crew chief for SHR’s No. 98 Xfinity Series team and driver Riley Herbst. Boswell won eight Xfinity Series races with Briscoe over a three-year span (2018-2020), including an impressive six-win campaign in 2020, before becoming the crew chief for Herbst in 2021.

John Klausmeier, the former crew chief for the No. 14 team, remains at SHR and has transitioned to the company’s vehicle performance group.

Replacing Boswell as crew chief for the No. 98 Xfinity Series team is Davin Restivo. Since 2022, Restivo has been the lead engineer for the No. 10 team and driver Aric Almirola in the Cup Series. Prior to his time with the No. 10 outfit, Restivo was the lead engineer for driver Cole Custer, first in the Xfinity Series (2019) and then moving up with Custer to the Cup Series (2020-2021). Before joining SHR in 2019, Restivo was an engineer at Chip Ganassi Racing.

“We made these changes in the best interests of the entire organization,” said Greg Zipadelli, chief competition officer, SHR. “Different people in new positions brings new perspectives. There’s still a lot of racing left to do this year, which means there’s still a lot of opportunity. We need to seize these opportunities and make the most of them, and fresh perspectives from the top of the pit box to the preparation inside the shop will help us do that.”

How To Handle Insurance Disputes After a Personal Injury

Injuries resulting from car accidents, slip and fall cases, or medical malpractice can be costly. It not only brings about physical pain but also leads to emotional and financial stress. In the state of Alabama, a traffic collision was reported at an alarming frequency of approximately every 3 minutes and 55 seconds throughout the year 2020. Furthermore, within that same year, there were 853 fatal crashes, resulting in the tragic loss of 932 lives. The city of Florence, for instance, accounted for many of these accidents. When you are injured due to someone’s negligence, you could pursue compensation for expenses such as medical bills, lost wages, or property damage through an insurance claim.

If you happen to live in Florence and have sustained injuries due to someone else’s negligence, you must consider speaking with reputable Florence personal injury lawyers. However, there could be instances where you may reach a deadlock with the insurance company on your claim settlement. In the post below, we will outline some steps on how to handle insurance disputes after personal injuries.

Familiarize Yourself with Your Insurance Policy

It is important that when filing a personal injury claim with your insurer, you familiarize yourself with your policy documents thoroughly before submitting any dispute settlement requests.

Understanding what coverage limits apply to your case could save you time in getting answers regarding possible outcomes of different forms of legal support.

Seek Professional Legal Assistance

Typically, after sustaining an injury due to someone else’s carelessness, a personal injury attorney would be able to represent and litigate against your insurance company.

Insurance companies would always try to minimize their responsibility by offering lowball figures or denying claims altogether; hence representation from experienced lawyers helps in increasing settlement amounts for both compensatory and punitive damages.

Conduct Investigations and Provide Evidence

During an Insurance Settlement dispute, it’s crucial that sufficient evidence is provided that supports your side of the argument during proceedings.

Proofs like Witness Statements, Medical Reports showing costs incurred as a result of injuries sustained are essential elements most lawful court systems consider before assessing if compensation should be awarded under the law. Providing all available data immediately increases the chances of winning case hearings.

Keep Track Of All Insurance Communication Record Keeping

The legal process could take some time. Whenever communicating via telephone call or mail, outline details about every discussion since this provides tangential records demonstrating transparency. If needed during hearings, this acts as proof along litigation timelines.

Avoid Signing Anything Without Seeking Professional Legal Advice

Following an accident, it is customary for insurance companies to reach out to the injured party, presenting them with settlement proposals or seeking information regarding the incident. However, it is crucial to exercise caution when dealing with such correspondence, as some of these documents may contain provisions that release the insurer from any payment obligations. It is highly advisable to seek legal counsel before signing any papers, as overlooking such clauses could significantly impact the amount of compensation sought in a claim.

Take Time to Evaluate all Options Available

During insurance disputes, conversations can often be emotionally taxing and frustrating for all parties involved. However, taking time out to go through your legal options becomes imperative since it provides an opportunity of arriving at a well-informed, rational outcome that makes sense.

Document any Additional Expenditures Incurred

Settlements provided by an insurer may come as single payouts. However, ensuring that additional expenses arising from the injuries, such as medical treatments, should be correctly recorded because they will form part of expected compensation agreements.

Conclusion

When settling personal injury claims, every claim is unique; thus, there are no real guarantees regarding how disputes will ever be resolved between individuals injured due to another party’s negligence.

It is of utmost importance to conduct thorough research on the legal representative you are planning to hire. Additionally, proper documentation of medical records and any other losses suffered by the individuals involved plays a vital role in facilitating the desired reimbursement process following an injury.

Overall, handling insurance disputes after personal injury incidents may be frustrating and time-consuming. However, following the steps outlined above makes the process less burdensome.
