30th Chase Briscoe
39th Austin Cindric

COLE CUSTER, No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang (Finished 26th)

YOU GOT MAJOR DAMAGE ON LAP ONE AND SOMEHOW WERE ABLE TO PILOT THIS THING THROUGH THE WHOLE RACE: “Yeah, I have no idea what happened. It seemed like I kind of got loose before everyone started wrecking. I don’t know if something was wrong with the track or something. We all wrecked on lap one and that kind of sunk our boat. We fixed the car and muscled it out but it is what it is. We will have to go try to win at Texas and Phoenix.”

YOU HAD NO POWER STEERING THE ENTIRE RACE, WHAT IS THAT LIKE? “It sucked. It took a lot. I didn’t think I was going to make it after about 30 laps but you kind of get used to it and find a way to get a rhythm. Hopefully I don’t ever have to do that again.”

IT WASN’T A PLAYOFF DRIVER TO WIN TODAY, HOW BIG IS THAT FOR YOUR CHANCES THAT A SPOT DIDN’T GET CLINCHED TODAY? “Yeah, that was pretty huge. It still doesn’t matter because we are really far out so I think we will have to win a race unless everyone else has some problems. It was better for us than the 21 winning. I would like Daniel (Hemric) win because he is a friend of mine, but it definitely helps us that the 42 wins.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang (Retired after accident on Lap 1) – WHAT HAPPENED? “It was just a racing incident. YOu don’t really expect something that big to happen in front of you on the first lap. Looked like the 7 got loose into the 20 and we got collected. It is unfortunate that it happened that early. Huge points implications on my end and the owners championship end. I have to put my head down the next couple weeks and figure it out.”

LOOKED LIKE YOU GOT AIRBORNE A LITTLE: “Yeah, you wreck in front of half the field running third and you will get hit by a lot of cars. I am proud to be in safe race cars and be able to be safe. I have visited the care center more times than I care to admit this year. It is a credit to everyone building the cars and the NASCAR medical staff and everyone that makes these cars as safe as they are.”

A LOT CAN HAPPEN STILL, BUT HOW DOES THIS CHANGE YOUR URGENCY AT TEXAS AND PHOENIX? “Well, now I have to go figure out how to win one of the next two races. Three of the strongest cars were just taken out on the first lap. I feel like we had a chance to win the race today. I was really proud of what the Penske guys brought me this weekend, but that is racing. I think this hurts me a lot more than it hurts the 20 and the 7 because they had a huge points cushion and I didn’t. It is that simple. I have to win one of the next two races but we have a pretty good notebook since the 22 car won both Texas and Phoenix in the spring. I have a lot of confidence going into those races.”
