Travis Mack named crew chief for Trackhouse Racing Team in 2021

Trackhouse Racing Team announced that Travis Mack will be serving as crew chief for the team’s No. 99 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE team and driver Daniel Suarez for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The announcement comes approximately a week after the 2020 NASCAR season concluded, where Mack is coming off his second full-time season as an Xfinity Series crew chief for Michael Annett and the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro team.

Mack, a native from Louisville, Kentucky, joins Trackhouse Racing with an extensive resume of working on race cars and for racing teams. Starting his career working as a car chief for 10-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel in the early 2000s, Mack joined Hendrick Motorsports in 2005 and worked as a shock specialist. From there, his career blossomed as he was also a member of Hendrick Motorsports’ Nos. 24 and 88 teams before becoming a car chief for JR Motorsports and HMS in 2012-2017, working with names like Regan Smith, Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Mack made his first two appearances as a crew chief late in the 2017 Cup Series season for Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 Chevrolet SS team before being announced as a full-time crew chief for Kasey Kahne and the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team for the 2018 Cup season. Midway through the 2018 season, Mack returned to JR Motorsports to serve as crew chief for Michael Annett and the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro team.

In February 2019, Mack achieved his first win as a crew chief when Annett also achieved his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Daytona International Speedway in February after leading a race-high/final 45 laps of the race. They went on to achieve a total of six top-five results and 19 top-10 results along with a pole as they made the Playoffs, where they concluded the season in ninth place in the final standings.

This past season, Annett and Mack achieved four top-five results and 22 top-10 results as they made the Playoffs before concluding the season in ninth place in the final standings.

The move to Trackhouse Racing will mark Mack’s return to the Cup Series as a crew chief since June 2018 when he was with Kasey Kahne and Leavine Family Racing.

Trackhouse Racing Team is a newly formed NASCAR Cup Series team created by Justin Marks, an entrepreneur and former competitor, that announced its entrance into the sport in October. During the announcement, the team revealed that Daniel Suarez, the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion and Cup Series veteran from Monterrey, Mexico, will be serving as their driver for the 2021 season. The team will be technically aligned with Richard Childress Racing and operate in Welcome, North Carolina. The team is also guaranteed an entry for every Cup race next season after being leased a charter from Spire Motorsports.

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Antonio Garcia Pole Quote

SEBRING, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2020) – Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia claimed his second pole position of the season Friday ahead of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, adding yet another exclamation point to a championship season for the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.

Garcia set a GT Le Mans (GTLM) track record in time trials for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale – 1:55.456 (116.615 mph) in the mid-engine Corvette that he shares will GTLM Drivers co-champion Jordan Taylor as well as Nicky Catsburg.

Tommy Milner qualified the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette fourth in class at 1:56.446 (115.624 mph) and just 0.3 seconds from the front row.

Garcia’s effort was the seventh pole position for Corvette Racing this season and sixth for the No. 3 C8.R. Garcia also claimed pole position for the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, and Taylor captured poles at Sebring in July, Mid-Ohio, Charlotte and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “It was a perfect lap. From yesterday, we flipped around the car a little bit. With not as much track time as in years past, qualifying is almost like practice for us, too. We gambled on something different and it seems to be working. I’m happy with that. The Corvette Racing guys did a fantastic job. It’s been an amazing season. This year I had my first pole at Petit Le Mans and today is my first pole at Sebring. I’m very, very happy for that, too. That defines how 2020 has been for us. Let’s hope we can carry on that way. The C8.R seems to be really good although I’m expecting a lot of close fights with BMW and Porsche. We are starting in the best place, so let’s see what tomorrow brings. It’s not a two-hour, 40-minute one like in July. Tomorrow will the classic race where we finish at night. We’ll see what the new Sebring date brings us.”

WHERE WERE THE GAINS FROM PRACTICE? “It was all around the racetrack. Jordan had a very similar lap here in July, so yesterday I could compare our laps to that one, even though it was almost three seconds faster than what we did yesterday. It gave me a target to know what the car was capable of. We made a big swing on the setup today, but I knew it was possible and that the C8.R could do a 1:55 around here. On the lap, the car felt fast everywhere. This is the fastest I’ve ever been around here. It was cool with zero mistakes and I just nailed it.”

DOES CLINCHING THE GTLM TITLE TAKE PRESSURE OFF FOR THIS WEEKEND? “I’ve always enjoyed this race. Since we found out about the date change, I knew that finishing at Sebring would have been very tough. Fighting for a championship at such a hard event would have been difficult. I’m glad we got it out of the way, and I hope next year we are back to a normal schedule where no one thinks about championships at Sebring! Daytona and Sebring at the beginning of the season, those are big enough races on their own. To put the championship on the line would be super stressful. For sure we will enjoy this weekend. But the rest of the cars in our class are very relaxed too. They’ll go all out to win this race. I can foresee this being an aggressive race but another classic Sebring.”

Aghakhani and Eidson Split Pole Starting Positions in No. 6 SADA Systems US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracán for Friday’s Season-Ending IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Doubleheader at Sebring

SEBRING, Florida (November 13, 2020) – Steven Aghakhani, Jacob Eidson and the No. 6 SADA Systems US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracán team left nothing on the table Thursday with a clean sweep of both pole positions in qualifying for today’s season-ending IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America doubleheader at Sebring International Raceway.

Race one is scheduled to go green today at 9:05 a.m. EST with this afternoon’s season-ending sprint scheduled to follow at 3:40 p.m. EST. Both races can be view live on www.IMSA.com.

“The whole team came out here ready to do what we had to do,” Aghakhani said. “Everyone is out here doing their part, so it’s only fair that the drivers go out and do theirs. We’re excited to come back for the races and see how everything goes Friday.”

The twin pole positions each earned a single championship point for the No. 6 team and drivers, moving them to within 13 points of Pro class leader Madison Snow heading into today’s doubleheader.

Aghakhani turned a best lap of 2:01.933 (110.421 mph) to lock down the race one pole while Eidson followed in race two qualifying with a top lap of 2:02.318 (110.073 mph).

“We really wanted to come here and put some really strong performances in,” Eidson said. “After Practice 1 yesterday, I was cautiously optimistic about qualifying today. We knew we had a chance at pole, but it’s just a matter of going out there and executing, and we did that today. It’s awesome to get pole position. We’re only at the start. We’ve still got tomorrow and that’s what really matters, but it’s a great start.”

The sweep is the second of the season for Aghakhani and Eidson who also locked down the pole positions for both races at VIRginia International Raceway in August. The duo also combined to win pole positions a series-leading six times in this year’s 10 races.

Stoner Car Care Racing Qualifies for IMSA Season Finale

SEBRING, Fla. (12 November 2020) – The Stoner Car Care Racing fielded by Automatic Racing team placed its pair of Aston Martin Vantage GT4s solidly in the final field of the 2020 Michelin Pilot Challenge season on Thursday. The Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 at Sebring International Raceway is set for a green flag start on Friday at 12:00pm ET on TRACKPASS.

The two-car team of Rob Ecklin Jr. and Ramin Abdolvahabi in the No. 09 Stoner Car Care Aston Martin Vantage GT4, and Gary Ferrera and Kris Wilson in the No. 99 Invisible Glass Aston Martin handled the changing weather conditions Thursday to place the pair side-by-side in Row Nine for Friday’s Grand Sport class starting grid.

With Hurricane Eta sidestepping the Sebring area, the team enjoyed dry conditions throughout the day, though skies threatened. The team put the Aston Martins through their paces during two practice sessions on the 3.74-mile, 17-turn former Army airfield, though the early hour of the first practice, under cool and cloudy skies, put the team in a conundrum. The team faced very little rubber on the track after overnight rains and both cars experienced a push, which sent the team back to the garage to make setup changes ahead of practice two in the afternoon on Thursday.

When it came time for practice two Wilson put down a quick lap late in practice to place the No. 99 Aston Martin in 11th, while Abdolvahabi and Ecklin fought a loose condition. Team engineers made more adjustments and the team prepared for the 15-minute qualifying session, taking the green as the sun began to set. Once again, the cars reacted very differently to the changes, with Ferrera settling into the setup quite well while Abdolvahabi found the Aston Martin even more unpredictable. The pair will start together in Row Nine, with each driver putting down their quickest laps of the day – Abdolvahabi with a lap at 2:15.090 and Ferrera with a 2:15.349.

“The car turned better with the setup changes, but the front end was moving too much. We got that handled, and it felt better,” said Ferrera. “It was our quickest lap, and I was very happy with it. I do feel that if I could have put it all together, I could have gained a second, but all in all, I’m good with the car. This is the softer compound tire so tire degradation will be higher, which meanstire management will be key tomorrow.”

“For some reason, the car is reacting very strangely, and I’m finding myself trying to catch up,” said Abdolvahabi. “That was our quickest time of the day but it’s two seconds off what I was hoping for. I’m losing time, so I need to look at the data. The front and rear don’t feel connected: they’re each singing a slightly different tune and that makes the car unsettled in certain turns. Braking and turning is fine, but at the apex, things are going haywire, so we’ll have to figure that out. We’ll just have to go fast tomorrow!”

Part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 takes the green flag Friday at 12:05 p.m. Eastern. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NBC Sports Gold’s TrackPass, while international viewers can watch via IMSA.tv. IMSA Radio will also be available at IMSA.com. NBCSN will broadcast a two-hour race recap on Tuesday, November 24 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern (check local listings).

Moffitt to compete full 2021 Xfinity schedule with Our Motorsports

Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images.

Following a productive 2020 season, Brett Moffitt will be moving up to the NASCAR Xfinity Series and drive a Chevrolet Camaro on a full-time basis with Our Motorsports for the 2021 season.

Moffitt, a 28-year-old native from Grimes, Iowa, is coming off his second full-time season in the NASCAR Truck Series with GMS Racing, where he recorded a single victory (Kansas Speedway in October), 10 top-five results, 16 top-10 results and an average result of 9.7. He was one of four competitors to make the Championship 4 round at Phoenix Raceway, where he finished in fourth place in the final standings.

In addition, Moffitt competed in 29 Xfinity Series races with Our Motorsports in 2020, where he recorded one top-five result, seven top-10 results and an average result of 18.3, with a best on-track result of fifth place at Talladega Superspeedway in June. He contributed to the team’s final owners’ points result of 15th place.

The 2021 season will mark Moffitt’s first full-time campaign in the Xfinity Series after spending the last three seasons as a Truck Series competitor, where he won the 2018 championship with Hattori Racing Enterprises and made the Championship 4 round in his last two seasons with GMS Racing.

Moffitt’s move to full-time racing with Our Motorsports means that he will not be returning to GMS Racing next season.

“[Year] 2020 was a learning year for the entire Our Motorsports operation and the program is now ready to step up to another level,” Moffitt said. “I’m thankful for the last two seasons with GMS Racing and the support Maury Gallagher, Spencer Gallagher, Ron Booth, Mike Beam and the entire team gave me.”

“Brett has been instrumental in helping us build this team from scratch and be competitive,” Chris Our, Owner of Our Motorsports, said. “We’ve challenged each other to turn Our Motorsports into a race-winning organization and we have some exciting things in the works that will help us accomplish that goal together.”

With Moffitt confirmed as a full-time driver for Our Motorsports, Joe Williams will also remain as crew chief for the organization in 2021.

“Our Motorsports has made great strides in 2020 and I’m really excited to carry that momentum into 2021 with Brett Moffitt behind the wheel,” Williams said. “Brett is the kind of driver that makes us better as an organization and I am confident in what we can accomplish together next year.”

Additional details regarding Moffitt’s sponsors and the organization for next season will be announced at a later date.

Hemric lands full-time ride with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2021

Photo by Rachel Schuoler for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Daniel Hemric has a team to call home for the 2021 NASCAR season. That team is Joe Gibbs Racing after it was announced that Hemric will be joining the organization and drive the No. 18 Toyota Supra on a full-time basis in next year’s NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

Hemric, a 29-year-old native from Kannapolis, North Carolina, is coming off a part-time season with JR Motorsports, where he recorded seven top-five results, 12 top-10 results and an average result of 16.2 in 21 starts throughout the 33-race schedule. He also earned a pair of runner-up finishes last season and contributed to JRM’s No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro team finishing in ninth place in the 2020 Xfinity Owners’ standings.

Hemric’s move to JGR next season will mark the third different team he has driven for in the past three seasons. It will also mark his first full-time season in NASCAR since the 2019 Cup Series, where he captured the Rookie-of-the-Year title, and first in the Xfinity Series since 2018.

In two previous full-time seasons in the Xfinity Series with Richard Childress Racing (2017 and 2018), Hemric earned a combined 23 top-five results and 39 top-10 results. He also made the Championship 4 round in both seasons, finishing fourth in the 2017 final standings and third in the 2018 final standings.

With a combined 175 starts across NASCAR’s top three national touring series (50 in the Truck Series, 87 in the Xfinity Series and 38 in the Cup Series), Hemric is still pursuing his first victory.

“It’s been quite a roller coaster ride for me over the last few years, but I can’t say how thankful I am for the opportunity to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing,” Hemric said. “Their reputation speaks for itself. I know they have high expectations for me, as I do as well, and I could not be more excited to chase the Xfinity Series championship with them next season.”

With Hemric set to join JGR, he will be a teammate to Brandon Jones, a three-time race winner of the 2020 Xfinity Series season, and Harrison Burton, the 2020 Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year who won his first four races this past season. This also completes JGR’s full-time Xfinity Series lineup for the 2021 season.

We’re excited to have Daniel join our Xfinity Series team,” Steve de Souza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series and Development for Joe Gibbs Racing, said. “He has proven the ability to run up front and we believe his experience and consistency will be a benefit to our overall program. We look forward to him competing with Brandon [Jones] and Harrison [Burton] for wins and contending for a championship.”

Riley Herbst, who drove the No. 18 Toyota full-time in 2020, will be departing the organization and pursue another opportunity in racing to be announced.

Sponsorship and crew chief details for Hemric will be announced at a later date.

CORVETTE RACING IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Saluting Oliver Gavin

DETROIT (Nov. 12, 2020) – Track action for Corvette Racing at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring begins today, as does the final event weekend for Oliver Gavin as a full-time driver in the program. The Corvette Racing veteran will step away from full-time competition after a 19-year run that has seen him set nearly every record of success in team history.

Gavin and his full-season Corvette Racing teammates – Antonio Garcia, Jordan Taylor and Tommy Milner – give their thoughts on a record-setting career that started, of all places, at Sebring International Raceway in a preseason test ahead of the 2002 season…

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “It’s almost like things are coming full circle. The first place I ever drove a Corvette was at Sebring in November of 2001. That test day is one I’ll always remember. Driving the C5-R out of the pitlane… the noise, the vibration, the rumble and just the physicality of driving that car was extraordinary. The torque from the motor and the delivery was like being in a force of nature in the way that it ripped around the track. Now all of these years on and being in this mid-engine C8.R – with all the downforce, the refinement and all-around feel of a well-refined racecar… it’s a joy to drive it around Sebring. We’ve worked for so many years with partners like Michelin and Mobil 1 that all refined their product and equipment to such a high level now. You know you’re going to get a great product straight out the gate and on the first lap. It’s been an amazing journey. Things will be emotional, for sure. Being with the same team for 19 years, you’d have to have a heart of stone to not feel somewhat emotional about it. But I want to go about and do my job right and well, and finish up with a strong result to get second place in the championship tied up for Tommy and I. Plus it would help to finish off my driving relationship with Tommy on a high note. It would be amazing to stand on that top step one more time.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GAVIN’S TEAMMATE SINCE 2012: “Olly has been the single biggest influence on my time at Corvette Racing. We’ve had nine years as teammates and nine years of really good racing – the best races of my career and the best memories. He’s been an integral part of what you see on the results sheets of the successes I’ve had. His contributions to the team are long and storied. I got my first ALMS win in 2012 in our first season together. I’ll never forget standing there at Long Beach in pitlane, watching the screens and not believing what I was seeing. I had been racing in the series since 2006, and to finally get that first win was completely on him. I brought the car back to the pits in one piece and he did the rest. Having him as a teammate with how fast he is and how experienced he is… to be able to lean on someone like that in a growing year for me was huge. When you look at results and stat sheets, his contributions to Corvette Racing are obvious. On top of that, everything behind the scenes as a teammate is as good if not better than what you see on the track. And he’s maintained that same style and passion to find every tenth of a second that he can and motivating all the guys on the team to get as much out of themselves as they can. There is no doubting his will to win and passion for success.”

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Oliver has been a big influence on me in my career. When I was driving for another manufacturer, Olly and Jan (Magnussen) were the only Europeans at Corvette Racing. Those were the two I really paid attention to. When we started competing against Corvette, I knew Olly was one of their strongest guys. As soon as I saw the opportunity to join Corvette, he was one of my references. I learned from him but also had to fight with him, which at the beginning was a struggle. I was very inexperienced compared to where I am now, and he was amazingly fast. It took a long time for me to match his pace, but slowly and slowly I took the lessons I learned from him; I think in past years we’ve started to learn from each other. Being able to compete together for so long as teammates gives you that opportunity. I feel like we both brought the entire team up.

“One of the things that Olly has – similar to me – is that he is super competitive. That’s why he has been and continues to be so solid now. He’s very professional in the way he prepares for each race. One of the important things I’ve gotten from Olly is the amount of preparation he puts into each season and every event. That’s been a huge reference for me – to see someone who can go that fast but is still a little older than me. It’s a great target. If I can get as far he has with the team, I will be more than pleased.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Oliver has been a staple of Corvette Racing. As a fan growing up and watching the team, he was there and always was the one to root for – the top dog and winning a lot of races. So I was a fan to begin with and then moved into competing against him in GRAND-AM when we were both racing Camaros. I remember my first race against him at VIR. I was terrified that I was in similar equipment and on the track at the same time, just knowing that I have this legend I’m racing against and how could I ever compete against him. Since then, he’s been a good friend and teammate even when we weren’t in the same car. He always treated me so well and offered a helping hand when I needed it or gave advice if I had questions when I went into the third-driver role at Corvette Racing. That was huge for me as a young guy – to come into such an intimidating team and organization to have someone at that level to be mentor. He’s been a huge help. They say to never meet your heroes, but to meet him and work with him is everything I could hope for. It’s been great to spend more time with him, getting to know him better as a person, a dad, a friend and an athlete has been a lot of fun. We’ll all miss him inside the team, but I’m sure we’ll stay connected and work with each other down the road.”

The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring is set for 10:10 a.m. ET on Saturday. NBCSN will air the race live from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and 6-10:30 p.m. ET; live network coverage on NBC is 3-6 p.m. TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold will offer live streaming of the full race starting at 10:05 a.m. ET. In addition, IMSA Radio will broadcast the race on IMSA.com, which also will host live timing and scoring.

The race also will air on XM channel 202 and SiriusXM Online 972.

Video Games: Why They’re Effective Employee Training Tools

Losing high-performing workers is always difficult. For one, you lose out on top talent. It’s also more costly to hire and train a new employee compared to keeping one. If you want to hire and retain more great employees, you need to invest in their development.

According to LinkedIn’s 2018 Workplace Learning Report, over 94 percent of workers say that they’ll stay in their company for longer if their employers invest in their career development. The researchers also found that workers find soft skills, like leadership, collaboration, and communication, to be the most important ones to learn and develop. Identifying and addressing skill gaps and integrating technology into their work are also seen as important focuses on talent development along with tools such as the performance review software to track efficiency and performance.

When it comes to training methods, the report also found that digital methods are on the rise. In-person, classroom-style training methods are a thing of the past. More than 68 percent of workers want to learn at work and at their own pace. As such, it’s important to provide convenient and interesting methods for learning. These include online lessons through your own e-learning platform or through portals like Udemy.

Using Video Games for Training

Another interesting and fun way to train your employees is through video games. You read that right, video games are actually effective at teaching workers essential skills and knowledge for their job. A 2010 University of Colorado Business School paper reviewed over 65 studies and analyzed over 6,476 trainees. They found that trainees that underwent programs that utilized video games had a 14 percent better skill-based knowledge level, 11 percent higher factual knowledge level, and nine percent higher retention rate than those who didn’t use video games for their training.

A well-known and more specific case of the effectiveness of video games for training is Walmart. According to an article in TechRepublic, the shopping giant successfully adopted gamification in their training routine. They did this by providing employees with a proprietary application on their phone. This allowed them to participate in a variety of simulations, including responding to emergencies, handling a high volume of customers (which is especially important during Black Friday sales), and more.

These are trial-and-error situations that help personnel handle real-life ones with increased confidence since they’ve already seen and solved it. What’s great about these games is that employees get to experience these true-to-life simulations without having the pressure of a performance review looming over them.

The training simulation was so fun and useful that employees played the game during their break times and did friendly competitions with their coworkers. But why exactly are video games so effective for training?

Inspires Creativity When Solving Problems

Video games that provide a way for employees to test their skills through trial and error don’t have to worry about real-life consequences if they fail in-game. With this mindset, they can craft creative strategies to solve their work problems. Make sure the game you use for training provides realistic situations, so they can use their newly-formed work style when they finally have to face their real tasks. For example, a flight school often uses flight simulators with true-to-life tools and meters to prepare their students for their real flights.

Instills Confidence and Motivation

A well-made game for training provides clear instructions and objectives for students to follow. When they master the skills needed for their job and ace their training, the game will provide them with instant feedback that they did great.

Proper training on video games should also provide feedback for when trainees don’t do well, showing where they went wrong. This way, they can fix their mistakes in the future. With these feedback mechanisms in place, they can confidently perform the tasks they’ve mastered in-game.

Encourages Social Interaction

Multiplayer games that require trainees to play together will always foster teamwork. Even if a training video game isn’t created with multiplayer in mind, it can still encourage social interaction. Trainees and instructors can share strategies on how to solve certain tasks. They can also engage in friendly competitions if your game comes with points and rewards.

Video games aren’t just for fun and relaxation, they’re also great for training your workers. With a well-developed video game, you’ll not only help trainees improve their memory and hand-eye coordination, but you’ll also help them be more creative and confident at their job.

Work with a professional developer to create a game that balances simulating real-life tasks and fun, and your trainees are sure to enjoy their career development in your company.
