4THÂ Win Of 2014
Our team headed to Peterborough Speedway on August 2nd for the 8th round of the OSCAAR Modified tour series. This was our 4th race event in 8 nights and would be another good one for us in this 13 race schedule.
We only made one set of hot laps, that’s all we needed to get our Modified into the winners circle for the 3rd time in 2014.
It’s mandatory for all cars to go through tech prior to practicing. We went through with flying colors. Then our only set of hot laps showed we were fast right from the trailer.Â
This short track provides very intense and close racing. We won our first heat and finished 5th in the next race, putting us 3rd fastest.Â
In the feature we started 5th. It was a very fast and exciting race with lots of close and intense competition. Near the end of this hard fought battle, two cars tangled right in front of us. We were running 5th at the time, side by side with #77 Chad Strawn.
Gary McLean #8 and Tommy Robb #88 got together on the back chute. Tommy got in the grass and was sliding full speed towards turns three and four. I could see the #88 coming and hoped we would make it through. We did just get by, but the #8 of Gary McLean would get hit hard as would #47 Brian McLean, Gary’s cousin.
Brian was okay, his car took a hard hit, but all drivers were without any injury due to the safety of their cars in construction and with the safety equipment we wear, helmets, belts, gloves, neck restraints and fuel cells.
There were only 3 laps left in the race at the time of this crash and we went on to finish 4th giving our team another good run in this very competitive series.
We will have our Quaker State show car on display at the Grand Bend Motorplex for the Stratford Spectacular, from Thursday August 8th until Sunday August 10th. I will be there from 3 until 8 on Friday and on Saturday with our Late Model 10 till 1 on Saturday before heading to Sunset Speedway to race.
