Chevrolet Captures GT Le Mans Manufacturers Championship

Comes on the heels of Corvette Racing taking the GTLM Drivers, Team titles

SEBRING, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2020) – Chevrolet claimed the GT Le Mans Manufacturers title in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship today after the Corvette C8.R started the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. This is Chevrolet’s 13th Manufacturers title in IMSA GT competition since 2001 and concludes the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8.R’s inaugural season.

Corvette Racing fielded two of the new Corvette C8.Rs in the 2020 WeatherTech Championship. Antonio Garcia, Jordan Taylor and the No. 3 Corvette Racing team clinched the GTLM Drivers and Team championships two weeks ago at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

“The first season for the Corvette C8.R has shattered all of our expectations,” said Mark Reuss, GM president. “The success of the Corvette Racing team wouldn’t be possible without the close link between the crew and the Corvette engineering team. It has been great to watch these two teams work closely together to learn from each other. I can’t wait to see what next season brings.”

The mid-engine C8.R and 2020 Corvette Stingray were developed simultaneously, and the race car and production vehicle share more technology and parts than any previous-generation Corvette. When initial Corvette C8.R design and development work began more than five years ago, Corvette Racing engineers worked closely alongside Corvette production personnel. Within the last 18 months, track testing began with a heavy emphasis on wind tunnel and simulation testing.

Chevrolet swept the three full-season GTLM titles for the third time in five years. This is only the second time that a first-year Corvette race car has won an IMSA championship. In 2005, Corvette C6.R won American Le Mans Series championship during its first season.

Corvette Racing captured six victories leading into Sebring. Garcia and Taylor gave the Corvette C8.R its first victory at Daytona International Speedway in July, Corvette Racing’s 100th IMSA win. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the next race in the No. 4 Corvette C8.R with Garcia and Taylor in second – the first 1-2 finish for the C8.R.

In addition, the Corvette C8.R has claimed seven pole positions and posted fastest GTLM race lap at five events.

TPC Racing Makes Six Podium Appearances on Friday at Sebring in IMSA Single-Make Championship Finale

Efrin Castro Ended the Season With Victory and as the Runner-up in IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA

SEBRING, Florida (November 14, 2020) – TPC Racing ended the 2020 IMSA single-make season on Friday with four races, six podium finishes, two Hard Charger awards and a runner-up finish in the final season-long championship standings in a busy day at Sebring International Raceway.

The IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo each ended their seasons with single-day doubleheaders, each running a morning and afternoon round on Friday the 13th.

Efrin Castro earned two podiums, including his sixth win of the season, and finished second in the driver’s championship as well as boosting TPC Racing to the same position in the team championship. Vernon McClure earned a Yokohama Hard Charger and a top-five finish, and Dan Hardee posted a strong run in race two after a setup change.

Though the team added a Lamborghini Super Trofeo program late in the season, the crew pulled off a heroic effort to get the No. 38 Lamborghini Sterling/TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO driven by Scott Schmidt and Trevor Andrusko on course for Friday’s races. An electrical issue plagued the car during qualifying, and the team crew and Lamborghini Squadra Corsa engineers worked to diagnose the issue. The TPC Racing crew was on site until four a.m. and returned at 7:30, finally firing up the No. 38 after finding and replacing a single crimped wire just 20 minutes into the first race.

The Lamborghini Sterling cars moved to the AM class for the first time, including the debut of Moritz Kranz co-driving with Tom Kerr in the No. 74 Lamborghini Sterling/GotVeins?.com Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA

Castro’s No. 65 Fine Fare Supermarkets Porsche 911 GT3 Cup started second in the Gold Cup and jumped quickly to the lead, holding the lead until the final lap despite challenges from polesitter Richard Edge throughout the race. Castro lost the lead in Turn 1 on the final lap, then made one last effort to score a win going side by side into Turn 10. Castro was unable to make the pass, but held on for second place in Gold Cup and turned the quickest lap of the race in 2:12.072 (101.944 mph).

McClure joined Castro in the podium celebration, earning the race’s Yokohama Hard Charger. Starting 15th on the grid, McClure made a pass in the No. 10 Main Street Homes Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for fifth in class with just six minutes to go, and then inherited an extra position for fourth when a car pulled to pit lane with just three minutes to go. More importantly, McClure’s quickest lap during the race puts him 11th overall on the Race Two grid, and fifth in Platinum Cup Masters.

Castro’s season ended in the afternoon race the same way it began – with a win. Using the early race as motivation, Castro pulled away from the Gold Cup field and never looked back, leading the entire race distance. For good measure, Castro crossed the stripe just in front of Hardee’s Platinum Cup Masters No. 69 Vbar Live/TPC Racing Porsche, earning Castro the Yokohama Hard Charger as well as the win.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo

With repairs ongoing to Schmidt and Andrusko’s car at the start of the race, Moritz and Kerr appeared to have the best shot a class podium. Moritz began the race, marching as high as third overall during the pit stop window before handing the car over to Kerr. Kerr was able to bring the car home for his best career Lamborghini Super Trofeo finish, earning a second in the AM class and sharing the podium with his teammates.

The No. 38 car was ready to go at the start of the afternoon race, and neither Kerr nor Schmidt were able to run with the class leader. They were, however, locked in an intramural battle with each other until coming to pit lane for the mandatory stop.

With Andrusko now behind the wheel, the No. 38 car left pit lane first and held a 25 second lead on Kranz in the No. 74. Kranz used Andrusko as a carrot, slowly reeling him in over the final 25 minutes of the race. While Kranz was running lap times equivalent to the overall leaders, Andrusko wasn’t far behind and the team of Andrusko and Schmidt took their turn with a second-place finish, followed by Kerr and Kranz.

Harris Levitas, Director of Race Operations: “It all came down to one day here. The 38 car was fastest off the truck, but then had some electrical gremlins bite them. Fortunately, we were able to get the assistance from Lamborghini, Chris Ward and the whole Squadra Corsa team. That’s the best trackside service that we’ve ever received. To have guys stay here until 9:30 at night to give us tech support, and then after that, for Chris Ward to come back around midnight and open the truck to get the parts we needed to get the car on the grid today, that’s service above and beyond. I just can’t thank that group enough. Tom Kerr and Moritz Kranz came in together for the first time, and it was the first time Tom had ever done anything like that. We ended up second and third. To finish the year like that for the Lamborghini Sterling/TPC Racing team, it was incredible.

“In Porsche GT3 Cup, I’m incredibly proud of Efrin Castro and the performance he’s been able to put on this season. He’s a driver that has grown so much, to finish second in the championship and it come down to the last race of the year is just terrific. He’s done everything he could to get himself up there. I’m just ecstatic for Vernon. He did a terrific job. He had some great races out there. We were in a three-way battle for third, and I think some of the traffic held up Vernon a bit. He overcame a bit of that, but he had to miss most of the season this year with the revised schedule. He didn’t get to drive as much as he wanted and I’m so happy for how he handled himself. Dan made some big changes for race two today, and that helped him get more competitive. Overall, it was a challenging but really great event for TPC Racing.”

Efrin Castro, Driver, No. 65 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “I’m very, very happy that everthing came out the way it did. I gave it a lot. We all put a lot of effort into it. It just comes down to when it’s for you, it’s for you, and when it’s not, it’s not. We had times when we took the lead in the championship, and then we lost it. Even at the end, we still had a chance until the last race. That’s how close it was. I’m very proud of what we have done as a team, I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of my family. I’m proud of everyone that helped contribute to a successful year. We did learn a lot. I feel like I learned the most I’ve ever progressed in any season of my life, not only on the race track, but outside.”

Moritz Kranz, Driver, No. 74 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO: “For me, it was the first time racing at Sebring and also the first time working with the Lambo. In the end, I think we’ll take a lot from the weekend. Now we know what direction to go with the car, and I also know how to help Tom and improve his performance. I think the weekend was very good to learn and to improve for next season. That was the goal and I think we met that goal. It was a good weekend.”

Trevor Andrusko, Driver, No. 38 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO: “We got here and practice one was good. We were fourth overall and first in class. So we ended the day on a high note and got here on day two and immediately started having electrical issues. The car was going into limp mode every corner and we weren’t able to qualify where we’d typically qualify because we couldn’t get any clean laps. I can’t thank Lamborghini enough. We wouldn’t have found the problems that we found without everyone’s help. It’s been one of those up and down weekends, for sure. Even when we got here this morning, we weren’t sure if we were going to be racing at all and we ended up with a double podium. It’s definitely a team effort this time, and every single person involved made it happen.”

Scott Schmidt, Driver, No. 38 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO: “On Wednesday, we were able to do some solid testing. On Thursday, the electrical problems started popping up. We worked on those gremlins into the night, and then into the morning. It still wasn’t fixed going into the race. We got it out 21 minutes behind the start and still got a podium and then did it again in this afternoon race. It was absolutely epic, epic weekend for the way it started on Thursday.”

Dan Hardee, Driver, No. 69 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “There’s bumps, there’s rain, there’s tire degredation, there’s puddles, it’s hot. In the end, we changed the setup on race two and I was able to hang with everybody in the field. It really helped me turn in for all the corners, and it was really nice to be able to race with the whole pack and hang with everyone. Thanks to Vbar, Riverside Café, Student Wireless, Michelin Wiper blades and Method7 Eyewear, for their support.”

Moorespeed and Riley Dickinson Close Out 2020 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup USA by Yokohama Season with Sebring Race Win and Second in Platinum Cup Championship

SEBRING, Florida (November 14, 2020) – Moorespeed and team driver Riley Dickinson fought to the end of the 2020 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama racing season at Sebring International Raceway, scoring one race win and a runner-up finish in Friday’s doubleheader finale and securing second place in the 2020 Platinum Cup championship standings.

Dickinson, 18, and Moorespeed started the day by racing to their fourth win of the season in the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in Friday’s first 45-minute sprint on the legendary Sebring road course.

“To be able to come out of the last weekend of the year with a win is always good, so I can’t complain about that,” Dickinson said. “I can’t thank Moorespeed enough for what they’ve done this year. I wouldn’t be here without them, and I can’t say enough about the entire operation.”

Dickinson raced to the lead after the first lap of Friday’s second and season-ending 45-minute sprint and had a mid-race battle with 2020 Platinum Cup Champion Jeff Kingsley. The main players all season-long in the Platinum Cup points race, Dickinson and Kingsley battled side-by-side for the better part of a lap on the 3.74-mile circuit in a fitting end to the season.

“We got a win this morning and would have loved to finish out the season with another, but it wasn’t meant to be,” said Moorespeed President David Moore. “We still raced hard the whole way. It was good and clean. They’re competitive as hell and it’s been like that all year long. Riley didn’t give up. I thought we had a chance all the way up until the end. That’s all you can ask for. I’m really proud of his effort and we’ll get them next year.”

Dickinson and Moorespeed wrapped up their second season together, earning victories at Road America, on two different weekends of competition at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and today at Sebring. The wins were part of a record of 14 top-three finishes in the year’s 16 races.

“It’s funny, because it’s all about perspective,” Dickinson said. “If you had told me two years ago that we were going to finish second in the championship and get four wins and 14 total podiums, I would have been ecstatic. We still wanted that extra step, but overall, you can’t be too disappointed in it because at the end of the day, even when the results weren’t there, I was able to develop as a driver and learn so much this season. From that standpoint, this season was invaluable for me and we’ll just keep moving one step at a time.”

Sheehan and Damon Racing Seek Double Atlanta Rebound

Bow, NEW HAMPSHIRE – November 14, 2020 – Tom Sheehan and the Damon Racing team head down to Braselton, Georgia next week for the Road Atlanta Grand Prix and Rounds 8 and 9 of the 2020 Trans Am presented by Pirelli TA2 Class Championship. Points and a top result are very much the focus and the event offers two opportunities for the Granite State team to score down south. After being wiped out at Circuit of The Americas through no fault of his own, ‘Iron Man’ Tom was understandably sanguine when we spoke to him this week, “I just keep reminding myself racing is fun and I love it,” He said. Tom also paid tribute to the very dedicated team supporting him when he added, “I love my guys. [Damon Racing]. We are hungry, and we’re just going to keep digging to get a result. Road Atlanta is the next stop.”

The disappointing outcome at COTA means that Tom slipped out of the top ten for the first time this season, but while results haven’t always gone his way, an overall P11 out of 49 contenders puts him in the upper echelon of the TA2 field. Tom gets two chances to get back into the top ten at Road Atlanta, with the weekend following the same format as was the case in Virginia. An all class race takes place on the Sunday afternoon as well as the usual, class delineated races on the Saturday.

Now celebrating its 54th anniversary, Trans Am has a long history at Road Atlanta. John Morton won a 2.5-liter race in 1972 in a Datsun 510, while Peter Gregg defeated Al Holbert – running his first professional race – in the 1973 season-opening event, driving a pair of Porsche Carreras. The Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is a 2.54-mile road course located just north of Braselton, Georgia. The track has 12 turns, including the famous “esses” between Turns 3 and 5; and Turn 12, a downhill, diving turn. In 2019 the track became Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta after Michelin and Owners IMSA Holdings announced their new naming rights agreement.

In a long weekend when all the cars will see plenty of track time, the action for the TA2 Class competitors gets underway on Thursday, November 19 with a test session in the afternoon at 4pm. On Friday there is official practice in the morning at 11:30am and then the all important qualifying session at 4:40pm on the same afternoon.

The first race, TA2 only and powered by AEM, is at 3:55pm on Saturday. Sunday’s race will begin with a three way split start at 12pm. Keep up with Trans Am driver Tom Sheehan on social media – Facebook page is Damon Racing, Instagram @TomSheehanTA97 and Twitter @TomTA2_97.

Team Hardpoint EBM Joint Venture Expands 2021 Portfolio to Include Full-Season IMSA GT Daytona Entry with Earl Bamber and Rob Ferriol Behind the Wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R

Team Hardpoint EBM Also Unveils Incentive Program for Team’s Carrera Cup Drivers to Advance Racing Careers

SEBRING, Florida (November 14, 2020) – Under the banner of the previously announced joint venture between Team Hardpoint and Earl Bamber Motorsport, Team Hardpoint will return to principal Rob Ferriol’s roots for the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) season. In addition to the recently unveiled 2021 Carrera Cup North America program, Team Hardpoint EBM will enter a Porsche 911 GT3 R in a full-season 2021 effort with Ferriol and current Porsche factory driver Earl Bamber taking driving duties.

Bamber’s record behind the wheel of a Porsche is impeccable. The New Zealand-native and Team Hardpoint EBM co-principal is the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech GT Le Mans class champion, a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship point champion. Bamber became available when the Porsche GT Team reached the conclusion of its successful IMSA run following the 2020 season.

“It’s really exciting to see the partnership between Team Hardpoint and Earl Bamber Motorsport expand into GTD,” Earl Bamber said. “As a team owner, I’m very proud to see all of our hard work come to fruition. As a driver, I’m thrilled to stay in IMSA next year. I love the tracks, I love the competition and I love the fans. I’m going to do my best to get Rob and Team Hardpoint EBM some wins in 2021.”

Ferriol began his racing career as a member of the Porsche Club of America, participating in club racing and track day events around the U.S., then moved to IMSA’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA just a short two seasons ago. The lessons learned in those two seasons helped lay a foundation for the move to the GTD class, and, after a rookie season behind the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS GT3, will see him return to those Porsche roots in 2021.

“This is an exciting chapter not just for Team Hardpoint EBM, but also for me personally,” Ferriol said. “I’ve loved Porsches since long before I could afford one. When my business started to see some success a few years ago, the first gift I bought myself was a used Porsche 911. The first time I was on a racetrack, and the first time I went racing – both Porsches. So to have this opportunity to not only expand the Team Hardpoint EBM partnership into the WeatherTech series, but also share driving duties in the Porsche 911 GT3 R is a dream come true.

“When Porsche announced that the IMSA GTLM program was coming to a close, I was among the many Porsche enthusiasts who were losing their rooting interest. Hopefully, Earl and I can give those very passionate fans another Porsche to root for next year.”

Team Hardpoint EBM had previously announced a joint venture for a multi-car customer program in the recently unveiled Porsche Carrera Cup North America single make series. With the team’s move to the Porsche 911 GT3 R, Team Hardpoint EBM will now offer an incentive program for Team Hardpoint EBM drivers in the single-make Porsche championship.

Any Team Hardpoint EBM Carrera Cup driver who finishes the season in the top three of the point championship in the Pro or Pro-Am category will earn a free test day in the Team Hardpoint Porsche 911 GT3 R. For the ultimate prize, a Team Hardpoint EBM driver who wins the 2021 Pro category championship in Carrera Cup North America will also earn a paid seat with Team Hardpoint EBM in the 2022 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

“There’s nothing better than throwing it all out there and backing your own product,” Team Hardpoint EBM Team Manager and co-principal Will Bamber said. “Porsche has done that and we’re right behind them. With our joint venture Team Hardpoint EBM, it’s exciting to have that whole pyramid contained with our team. Porsche allows us to do that. We believe that we should be reinvesting back into the sport and in our own customers, to give them an opportunity forward beyond the trophy at the end of the year. Earl and I coming up, as young guys, both got opportunities. We had to push for it, but it was done by reward and merit and you just need that chance sometimes. Through the team car in GTD, we can do that. It’s something we’ve been trying to do globally and it should be an exciting program for all young drivers who are trying to make it as a professional.”

The 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opens with the Roar Before the 24 test, January 22-24, and the Rolex 24 At Daytona just one week later, January 28-31. The provisional schedule for the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup North America marks the opener at Sebring International Raceway, March 17-20.

Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing Continues Winning Tradition at Sebring International Raceway

Sebring, FL. (November 13, 2020) The Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing team came to Rounds 9 & 10 of the North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo at Sebring International Raceway with a clear goal of continuing its momentum from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. With a race win and three podiums secured, the season finale for the one-make series marks another multi-race-winning season for the team.

In the first race of the weekend, the team and its drivers were off to a fast start. In the PRO class, Stevan McAleer moved up to third in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini on the opening lap, while Eric Curran, making a return to the series with William Hubbell in the No. 69 Hubbell Racing Lamborghini, grabbed second place in the PRO|AM class. After finishing on the podium, a fortnight ago at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Ashton Harrison started the race in the No. 25 Harrison Contracting in the PRO|AM class, moving up to third by the end of the first lap. In the LB Cup class, Sydney McKee would hold a strong third place in the opening stages of the race in the No. 87 FaDa Racing Lamborghini.

As the pit window opened up at the 20-minute mark, the action started heating up in the bumpy concrete jungle. In the No. 1 Prestige Performance car for the final stint, Stuart Middleton enjoyed several fantastic battles that saw a scrap for third place in the PRO class come down to the final lap. Middleton did a tremendous job to maintain position, crossing the line in third.

In PRO|AM, Andrea Amici took the wheel of the No. 25 Harrison Contracting machine from Ashton Harrison, putting on a fantastic display after a solid opening stint from Harrison. Amici showed his determination, moving his way from third and grabbing the lead with three minutes to go, never looking back to take their first win of the 2020 season for the American-Italian driver duo.

Back in the Lamborghini SuperTrofeo, William Hubbell took the wheel of the No. 69 Hubbell Racing Lamborghini for the final stint in the PRO|AM class, crossing the line fourth after a solid effort from he and co-driver Eric Curran. Syndey McKee put on a marvelous charge in the late stages of the LB Cup class, grabbing second place with 19 minutes remaining, but ultimately finishing the race in third after a thrilling battle.

In the second race of the weekend and the last race of the season, Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing were determined to put on another strong showing. Making the most of qualifying on pole position in the PRO|AM category, Andrea Amici made a lighting start in the No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini to grab commanding lead. Unfortunately for the Italian, a mistake under braking in Sebring’s treacherous Turn 17 spun the car around, dropping the race leader to fourth. As the pit window opened, Amici brought the car to the pits, handing the car to Ashton Harrison. Putting together yet another measured drive, Harrison would maintain fourth place to finish out the 2020 season for the duo.

In the PRO class, Stuart Middleton started fifth in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini, but quickly made his way to fourth, a position he would hold until the mandatory pit stop. Jumping in the car for his final stint of the 2020 season, Stevan McAleer would bring the car home in fourth. Sydney McKee had another inspired drive in the No. 87 FaDa Racing Lamborghini, starting third and finishing fourth, capping off an impressive rookie campaign in the North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Back in the series for the first time in 2020, William Hubbell and Eric Curran had a clean run in the No. 69 Hubbell Racing Lamborghini, starting fourth and finishing fifth.

Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing concludes the season second in the Dealer Championship and third in the Team Championship standings. Stevan McAleer and Stuart Middleton finished fourth in the PRO Driver Championship. Drivers of the No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Super Trofeo car, Ashton Harrison and Andrea Amici, round out the season in third place while Sydney McKee clinched a second-place finish in the LB Cup Driver Championship.

With the 2020 North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo season now concluded, the attention now shifts to the 2021. Announcements about driver lineups for the new year will be announced in due course.

Race #1
“Really happy with that result, it’s the best the car has felt all year. The pace of the pace of the car right out of the box was great and I was really impressed. The car came alive three or four laps into the race. We had a great race car today. Stuart did a phenomenal job at the end of the race while he was racing with the No. 16 car and we finished third and we certainly had to work for it. “

Race #2
“I wanted to first start off and say thank you Wayne Taylor Racing for a great season. I can put it on my resume that I drove for Wayne Taylor Racing for a full season now. It’s nice to be paired up with another Pro as Stuart did an amazing job this year. It was a really good pairing because he didn’t really know the tracks and I didn’t really know the car, so we worked well helping each other out. Last race of the year we were trying to squeeze a podium, but after that pit stop, we just didn’t have any rear tire on whatsoever. We couldn’t catch up, so fourth place today and the championship.”

Stuart Middleton, No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO)
Race #1
“That was a hell of a race today. I had so much fun fighting for third place. We had a really great car this time around and by far the happiest I’ve felt all season with the car. I felt that I could push on and take the fight to the other guys in front. Just after the pit stop straight out of the box it took us some laps to get back to pace, but as soon as the car came back into it I was pushing on and giving it everything I could. I’m very happy to take the final podium spot.”

Race #2
“it’s the end of the season already and I just wish it was still going. This race was a lot of fun. The car was absolutely mega and the changes we made from practice and qualifying were absolutely spot on. The guys did an absolute fantastic job on the setup change calls and by far I’ve felt with the car all season. It was an interesting race, I managed to get a couple of guys on the start and I battled my way through as best that I could. Unfortunately, by the time I made my way through the front three guys had made quite a significant gap. Nonetheless I still pushed on and gave it my absolute all. By the time I caught third position I had to dive in for a pit stop. We gave it everything we absolutely could and there was nothing left on the table this year. Thank you to everyone at Wayne Taylor Racing this year and fingers crossed we come back stronger as a team next year.”

Ashton Harrison, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Super Trofeo (AM)
Race #1
“Race one was really good for Andrea and I as we finally won! All year we’ve been working up to something like this. I’m proud of our team and Harrison Contracting for being able to help us get there and this win is for them. I’m really looking forward to Race 2 this afternoon in order to close the season out with another win. This year has been so great for us and I’m really looking forward to what 2021 has to offer and I can’t thank Wayne Taylor Racing enough and Shawn Ford for all the hard work he puts in for us.”

Race #2
“It’s the end to the 2020 season and it’s a shame because I really enjoyed this year with Wayne Taylor Racing and Andrea in our Harrison Contracting Lamborghini. It was a good year. Overall, we had a lot of progress and we got our first win and had several poles. We were a very competitive car. Bigger picture we had a great season. I’m looking forward to potentially spending more time with Wayne Taylor Racing in the future and I can’t wait to more.”

Andrea Amici, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (PRO)
Race #1
“It was a great race. Ashton started out well and she was with the pros in the beginning. When I took the car, there was a big gap and I tried to do everything to close the gap. After a nice fight we ended up winning the race. It’s nice to win here because my first time with Wayne Taylor Racing was in Sebring in 2015.”

Race #2
“We had a good stop and I was leading the race with a big gap. In the last corner I lost the rear and I completely lost it. Then when I continued to drive the rear was so light compared to before. The car was good today and we will do better next year.”

Eric Curran, No. 69 Hubbell Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (PRO)
“It’s fun to be back with Wayne Taylor Racing. Wayne and I talk about driving together all the time and it’s just fun to be back. I’ve done a few races with Wayne Taylor Racing in the Super Trofeo and it’s a lot of fun. The No. 69 Hubbell Racing car was pretty decent today and we fought it more in the afternoon than this morning. We had a solid and fast race car this morning and had a good run. It’s tricky to jump back in and do a one-off race for William and me. Love being back and being back with the guys, Wayne has put together a fantastic program and I would love to do it again, I would love to do a full season.

Sydney McKee, No 87 FaDa Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (LB Cup)
Race #1
“It was an actually really good race, Matt Dickens unfortunately put me into a compromised position, and he was able to get around me and I wasn’t able to get the position back on the final couple of laps that I had. Overall it was a really good battle with really good lap times. Lots of good things to carry into the next race this afternoon.”

Race #2
“Not the best race but it was exactly what we needed for the championship. I was able to finish second in the race which should put me in second in the championship. Overall it’s been an amazing season full of learning experiences and my first IMSA win.”

Stoner Car Care Racing Closes Out 2020 Season at Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. (13 November 2020) – The Stoner Car Care Racing fielded by Automatic Racing team had hoped to finish the season on a high note in the last of three home races for the Orlando-based team this year, as the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge took the checkered flag Friday in the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 at Sebring International Raceway.

Unfortunately, issues for both Aston Martin Vantage GT4s in the first pit stop sequence dashed those hopes, despite valiant efforts by Rob Ecklin Jr. and Ramin Abdolvahabi in the No. 09 Stoner Car Care Aston Martin, and Gary Ferrera and Kris Wilson in the No. 99 Invisible Glass Aston Martin. The No. 09 Aston Martin came home in 18th while the No. 99 finished 20th.

The race weekend, part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, began under the threat of Hurricane Eta, whose path held prospects of rain which affected the mid-Florida area. But the expected rain never materialized, leaving Thursday’s practice and qualifying sessions in warm and dry conditions. Abdolvahabi and Ferrera qualified the cars together on Row Nine of the starting grid.

The cars remained nose-to-tail for much of the early going, with Ferrera glued to the rear wing of Abdolvahabi. The pair were able to move up to P6 and P7 when a full course caution froze the field as several cars took to pit lane. Abdolvahabi and Ferrera came in for their own stops and driver changes late in the 15-minute caution period as Ecklin and Wilson each took the wheel with 1:18 remaining in the race.

Unfortunately, issues befell both cars during the pit stop sequence. The No. 09 garnered a drive-through penalty for a pit speed violation while the air jack fitting broke on the No. 99, necessitating manual jacking up of the car, and a return to pit lane to adjust the left front. When the dust settled, Ecklin and the No. 09 Aston Martin lay in 21st position, with Wilson and the No. 99 in 22nd.

Both cars laid down competitive times through the remainder of the race, with Wilson pacing quicker laps than the leader as he tried to get back on the lead lap. In the end, both drivers did their best but were not able to dramatically improve their positions as the season drew to a close.

“We made some changes that made the car better, but the platform is still not synced up,” said Abdolvahabi. “But we kept the car on the track and squeezed as much as we could out of it. The guys did a great job in pit lane, they were on it. I messed up which got us the drive through, that one is on me. We’ll take what we’ve learned this year and apply it to 2021. We just need some good luck!”

“I just kept completely focused on the road ahead through my stint, working on lap times, and it was a good, clean run,” said Ferrera. “We had good track position and a great strategy, but we had the air jack problem and that put us down in the field. Kris drove his heart out and put down some amazing times, comma so we did everything we could. The team did a great job, we just had some bad luck. But my favorite part is the teamwork, so I enjoyed getting behind Ramin and trying to do the best lap times we could.”

“Ramin did a nice job qualifying and he and Gary had a nice, clean stint,” said Ecklin. “I was excited to get in the car and continue that. The car has gotten better, but the lap times still aren’t there and I’m not quite sure why. We need to work on that. The penalty hurt us some, but not that much in the end. It was a good race despite that, with only one caution and some good wheel to wheel racing. It’s been a topsy turvy year, on track and off, but I’m happy to have been able to race and hope next year is a more predictable season.”

“Gary and Ramin did an awesome job, running consistent times and staying right there in the game,”” said Wilson. “ It was a good call to come in right at the end of the drive time, until the air jack hose fitting broke. Stuff breaks, but it put us a lap down. We put in some good laps on new tires after that, but we were so far back we couldn’t make it up. It’s a shame, the team did a good job to keep us out there.”

“It definitely wasn’t the way we wanted to end the season,” said team manager David Russell. “We certainly had more to show. We have a short turnaround before the 2021 season starts so with two cars in good shape leaving here, we can work to make them better for Daytona.”

Front Row Start for the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Qualifying Report

Sebring, Fla. (November 13, 2020) The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start the 68th Running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on the front row. Renger van der Zande qualified the car with a fastest lap time of 1.47.125 around the 3.74-mile, 17-turn permanent road course, placing the team second. Full-time co-pilot, Ryan Briscoe, will join van der Zande along with newly crowned six-time INDYCAR Series Champion, Scott Dixon for the 12-hour endurance event. The trio won the Motul Petit Le Mans last month and are looking for a strong finish tomorrow in order to clinch the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship title.

“Sebring is so cool,” commented Renger van der Zande. “We had low fuel, new tires, and a clean track, so we just went for it. We finished second and I think that’s a great start, being on the front row. At the end it’s going to be a long race. Qualifying isn’t that important for a long race, but it shows where you are in terms of the speed of the car compared to the others. I enjoyed this last qualifying session. It’s my last time doing a qualifying with Wayne Taylor Racing, but I made the most out of it and pushed really hard. It’s going to be a long race tomorrow and a lot at stake.”

  2. Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R (No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R) Ryan Briscoe, Renger van der Zande & Scott Dixon (1:47.125 at 125.684 mph)
