Michael Annett Pre-Race Notes & Quotes: Daytona

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 2, 2014) – The last time Michael Annett was at Daytona, he was running in the top 10 with less than 50 laps to go. It was his debut race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and, to him, nothing would’ve been more thrilling than winning the Daytona 500 in his first-ever race in NASCAR’s premier division.

That dream ended in a multi-car accident on lap 162. This weekend, Annett returns to Daytona hungry for more.

Annett and his Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS team will spend Independence Day weekend at The World Center of Racing in Daytona Beach, seeking improvement on their February result there and a continuation of their current roll. Annett is one of two rookie drivers to have finished in the top half of the field in three of his last four races, most recently scoring an 18th-place finish last weekend at Kentucky Speedway.

The race airs live on Saturday night, July 5 at 7:30 pm Eastern on TNT.

SPECIAL GUEST ON THE PIT BOX… Teddy Kremer, the honorary batboy for the Cincinnati Reds, will enjoy this weekend’s race from the comfort of Michael Annett’s pit box. Annett was inspired by Kremer, a 31 year-old with Down syndrome, after watching a segment on ESPN’s E:60 television program. Kremer’s story was also told on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer.

MICHAEL ANNETT QUOTE:

On special guest Teddy Kremer…

“Teddy’s story is incredible and his positive attitude is something I certainly admire. I look forward to having him as our guest at the track this weekend. If we win, we might have to bring him to more races.”

On his previous run in Daytona…

“I thought for sure that we had a better car than we showed at Daytona back in February. We had a plan for that race and stuck to it, and it led us to the front. But we got caught in that last accident and there wasn’t much we could do to avoid it. We’ll have an identical car for Saturday, and now we know a little bit more about how these cars, with this rule package, react in the draft.”
