Green Captures 18th-place Finish at Monster Mile

Dover, DE (May 31, 2014)- In their first race together this season, Jeff Green and the Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® team headed to the Monster Mile to compete in Saturday’s Buckle Up 200. Having had success at the one-mile track in previous years, Green was optimistic that his first of five races in the No. 14 Camry was going to be a success. After nearly wrecking during the first round of knock out qualifying and posting the 25th fastest time, Green was able to rebound in the 200-lap event later that afternoon to post an 18th-place finish.

Early in the race, Green was able to maintain his position despite battling loose-handling conditions. When the first caution flag waved on lap 16, Green brought the car to pit road for four tires, fuel, and a chassis adjustment. After quick work from the pit crew, Green was able to restart the event in the 22nd position.

Over the next forty laps, the adjustments previously made seemed to help the car’s handling in the short run but under long green flag conditions, the car would once again become loose on entry and exit. As a result, Green not only lost a lap to the race leader but also slipped two positions in the running order when the event’s second caution flag waved on lap 73. Following a routine service with adjustments, Green was scored in the 26th position on the lap 79 restart.

As the race continued, the car’s handling improved and by the halfway point of the race, the Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® team was scored in the 22nd position. When the event’s third caution flag waved on lap 139, Green returned to pit road for four tires, fuel, and another round of adjustments to help the car’s handling. Despite the quick work by the team, Green was forced to restart the race from the tail end of the longest line since he was caught speeding when exiting pit road. Fortunately this didn’t hurt the team as the caution flag waved four laps later. Although he had just run a short time with the new adjustments, Green determined that the car was still going to be too tight so he brought the car back down pit road for additional adjustments. When the race resumed on lap 158, Green was scored in the 21st position.

During the final laps, the car’s handling once again showed great improvement. This allowed Green to not only run his best laps of the race but also advance three positions in the running order to finish Saturday’s Buckle Up 200 in the 18th position.

Jeff Green Quotes:

“We had a solid day today. The guys were able to help me throughout the race and we actually got the car handling pretty good on the last run. I’m so proud of everyone for working hard all weekend and am happy we were able to have a good finish.”
