Front Row Motorsports AAA 400 Race Preview

AAA 400
Dover International Speedway, Dover, Del.

Brett Moffitt | No. 34 CSX ‘Play It Safe’ Ford

“I really like Dover. I’ve won a couple times there. My last Cup race there didn’t go so well, but races before that have always gone really well for me. Hopefully we can improve upon our package that we took there last time and try to get a little bit better. Concrete tracks are tough when they rubber up, and it’s hard to hit the set-up just right. It’s easy to be off. Hopefully we’ll go back with a little more knowledge and be a little bit better with our CSX ‘Play It Safe’ Ford.

“It was wild first going to Dover in the K&N East cars. As a 16-year-old, being wide open in qualifying was a little nerve-wracking. But now, with more experience there, it’s just a fun place to be. When the track’s green, it has a lot of grip and it’s just a blast to drive.”

JUST THE FACTS: Moffitt has two Sprint Cup career starts at Dover International Speedway … His best finish at the “Monster Mile” is 22nd, earned in 2014 in his Sprint Cup debut … Moffitt won his third straight Sunoco Rookie of the Race award last week and leads the Rookie of the Year campaign by 11 points … CSX returns as primary sponsor of the No. 34 Ford for the event, promoting the “Play It Safe” railroad safety initiative … Moffitt will hold an autograph session in the Monster Mile Youth Nation display in the Monster FunZone on Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Cole Whitt | No. 35 Rinnai/Dockside Logistics Ford

“Dover is always a fun track. Going down into Turn 1 and into Turn 3, going under the bridge and dropping off into the banking and loading up, there are a lot of things happening at the same time, and you’ve got to be really close on your marks. To be good there, you’ve got to have all the pieces come together. You’ve got to be on your game.

“Dover is going to be a good one with the Chase cut-off coming up. It’s going to be interesting to see who shines in the Chase because our series has been back and forth with who’s really been dominant. There are a lot of different teams that have been dominant at different times.”

JUST THE FACTS: Whitt has four Sprint Cup career starts at Dover International Speedway … His best finish at the one-mile oval is 26th (2015) … Rinnai and Dockside Logistics will be on board as co-primary sponsors of the No. 35 Ford.

David Gilliland | No. 38 MDS Transport Ford

“Going from Loudon to Dover is a big change. Dover is probably one of my favorite racetracks. So, maybe it’s pretty obvious that I like banking and faster tracks. Dover is a lot of fun. There’s no other track like it. It’s kind of like a little bit bigger Bristol. It’s its own animal for sure. When you pull off the straightaway and down into the corner, it’s quite a ride. And you’ve got to get your car where you feel like you’re in as much control as you can be. But you’re never in 100-percent control. But it’s a lot of fun, and it’s been one of our more competitive tracks as a team, so we’re really eager to get back to Dover.”

JUST THE FACTS:  Gilliland has 18 Sprint Cup starts at Dover International Speedway … His best finish at the “Monster Mile” is 16th (2008) … MDS returns to the No. 38 team as primary sponsor for the Dover race weekend.
