No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet News and Notes

Back to Kentucky…Cale Gale will make his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start at Kentucky Speedway this weekend in the UNOH 225.  The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender last competed at the 1.5-mile track in October 2011, when he started in the 24th position and raced to a 15th-place finish.  Gale also has two NASCAR Nationwide Series starts (best start: eighth, best finish: 13th) and one Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) start (start: 12th, finish: second) at Kentucky Speedway.

Finding Momentum…Gale entered the sixth race of the 2012 season at Dover (Del.) International Speedway (“The Monster Mile”) still searching for his first top 10 of the year.  In his first career start at The Monster Mile, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender was able to draw on his short-track racing experience to overcome an early spin and race to a fifth-place finish in the rain-shortened event, picking up his first top five of the season.  Gale followed up the career-best run with an eighth-place finish the following week at Texas Motor Speedway to record back-to-back top-10 finishes for the first time in his NCWTS career.  Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team hope to continue to build on that momentum this week at Kentucky Speedway.

Taking on the World Crown…Gale will make his third appearance in the World Crown 300 at Gresham (Ga.) Motorsports Park on Wednesday, July 4th.  Gale, who currently holds the track record for a super late model, will be racing the No. 83 Rheem Chevrolet super late model for Gale Force.  The 29th annual World Crown 300 will consist of three separate segments, with added drama from pit stops and inversions at the conclusion of each section.  Grandstands open for the prestigious super late model event at 12:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 4th. Practice is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. ET, and qualifying will follow at 4:45 p.m. ET.  Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:25 p.m. ET, and fireworks to celebrate Independence Day will close the evening following the races.

Race for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year… Gale continues to hold his ground ranking second in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year rankings. Currently 35 points behind leader Ty Dillon, Gale was named the “Sunoco Rookie of the Race” at Dover International Speedway earlier this month.

Picking Up Points… With back-to-back top-10 finishes, Gale has been making up ground in the point standings over the past few NCWTS events.  Following his eighth-place run at Texas Motor Speedway, Gale picked up four positions in the NCWTS Owner Points standings to be ranked 12th, just 17 points outside the top 10.  The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender also picked up two positions in the driver standings to be ranked 11th among the NCWTS competitors.

From the Driver’s Seat

Cale Gale Quotes… On racing at Kentucky Speedway:  “Kentucky Speedway is a track that has a lot of character.  It’s a rough track with a lot of bumps.  It seems like the fast way around the track is around the bottom, but the groove seems to move up as the day goes on, especially in turns one and two.  By the end of the night there will be multiple grooves and a lot of side-by-side racing.  The guys have put in a lot of time and effort to make sure that our Rheem Chevrolet is as strong as possible.  It’s a fun track for the drivers, and I think we’ll be able to put on a really great show for the fans.”

On what to look forward to as the summer heats up:  “I’m really looking forward to getting into the summer months because it means that we’re finally getting to the point of the season where we’re racing every week.  I’ll be in the No. 83 Rheem Chevrolet for the World Crown on the Fourth of July down at Gresham Motorsports Park. From there, it’s really focusing on the Truck Series, and our schedule there.  We’ll finally be to the point where we have a lot of back-to-back races, so we need to have a good game plan on which trucks we’re using when to make sure that everything runs smoothly. We’ve all been working very hard to make sure that everything we have is the best we can get it-we want to continue building our program and getting our Rheem Chevrolet stronger each and every week.”

From the Pit Box

Jerry Baxter Quotes… On what to expect from the No. 33 Rheem team at Kentucky Speedway:  “The Rheem team will be racing the same truck that we raced in Dover and tested at Nashville.  We’ve run well with this chassis in the past and we’re excited to take it back to the track. The track at Kentucky Speedway is extremely rough-it’s probably the second roughest track that we go to-and getting your truck to handle well while going over the bumps is definitely the key to success.  We went to the seven post a week ago to get the Rheem Chevrolet ready for the race; we spent a lot of time working on it to make sure that it can travel over the bumps.  It’s another race where we practice during the day and race at night.  We need to dial in the Rheem Chevrolet during practice, but also remember that the track will free up at night just like it did in Texas.”
