Spire Motorsports, Michael McDowell Partner with B’laster for 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Campaign

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 14, 2024) – Today, Spire Motorsports announced B’laster Holdings will join the team’s family of partners and serve as the primary sponsor for 2021 Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell in two NASCAR Cup Series races in 2025. B’laster will also maintain an associate sponsorship presence with McDowell and the No. 71 Cup Series team across the 2025 season.

The B’laster livery will be showcased aboard McDowell’s No. 71 Chevrolet for the April 27 Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and again when NASCAR’s senior circuit makes its debut at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City June 15.

Founded in 1957, B’laster’s portfolio of products includes penetrants, lubricants, cleaners, solvents, removers, grease, protectants, and refrigerants. The Ohio-based company first partnered with McDowell for multiple races during the 2024 season and has maintained a presence in NASCAR since 2019.

“B’laster and NASCAR go hand-in-hand,” said B’laster Products President & CEO, Randy Pindor. “It was a no-brainer for us that we wanted to continue to have a presence in the Cup Series. Michael McDowell really made some waves in 2024, and we are excited to be able to continue working with him and the Spire Motorsports team for 2025.”

McDowell, a native of Glendale, Ariz., is a veteran of 501 starts and a two-time Cup Series race winner. He made his series debut in 2008 and has since recorded six pole positions, 11 top-five and 44 top-10 finishes in NASCAR’s premier division.

“I’m thrilled to have the B’laster team join me at Spire Motorsports in 2025,” said McDowell. “B’laster was with me last year and I am thankful to have them partner with our No. 71 team. B’laster is so important to both the automotive and powersports spaces and their products are second to none. I hope I can take the B’laster colors to Victory Lane and make the most of our partnership.”

McDowell comes to Spire Motorsports from Front Row Motorsports where he was the organization’s leader in wins, starts, and top-five finishes. In addition to his victory in the 2021 Great American Race, the father of five proved his versatility with a road-course win in the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He earned NASCAR Cup Series Playoff berths in 2021 and 2023.

The 67th running of the Daytona 500 will be televised live on FOX, Sunday, Feb. 16 beginning at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and will be the first NASCAR event streamed live on Amazon Prime. The first of 36 points-paying races on the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Woolridge to pilot the No. 6 Ligier JS P3.

Braselton, GA (January 14, 2025) – MLT Motorsports announced that Canadian driver Jonathan Woolridge will join the team for the 2025 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge Series. Racing in the No. 6 Ligier JS P3, Woolridge’s first outing with the team will be at Daytona.

“I am thrilled and excited to join MLT Motorsports for the 2025 season,” said Woolridge. “Having observed the impressive program quality developed by Michael and Eric from the paddock, I feel a tremendous amount of confidence heading into the first round of the championship. I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and learn from everyone’s expertise. Here’s to making great memories and achieving big wins together!”

“All of us at MLT Motorsports are excited to welcome Jonathan to the team for the2025 VP Racing SportsCar Challenge season,” said team owner Dr. Michael Thompson. “This team was built to nurture and develop the next generation of drivers, and Jonathan is an exceptional fit for that mission. We’re eager to support his growth as a driver and see his potential shine behind the wheel of the LMP3 this season.”

Woolridge’s racing career began in 2009, with the Ontario, Canada native competing across Canada and the United Kingdom. He’s seen success in Formula 1600 and took home the title of Emzone Radical Cup Canada Champion in 2022 after winning all ten rounds in Canada’s premier championship for Radical sportscars. He’s no stranger to the LMP3 class. Woolridge captured his first career VP Racing SportsCar Challenge win at CTMP in the LMP3 class in 2023. With three race weekends (St. Pete, Mid-Ohio, and CTMP) under his belt in 2024, Woolridge finished seventh in the LMP3 point standings including a third-place finish at St. Pete and a second-place finish at CTMP.

This week marks Woolridge’s first race at the famed Daytona International Speedway, but he did test at the track in 2022. The MLT Motorsports team is no stranger to the winner circle at Daytona. In 2024, the team took home the pole and both race wins with driver Steven Aghakhani behind the wheel. A weekend that Woolridge and the team are looking to repeat in 2025.

“Going into the ROAR, our aim is clear – and of course, everyone wants to win.” Woolridge continued, “Leveraging the experience from both myside and the team’s, we are highly motivated for this weekend and the championship ahead. I’m looking forward to the challenge of the new GTDX category, where navigating through traffic will surely make for some entertaining races.

2025 DAYTONA 500 Sold Out

NASCAR will once again kick off its season in front of a full house of fans at The World Center of Racing

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 13, 2025) – Daytona International Speedway announced today that the 67th running of the DAYTONA 500 is officially sold out, with fans expected to pack the historic racing venue once again for NASCAR’s 2025 season opener.

Along with the sellout announcement, the World Center of Racing has also released the date for next year’s DAYTONA 500, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026.

Year after year, the Great American Race reigns as one of the most anticipated events in the motorsport world, and starting today, fans can sign up for exclusive pre-sale access for infield camping and tickets to next year’s event to ensure they secure their seats in advance.

“The DAYTONA 500 continues to be a spectacle of elite racing and entertainment, and the consecutive sellouts just prove this event is one of a kind,” said Frank Kelleher, President of Daytona international Speedway. “You can quite literally feel the atmosphere from the moment Speedweeks begins. The crowd is buzzing with excitement and every team, from the driver to the crew chief, is eager to get their season started. It all comes to a head when that green flag drops on Sunday, Feb. 16, and I can’t wait to see what this year’s DAYTONA 500 has in store for us.”

After a wildly competitive 2024 season that saw 18 different race winners, three of the closest finishes in NASCAR history, and crowned Joey Logano as a three-time Champion, the season opening DAYTONA 500 is sure to be a thriller.

Last year, William Byron came out on top after a hectic last few laps, earning his first DAYTONA 500 Championship and securing the victory for Hendrick Motorsports in their 40th anniversary year. He’ll become the latest driver to attempt back-to-back victories of The Great American Race. The last driver to win consecutive DAYTONA 500s was Denny Hamlin, who earned the title in 2019 and 2020.

Though grandstand tickets and camping are sold out for Sunday’s marquee event, limited upgrades and premium packages are still available. Fans can also catch plenty of the action during the multi-day racing and entertainment extravaganza that is Speedweeks Presented by AdventHealth.

The competition begins on Wednesday, Feb. 12 with DAYTONA 500 Qualifying presented by Busch Light, setting the front row for The Great American Race. Qualifying also sets the field for a pair of head-to-head battles in the Duel At DAYTONA on Thursday, Feb. 13, where drivers fight for their starting position in the 67th running of the DAYTONA 500.

The intensity increases on Friday, Feb. 14 as the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series season-opening Fresh From Florida 250 takes the green flag under the lights of the famed track. Then on Saturday, Feb. 15, fans can enjoy a jam-packed day of on-track action with the kickoff to the ARCA Menards Series season followed by the United Rentals 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

Then on Sunday, after a performance filled with international chart-toppers from Mr. Worldwide himself, drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series will fire up their engines and get the 2025 season underway in this year’s DAYTONA 500.

With all four series kicking off their season at Daytona, each driver will be fighting to start their year with a win, putting everything on the line at one of the biggest races on the schedules. Fans can enjoy the fierce competition all week long, as well as multiple different entertainment performances, fan activations and race day festivities.

CHEVROLET INDYCAR: Content Days Press Conference Transcript

CHEVROLET IN NTT INDYCAR SERIES
INDYCAR CONTENT DAYS
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT
JANUARY 14, 2025

PATO O’WARD, driver of the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, met with members of the media at the NTT INDYCAR SERIES Content Days in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Press Conference Transcript:

THE MODERATOR: No better way to kick things off in the NTT INDYCAR Series content days than with Pato O’Ward, back driving the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, beginning his sixth full season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, seven-time race winner winning three times this past season. Off-season, or non-racing season, because there is no off-season in INDYCAR because we’re always doing something —

PATO O’WARD: Are we, though? I’ve missed INDYCAR. I’ve been craving getting back here.

Q. What’s it been like the last couple months for you?

PATO O’WARD: Happy new year, everybody. Happy to be here. To me, it’s been a lot of traveling. I’ve done a lot of hours from Nashville all the way to like December 20th, I think, was kind of my first day off.

I haven’t had a lot of chance to chill out, but I have some time at the end of the month, which the team has been very courteous and generous in giving me a couple weeks off.

But yeah, I did a lot of traveling with the Formula 1 team, obviously. It was really cool to be part of their Constructors’ Championship and seeing that.

But FP1 in México, it feels like a whole year’s worth happened in three months. But it’s been great. But definitely happy to be back.

Q. (Indiscernible) it seems like they have a partnership with FOX Sports that’s knocking it out of the ballpark. What do you think so far of the marketing effort?

PATO O’WARD: Yeah, I want to publicly state that I think what FOX and INDYCAR are doing is freaking phenomenal. Like the commercial that just came out with Josef I think was so well done. It’s fun. It’s edgy. It’s flirting with that line where people do get engaged and you’re like, hey, this is different.

I have filmed mine. I have not seen it. I don’t know when it’s coming out. But it was — I would say it felt like I was doing a movie shoot. It really felt like the first time I was ever shooting a movie with all these different scenes.

I think it’s going to be a really, really cool commercial. I think you guys are going to enjoy it when you see it. Can’t wait for that.

I’m just excited to see what they come up with during the year. They really seem to be, first of all, on it, and secondly, they know what works, and I think that’s going to be probably one of the best decisions INDYCAR has ever done.

Ever since this news came out, I was really quick to text Bud Denker, and I said, man, this is freaking phenomenal. Congratulations. I think all of Penske Entertainment leadership is super excited to be working with them.

I think their imagination is kind of coming into truth, I would say.

Q. Down the road, a new car is being developed. What can you share with us from what you’ve seen of what that car will look like and what it’ll do?

PATO O’WARD: So I know you love me giving you headlines, but I have not seen anything. I have not talked to anybody about it because I’ve been, well, pretty much overseas a lot of this time.

But I know there’s a dinner somewhat soon or a couple drivers are going to get together with some of the leadership that hasn’t really had a chance to share with them, one of them being me, and I’m assuming I’ll hear more about it.

But I have no idea what it looks like, how heavy it is, how much power it’s going to have. I haven’t seen anything. But I hope that it’s just as good as Jay and everybody tells us.

We want to be low, fat, loud.

Q. I know you’ve had a busy off-season, but I imagine there’s been some reflection that you’ve done on this past INDYCAR season. There’s been a lot of changes at your team, as well. Now that you have some space from it, what do you make of the season that you put together in 2024 at Arrow McLaren?

PATO O’WARD: Inconsistent. I would say performance-wise, good days were great, bad days were horrible. It just seems to be the name of the game for us the last few years because I just don’t think we’re at the level where we need to be yet in terms of reliability. I’ve still made my fair share of mistakes.

There hasn’t been one thing that it’s like, hey, let’s just fix that, and it’s not simple because you go to these places and you’re so on the edge because if you’re not on the edge you’re 20th. Those joker cards, you will have to use them once or twice during the year, but you try and minimize that.

But I just think for us, we’ve had too many of those instances where we’re just throwing away points really. Cleaning that up and making our bad days better will have a significant impact in how we’re looking at the end of the season really.

Q. I know easier said than done, but as you look at it, is there anything that has led to that inconsistency, or is there something that you feel like you or the team is targeting to try and minimize that that is actionable in 2025?

PATO O’WARD: I mean, first off, development in the performance of the race car. I do think now that there wasn’t a lot of hybrid testing we’ve actually had a chance to hopefully find some good things to improve in the areas where we’re lacking the most in terms of circuits or whatever.

You can’t always — a season will always have its challenges. It’s never going to be perfect. It’s not going to be how you always want it to be. But you have to be as close to perfect as you can if you want to be a champion. You have to be close to perfect in an Indy 500 in order to win that race.

All it takes is just make sure that you’re well-prepared for the challenges that are coming ahead, because if you go into it being, I just want a chill season, that’s probably going to be a boring and slow season for you.

When you’re fighting at the top, there’s always going to be drama. There’s always going to be different highs and lows of emotions because that’s ultimately what makes it so special and entertaining for other people, as well.

I just think we need to be ready for that, and taking a page out of Andrea’s book, when you think about it, I think it’s such a privilege to be in such a high-pressure situation because that means you’re doing something well, and that’s what we’re going to try and do.

Q. Big changes within the team; Gavin Ward leaving as the leader of the INDYCAR program and Tony Kanaan stepping up to take on that role. You’ve worked with Tony for a couple years. What are your thoughts on Gavin’s exit and Tony stepping up to take over the team principal role for 2025?

PATO O’WARD: My job is to drive a race car and try and kind of help lead the team in terms of where we need to go. Engineering-wise and what we need.

But I think Tony is as qualified as anybody to be leading this group of people that — yes, he was a racing driver and he still says he’s a racing driver, but I’d call him retired. He is and has knowledge, experience of everything. He can dip his toes into marketing and communications. He can dip his toes with all the partners. He can dip his toes with his opinions with the drivers, especially with Nolan, that he’s coming into the team.

I know he did a couple races last year, but I think he will be a very good mentor for him, as I’m trying to be. It seems kind of weird, I’ve always been the baby of the team but now I’m the old guy. I want them to succeed, as well, because them succeeding means that — I know that’s just going to drive me forward and make me better, and when we’ve got two or three cars fighting, it’s very different to having one car fighting at the front, and ultimately that’s what you need in order to keep up with three strong cars.

But easier said than done. But I trust the decisions that have been made, and I told Zak I’m completely behind everything that has been done, and I’m always up to take on something else if there is an area that needs a little bit of attention and help.

Q. What’s that been like through the off-season? We saw a lot of cool social videos with you and Christian and Nolan and that camaraderie through the off-season; how important is that now that you are the senior driver on this team?

PATO O’WARD: Yeah, I definitely don’t feel like the — I would say I don’t feel like the senior of the team, but it’s a different role, I would say, because I’ve always had guys with quite a lot more experience than me.

But it’s called moving with time. That happens. I’m 25. I’m going to turn 26 this year. That’s just something that I’m going to have to accept as time goes on.

But that just means you’ve got more knowledge in your memory bank that you can go back on and use to your advantage whenever you need it during the championship and during the season.

But yeah, I think we’re going to have a good thing going, and it’s all about just working well because I’ve worked really well with all my past teammates, so my focus is just making sure that we can all kind of find what each of us likes in a way but also find where we can all kind of come together and create a package that is going to be strong, especially at these big events like the 500 and stuff like that. We need that.

Q. Obviously you’ve got Christian Lundgaard joining the team this year. What do you think he’ll bring to the team in terms of his experience?

PATO O’WARD: I mean, he’ll bring knowledge that he learned over at Rahal. I haven’t been so attentive, I would say, with the off-season because there really hasn’t been a lot of testing. I think there’s only been like one oval test that he did, which obviously very different car for him and stuff. But I haven’t really kind of dug into it too much until we kind of really start going and start working together.

But I’m an open book. He will be able to see what I do and Nolan does. We’ll be able to see what he does. I think it’s important that — different to, for example, to Formula 1, in INDYCAR you can cater to your liking a little bit more in terms of car setup and stuff.

I’ve always been on my own island. Everybody whines about how I like my car. I’ve always kind of been a loner in terms of where I like my things. I’m curious to see if he likes it, if he doesn’t like it.

But yeah, just seeing how everything kind of usually falls in INDYCAR, he’ll probably have his own kind of direction, and what’s most important is just making sure that all three cars are fast because a lot of times we’re each in kind of our own island and we all have the same issue, and you know there’s a fundamental thing there rather than actual setup.

Q. Obviously sounds like we’re moving towards a race in México at some point. How huge would that be for you, and what kind of response will the Mexican fans have?

PATO O’WARD: Ooh, man, people are going to be pumped. I’m going to be pumped. I hope all of you are going to be pumped. It’s going to be a great event. It’s going to be the best event on the calendar outside of the Indy 500.

I know there’s talks going on. I know it’s quite more advanced than what it’s ever been. Yeah, I really hope we see it on the calendar in ’26.

Q. Have you been pretty involved in it?

PATO O’WARD: I will be very involved, and I want to be very involved. I want to make sure it’s a success. I want to finish that weekend and be like, wow. I wanted to say something else, but not this early in the morning.

It’s the perfect market for INDYCAR to go and just really experience what that aficionado, that fan can bring to the table because it’s such a special group of people, such a special community that really embraces not just INDYCAR back in the day but Formula 1. Anybody that’s there they always make them feel so welcomed and special, and I know they’re going to do just that for us.

Q. Speaking of México, last year at this content days, you had mentioned you took three weeks or a month to decompress and download. Did you get a chance to do that this off-season?

PATO O’WARD: No, I haven’t had the chance to do that. I will at the end of this month. Last week of January and first week of February is kind of my — going to have my off-season, which is less than maybe some other years than I’ve had in the past. But I had a lot of time, or at least it feels like it because I had nothing in the off-season before December.

So in the new year, I really enjoyed that, and I came to Indy a little bit earlier than what I have in the past and just have really enjoyed being here. I love being here. I really, really missed it. It’s been very recharging, I would say, but there’s still some to go.

But I’ve got enough to give all of you this amazing energy that I’ve brought this morning (laughter), and yeah, ready for a full week’s worth of media for us.

NASCAR confirms Mike Wallace ineligible for Daytona 500

Photo by Noel Lanier for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Mike Wallace has not received approval from NASCAR to contend for a starting spot for the 67th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway scheduled for February 16, 2025.

The decision was announced on January 13, only 11 days after MBM Motorsports announced that the 65-year-old Wallace would attempt to qualify for a starting spot in this year’s Great American Race in the team’s No. 66 Ford. After evaluating Wallace’s recent on-track activities, NASCAR flipped the script and deemed him ineligible to compete in the 2025 Daytona 500, which is scheduled to occur nearly a month from now.

The decision was based on the fact that Wallace has not competed across NASCAR’s top three national touring series since August 2020, when he competed at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course venue while driving for J.D. Motorsports. He has also not competed in any large venues within NASCAR’s premier series, the Cup division, since he made his recent Daytona 500 start in 2015, where he finished 36th while driving for Premium Motorsports.

To date, Wallace has made 11 career starts in the Great American Race. During his 11 starts, he recorded three top-10 results and notched a career-best result of fourth place during the 2007 event while driving for Phoenix Raceway.

In total, Wallace has made 115 career starts in the Craftsman Truck Series division, 497 in the Xfinity circuit and 197 in the Cup competition. While his best result in the Cup division is a runner-up result at Phoenix Raceway in October 2001 while driving for Team Penske, he has amassed four career victories in the Xfinity division and five in the Truck Series division. His latest Xfinity victory occurred at Daytona in July 2004 while driving for Biagi Brothers Racing. His latest Truck victory occurred at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2011 while driving for Kevin Harvick Inc.

Following the news of NASCAR’s decision, Wallace took to Facebook to express both his disappointment on not being eligible to compete and his endorsement to MBM Motorsports.

“Daytona 500 NON update! To my utter shock and devastation at 4:00 today NASCAR [competition] director Elton Sawyer called me to inform me that NASCAR has decided not only to not approve me for Daytona 500 but at this time not approved to race in the Cup, Xfinity and Truck series in 2025 but could go through [their] process to possibly get approved for 2026. This comes as a total shock as the President of NASCAR last week in a real phone call told me all was good and he will see me in Daytona. I owe this posting to all my fans and [non-fans] who were so supportive through the great messages and postings of support as they say I inspired them! Please -Please show your Love and support to Carl Long and the complete MBM Motorsports team as this has now put them in a terrible position as I was not just the driver but also committed to sponsorship for their Daytona 500 effort, I had sponsorship commitments for the effort around me and. Help them find an approved driver and plenty of money!”

MBM Motorsports also took to social media to express the team’s disappointment in not having Wallace as the driver throughout the 2025 Daytona Speedweeks. Nonetheless, the organization remains committed to recruiting another competitor with funding for the team’s No. 66 entry to make a bid for a starting spot in the upcoming Daytona 500.

The 2025 Daytona 500 is scheduled for February 16 at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

(Jan. 13, 2025) – With the NHRA set for its 74th season of racing in 2025, the countdown is on for the start of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and it doesn’t get much bigger than the season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, which kicks off the year March 6-9 at Gainesville Raceway.

The legendary facility will play host to the 56th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, long regarded as one of the marquee events on the NHRA tour. This season will be no different as all the stars in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will look to win the historic race and start their year with a spectacular victory.

Action in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will start with two rounds of qualifying on both Friday and Saturday, the Top Fuel All-Star Callout on Saturday and then eliminations on Sunday.

Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA unveils livery

Cadillac Racing expands to two-car Hypercar program for 2025 FIA WEC season

PARIS (Jan. 13, 2025) – Cadillac Racing, in conjunction with Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, revealed the livery of its two Hypercar racecars that will contest the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season.

Highlighting the event at Cadillac City Paris, the iconic brand’s flagship EV store and experience center, was the unveiling of the Nos. 12 and 38 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series.R racecars. Guests included principals from General Motors, Cadillac Racing, JOTA Sport, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, organizer of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“The unveiling of the Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series.R livery here at our iconic flagship in Paris reflects Cadillac’s unwavering commitment to innovation and performance on the global stage,” said Pere Brugal, Managing Director and President, GM Europe.

“As we expand our footprint in Europe, this partnership represents a powerful opportunity to showcase Cadillac’s pioneering spirit in one of the most prestigious racing championships in the world.

“We are proud to work alongside JOTA Sport and Hertz to bring our V-Series.R to life and look forward to an exciting season ahead.”

Cadillac Racing has doubled its WEC factory program entries for its third season of global Hypercar competition, with championship-winning JOTA Sport campaigning the cars in its first WEC season as a works team.

OTA Sport is one of the most experienced and successful sports car racing teams in recent history, having finished on the podium in LMP2 at Le Mans 10 times, including second and third overall in 2017. Owned in part by affiliates of Knighthead Capital Management, LLC and sponsored by global car rental company Hertz and seven-time champion and entrepreneur Tom Brady, the England-based team entered the Hypercar class as a privateer in 2023.

”The unveiling of the Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series.R livery today is the culmination of an enormous amount of hard work and commitment on all sides of this new motorsport family. It’s a very proud moment for the entire group as we unveil this stunning race machine,” said David Clark, Co-Founder and Director, Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA. “This moment represents more than our aesthetic for the year ahead, it represents the next step for both race-winning, record-setting brands within the FIA World Endurance Championship. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hertz for being incredible partners to us on this journey and to show our gratitude to GM/Cadillac for having the belief in us, not just in our ability to perform but also for their trust in the level that we are going to represent one of their most prestigious brands on a global stage. We can’t wait to see what we can do together this year.”

Drivers Will Stevens, 2009 Formula One champion Jenson Button and Norman Nato return to the team that earned a historic victory at Spa-Francorchamps for a privateer and second successive FIA Hypercar Team World Cup Championship this past season. They will be joined by Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, who return as Cadillac Racing teammates for the third consecutive WEC season and fourth overall, and Sebastien Bourdais. Driver pairings will be announced at a later date.

The eight-race global calendar begins February 20-21 with the annual WEC Prologue leading into the Qatar Airways Qatar 1812Km on February 28 at the Lusail International Circuit. The race will mark the second consecutive year of the season opener on the 5.419-kilometer (3.367-mile), 16-turn circuit north of Doha, Qatar.

For more than a century, racing has provided a testbed for Cadillac to transfer knowledge and technology between racecars and production vehicles, as well as a way to build a fanbase for the brand around the world.

The Cadillac V-Series.R, powered by the purpose-built 5.5-liter DPOHC V8 engine, marks the third-generation Cadillac prototype racecar and the brand’s first hybrid electrified race car. Codeveloped by Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing and chassis constructor Dallara, the racecar represents the fifth generation of the V-Series, incorporating key Cadillac V-Series production car design elements such as vertical lighting and floating blades.

South Boston Speedway Late Model, Limited Sportsman Teams to Race on New Hoosier F45* Tire for 2025 Season

SOUTH BOSTON, VA…..Competitors in South Boston Speedway’s Late Model Stock Car Division and Limited Sportsman Division will race on a new tire during the 2025 season.

South Boston Speedway and Hoosier Racing Tire officials announced that competitors will race on Hoosier’s new F45* (star) tire, a tire developed by Hoosier Racing Tires that will provide competitors a tire offering greater durability and consistency. The new F45* (star) tire will also be used by the CARS Tour in 2025.

“We’re extremely excited about this,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Brandon Brown. “We’ve worked very hard with Hoosier to get to this point. After the test here in December and the feedback we got, we’re confident this F45* tire will put on great racing for our fans and be a tire our competitors are extremely pleased with. A huge thanks to Hoosier, the CARS Tour, and our friends at all the tracks running Late Model Stock Cars for the collaboration on this effort.”

The new Hoosier F45* tire retains the same compound of Hoosier Racing Tires’ F45 tire that was used in 2024, but the construction of the tire will be stronger and more durable.

According to Hoosier representatives, all F45* tires will be within a half-inch chalk mark. To denote the difference between the two tires teams will begin to see a * (star) on the compound tag of the tire.

It was tested at South Boston Speedway by two-time NASCAR national champion and seven-time South Boston Speedway champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia, and Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia, the runner-up to Sellers in the 2024 South Boston Speedway title chase.

Prior to the test at South Boston Speedway the tire was tested at Florence (South Carolina) Motor Speedway with driver Brent Crews who earned three wins, finished fifth in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car standings and earned the CARS Tour’s Rookie of the Year award while competing out of the Kevin Harvick Inc. stable.

“I’m looking for the best drivability, what’s going to put on the best show for the fans, what allows you to be able to go off into the corner and load the right-side tires up and not have the car get out from under you,” Sellers explained.

“You want to have guys being able to race side-by-side, door-to-door, and having good racing knowing the car is not going to be inconsistent in any way. At the end of the day, you want something that is going to be very forgiving, rolling in on the top side, rolling in on the bottom side, something that is not instantly going to lose grip and have a spike in any way where it gets the driver out from under him.”

Stallings notes that having a tire that can be used at a variety of tracks and across multiple series will help Late Model Stock Car Division racing.

“Getting a stable tire that works at a variety of racetracks and drives competitively at all of the racetracks is obviously the ultimate goal,” Stallings pointed out. “We raced at two different tracks last year that were on different tires. Putting everybody on the same playing field is going to be a huge step in the right direction as far as driving costs down in Late Model Stock Car racing.”

Stallings is grateful to Hoosier for taking steps to attempt to help competitors and speedways.

“All of the effort Hoosier is putting in to help grassroots racing helps Late Model Stock Car racing get stronger,” Stallings pointed out. “Helping competitors to be able to go from one track to another and not have to worry about what kind of tires they are on and getting some consistency back into Late Model Stock Car racing with the tire selection is going to help racing.

“It’s very gratifying to see Hoosier invest back into grassroots and Late Model Stock Car racing to keep us at a level where we are extremely competitive but also making it affordable the way grassroots racing should be.”

Hoosier Tire dealer Jimmie Doughton who works with Hoosier Tire South said the company was looking for a safe tire that will be consistent and make the racing better.

What we’re striving for is a tire that will be safe and more consistent,” he said. “We’re looking after the racer, something they like and will make the racing better.”

South Boston Speedway opens its 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, March 22 with the SMART Modified Tour’s King of the Modifieds race featuring Tour-Type Modifieds in a 125-lap race. In addition, the track’s Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will be featured in twin $2,500-to-win 50-lap races. Other divisions will be announced at a later date.

Advance tickets are priced at $20 each. Tickets may be purchased online on South Boston Speedway’s website, www.southbostonspeedway.com or by calling the speedway office at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540 during regular business hours.

Tickets at the gate on race day will be $25 each. Seniors ages 65 and older, military, healthcare workers, and students (with ID) can purchase tickets for $20 each at the gate on race day only. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.

The latest news and updates at South Boston Speedway can be found on the speedway’s website, www.southbostonspeedway.com, by calling the speedway office at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540 during regular business hours, and through the track’s social media channels.

It’s a record-setting fourth win for the Honda Civic, which has won more NACOTY honors than any other nameplate in the over 30-year history of the award.

2025 Honda Civic Hybrid

Positioned at the top of the refreshed 2025 Honda Civic lineup, the new Civic hybrid, offered for the first time as either a sedan or hatchback, combines the fun-to-drive spirit of Civic with the award-winning Honda two-motor hybrid-electric system.

With a combined 200 horsepower and an impressive 232 lb.-ft. of torque, the new Civic Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid are the most powerful non-Type R Civics ever. Featuring two large and powerful electric motors, the Honda two-motor hybrid system gives Civic hybrid quick, effortless acceleration with outstanding EPA fuel economy ratings – including a 50-mpg city rating for Civic Sedan Sport and Sport Touring hybrids1.

To further amplify the legendary fun-to-drive spirit and class-leading ride comfort of Civic, the ride and handling dynamics have been optimized with unique spring and damper tuning, and a special tire developed for Civic hybrid. Hybrid-electric trims also enjoy the highest levels of cabin quietness and ride comfort in the Civic lineup, with a robust noise reduction package that includes Active Noise Control on all hybrids, and wheel resonators on Sport Touring.

Civic is the longest-running Honda automotive nameplate and one of the top three best-selling passenger cars in America over the past 52 years2. Honda has sold over 15 million Civics in North America since 1973, and the 11th-generation Civic is an unparalleled success. Serving as the gateway to the Honda brand, it’s America’s most popular vehicle with not only Gen Z buyers, but also first-time new car buyers as well as multicultural customers3.

Honda Two-Motor Hybrid System

Honda is celebrating 25 years of hybrid sales in America. Honda began sales of the first-generation Honda Insight, America’s first mass-production hybrid-electric passenger vehicle, in December of 1999.

The new fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid system that powers Civic hybrid models maximizes efficiency without compromising dynamic performance or passenger and cargo space to deliver a sportier and more pleasant driving experience with exceptional fuel economy ratings.

Variants of the two-motor hybrid system are also available in the Honda Accord and CR-V and represent more than 50% of Accord and CR-V sales.

Praised for its power, efficiency and refinement by the editors at WardsAuto, the Honda two-motor hybrid system powering the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback received a “Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems” award. This was the second year in a row the Honda hybrid-electric powertrain has received this prestigious honor.

Hybrid-electric System Made in Ohio

The new fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid-electric power unit is built* by associates at the Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio. It is paired with an all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine made at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. All major components in the engine have been redesigned and improved including the block, which now features stronger main bearing caps, cylinder head, crank, connecting rods and camshafts. These components are manufactured at the Anna Engine Plant for the first time, improving production efficiencies and increasing capacity.

Honda Civic Manufacturing

Honda has produced* nearly 12 million Civics in North America, including more than five million in the United States, accounting for more than a quarter of Honda vehicle production in the region since Honda began making cars in America in 1982. The 11th-generation Civic continues to build on that legacy with production* of the Civic Sedan in Alliston, Ontario, Canada, and Civic Hatchback at the company’s Greensburg, Indiana plant. Both plants produce Civic hybrid models.
