No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes

Taking on Texas for the first time… Jimmy Weller will make his very first start, in any series, at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, June 6.  After spending time in NASCAR’s developmental ranks, Weller’s 2014 race schedule is focused on learning NASCAR’s intermediate tracks–those facilities that are 1.5-miles and larger.  Last month, Weller raced the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet to a 14th-place finish at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, which is a mile-and-a-half track styled similar to Texas Motor Speedway.

Pursuing his passion… Passionate about racing, Jimmy Weller climbs behind the wheel every chance he has, which sometimes includes racing twice in the same weekend at tracks hundreds of miles apart.  This is another one of those weekends.  Weller will kick off the weekend competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night, and will then travel back to Hartford, Ohio, where he will race a big block dirt modified at Sharon Speedway on Saturday night.  Still chasing his first win of the season at Sharon Speedway, Weller was set to roll off third in the feature race last weekend, but suffered a power steering failure while pulling on to the track.  The Hubbard, Ohio native decided to start at the rear of the field and went on to finish 12th in the main event.
Next NASCAR race… Jimmy Weller will continue his partial schedule in the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet Silverado with the UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway on June 26th.
Encouraging kids… Just hours before climbing behind the wheel of the No. 08 Geneva Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet Silverado to race at Texas Motor Speedway, Jimmy Weller will spend time with local Texas elementary school students.  As part of a program that has been bringing students to the track for over a decade, Weller will join three other drivers to meet students in Kathy Hennessey’s classroom.  Forty students will attend the race as a reward for their hard work in the classroom, and will have the unique opportunity to meet the drivers, ask questions, and collect autographs on Friday.
Meet Jimmy Weller… Jimmy Weller, driver of the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Parts Chevrolet Silverado, will participate in a brief Q&A session, meet fans and sign autographs this weekend at the Chevrolet Stage in the Fan Midway.  Come out on Friday, June 6 at 12:45 p.m. to meet Weller and see all of the great Chevrolet products on display.

Jimmy Weller Quotes… On racing at Texas Motor Speedway for the first time:  “I’m really excited to race our Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.  It will be my first time on the track, so I’m sure I have a lot of learning to do.  Luckily, I’ll have my team from SS Green Light Racing to help me shorten the learning curve.  Whether it’s my crew chief getting the right setup or my spotter telling me how I can adjust my line–we really work well together as a team.”

On the team’s continued improvement:  “With only racing a partial schedule this season, our Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products team tried to pick a few areas that we could really focus on and improve.  It started with our schedule, which is focused primarily around the larger tracks.  I grew up racing on dirt tracks, which by design are smaller tracks, so I’m spending a lot of time competing at tracks that are larger than I’m used to.  We spend time every week working on my line and working on our setup, but every week we’re a little better when we unload.  It’s been really cool to watch the progress we’ve made.”

The No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Integrated Metal Products Chevrolet Silverado team will compete at Texas Motor Speedway with chassis No. 1098 as their primary truck.  Most recently, the team utilized this truck at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May 2014 where Weller drove to a 14th-place finish.
