DARRELL WALLACE JR., No. 6 LoudMouth Exhaust Ford Mustang – FINISHED 2nd
DID YOU KNOW YOUR BACKUP CAR WAS THAT FAST? “No. Our team, I keep saying it, we never give up. It is really a credit to my guys right here for really thrashing this thing. It is unfortunate when you do have to bring the backup car out, like we talked about earlier. We never give up and we work really hard to get some speed in this baby. I can’t thank LoudMouth Exhaust enough for coming on board. This is a good debut for them. They will be on our car in Charlotte. We will go have some fun in two weeks, a home track for us, and hopefully we can get one spot better.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Fleetwood/REV Group Ford Mustang – FINISHED 7th
CLEARLY YOU ARE DISAPPOINTED. WHAT WAS THE ISSUE TODAY? “We just weren’t fast today. Straight up. We may have missed at the beginning part of the race and made some adjustments to get better but gosh, we were just slow. There is no good answer behind it. We could have lucked into a second place finish if we were fourth instead of third on that last restart because the inside lane doesn’t go. I don’t know. That would have been a lucky second though and not representative if what we had out there today.”

DARRELL WALLACE JR. POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE

A SECOND PLACE FINISH OUT THERE TODAY FOR YOU. “Yeah, it was a good call by Seth. He is known for making some gutsy good calls and it works out in our favor a lot. It is good to be teamed up with him. We have a lot of chemistry together. Finishing second after the weekend started, that isn’t what we had in mind for sure. We just wanted a clean race and not another tore up race car. We did that and exceeded our expectations. We fired off really well in the heat race. Our balance was a little better than everybody else, we just got caught back in track position. I felt like if we could have carried what we had in the heat race into the main that we would have a really good race and that worked out. The credit goes to my guys, obviously, for bringing out a backup car and thrashing that thing. It wasn’t what we wanted to do, especially with a new sponsor on board this weekend. I can’t thank LoudMouth Exhaust enough for coming on our Ford Mustang. It is a good day for us. This is my favorite track and to do really well after the season we have had – we have been working really hard but running into some dead end spots. We keep turning around and searching for more. We will go have some fun on this off weekend and go searching for more at home in two weeks.”

WHAT CAN THIS FINISH DO FOR YOU AND YOUR SEASON? “That was big. Obviously, backing up what Alex said, we have to win races. He is in a tougher spot than I am and that was a hell of a job by him but I have to do the same thing. We will be fighting all day over that. We just have to continue on. We can use this for motivation but I said earlier we are nowhere near close to where we need to be. We are off on speed and handling and we know that. We have another off weekend to find some more for our Ford Mustangs. We have to keep plugging away. We can’t get frustrated and just give up on it. We have to keep our heads up and work together to get our team better. This is a really good day for us. I can go to sleep tonight knowing that we gave it our all, especially after the backup car and all those shenanigans, it kind of erased that, until I go in Monday and hear all about it again in the debrief.”

WHAT HAS IT MEANT TO HAVE CONSISTENCY WITH YOUR CREW CHIEF FROM LAST YEAR TO THIS YEAR AND BUILD ON THAT RELATIONSHIP FOR THE FUTURE? “It has been big. That is probably the biggest thing I brought to the argument. Why have six months together and then start over again? We did do the crew chief game for about a week or two and I thought my dad was going to come back and crew chief it there for a second. It is good to stick with Seth and we haven’t had our best season and everybody knows it but these little spurts of good finishes, Daytona, Auto Club, here, hopefully next weekend, we can use that. We know each other and are working well together. It is more internal than what we have and we have to really sit down and go through A to Z and back again to figure out why we are struggling so bad but this kind of brings the mood up after the start of this weekend. We can at least have cordial conversation instead of being pissed off at each other for wrecking a car.”
