August 10, 2012

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 42 TARGET DODGE met with media and discussed road racing, the comparison between Sonoma and The Glen, his pole at Pocono last weekend, and more. Full Transcript:

ON HIS EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS WEEKEND AT THE GLEN

“Our goal this weekend is to win; worst case scenario is a top five. That would be okay.”

WOULD A WIN FOR YOU AT THIS POINT CHANGE THE WHOLE COMPLEXION FOR YOU?

“Well, there are a lot of really good tracks coming for us. And if you win here, I don’t find something on the car. You could change this engine in five minutes.”

WHILE IT’S FUN TO RACE AT SONOMA, IS IT MORE EXCITING AND CHALLENGING TO RACE AT THE GLEN?

“Sonoma, I don’t know; it’s about the timing and everything. This place, you’ve really got to hustle it. I’ve been lucky enough to win at both of them. I think this weekend we have a very realistic chance of taking a win fo he team. We’re doing everything we can to get it done.”

WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE COURSE HERE?

“You’ve really got to work on the car and make sure you’re comfortable with the high speed and the brakes and you’ve got to look after the car; and everybody knows that.”

DID YOU TEST ON ANOTHER ROAD COURSE?

“We tested prior to Sonoma, but haven’t tested since that race.”

DOES IT MAKE IT MORE CHALLENGING BECAUSE WE ONLY RACE HERE ONCE A YEAR?

“With my background, in Formula One you go to all these places once a year. So, it’s not really a big deal; you don’t go left but right.”

IF THE RAIN IS A PROBLEM TODAY, HOW IMPORTANT IS PRACTICE?

“To tell you the truth, I don’t know. If we don’t practice, I don’t know but I would assume, that qualifying would get rained out. So I think it would be very important to have a good balance. And really, whatever practice time we get tomorrow, we’ll really focus on making sure we have good car; a good handling car.”

HOW EXCITED IS THE TEAM AFTER WINNING THE POLE AT POCONO LAST WEEKEND?

“Oh, that was big. We needed something to cheer on and that was a big deal for us. We take it as a great thing, but now we move on and we’ve got to try to get a win here.”
