Phoenix Brings Shift Work for Gilliland

New Rule Package and Shorter Oval Means More Work in the Cockpit

STATESVILLE, MARCH 11, 2015 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 MDS Transport Ford, comments on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:”The new rule package is going to be interesting at Phoenix. In the previous races, we shifted a little bit, especially on restarts, but I think now you’re going to see a lot of people shifting more throughout the race. With less RPM and the taller gear, it opens you up to being able do that. So, that’s going to be a little bit different.

“Phoenix is always a very special race for us. We’ve got a lot of friends and family out there. Last year we ran well at both races, so we’re excited to get back out there. After that, having Atlanta, Vegas and Phoenix under out belt, we should have a good handle on everything going forward.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 17 Sprint Cup career starts at Phoenix International Raceway… He has one top-15 finish at the one-mile oval, a 15th-place finish in 2008 … MDS Transport makes its first appearance of 2015 on the No. 38 Ford at Phoenix … Gilliland enters the Phoenix race weekend tied for 16th in the Sprint Cup Series championship standings.
