AMS Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Richard Petty’s Final Nascar Race with Exclusive Ticket Offer and Experience

HAMPTON, Ga. – Atlanta Motor Speedway will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Hooters 500 Cup Series race, known as one of the greatest NASCAR races of all time, in which racing legend and NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty made his final career start, with a special ticket offer and exclusive race-day experience for the first 500 fans who take advantage.

With the purchase of a $69 Upper Petty Grandstand ticket for Sunday’s race, fans can add a $10 upgrade which includes a replica ticket from the 1992 Hooters 500, a commemorative Richard Petty hero card, access to an exclusive Q&A session with Richard Petty on race day and a chance to win one of 43 replica 1992 Hooters 500 tickets signed by “The King” himself. One dollar from each upgrade purchase will go towards the Petty Family Foundation and Victory Junction.

The package is also available as an upgrade for any fan who has previously purchased a Sunday ticket valued at $69 or more and member of Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Insiders Club, regardless of seat location.

The 1992 race at AMS, perhaps the most influential NASCAR event ever, solidified its place in racing lore for more reasons than one. As Petty, whose storied career included a record 200 wins and spanned more than three decades, made his final career start, a little-known driver by the name of Jeff Gordon simultaneously made his first start at NASCAR’s top level. But just as significant as the proverbial passing of the baton between Petty and Gordon, was the down-to-the-wire battle that took place that day for the 1992 Cup championship.

Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki and Bill Elliott all made bids for the race victory and the season title, but in the end, a clever pit strategy pulled off by Kulwicki allowed him to lead the most laps of the race and steal the championship out from under Elliott, edging him in the standings with bonus points, despite Elliott winning the race.

Along with the 25th anniversary of the 1992 race, Atlanta Motor Speedway will take part in the festivities of Richard Petty’s 10-month campaign celebrating his 80th birthday, which he will mark in 2017.

NASCAR racing returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway March 3-5, 2017, featuring the Atlanta 250 XFINITY Series and Active Pest Control 200 Camping World Truck Series doubleheader on Saturday, March 4 and the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, March 5 For more information, contact the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211, (877) 9-AMS-TIX or visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.
