Bayne Finishes 23rd in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 30, 2016) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a 23rd-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

“We were really tight on the short-run,” said Bayne after the race. “We had a really fast AdvoCare Ford on the long-run but we just lost too much track position on the short-run because of how tight we were. We fought hard all race long and my guys never gave up. We’ll move on from this weekend and get ready to head to Texas next week and race in AdvoCare’s backyard.”

Bayne took the green flag for the 500-Lap event from the 31st position and steadily worked his way forward, driving up to as high as 23rd before a tight-handling condition hindered the AdvoCare Ford’s performance through the corner. This handling condition persisted throughout a green-flag run of over 100 laps that dominated the middle portion of the event.

As the long green-flag run progressed the handling of the AdvoCare Ford improved and Bayne began to run lap times as fast as the race leaders. Crew chief Matt Puccia then decided to call Bayne to pit road during the lone round of green-flag pit stops on Lap 353 for four tires and a chassis adjustment in the hopes of gaining track position on the rest of the field. An untimely caution just four laps later unfortunately nullified that plan and trapped Bayne off of the lead lap.

In the closing stages, Bayne fought to regain as much track position as he could before taking the checkered flag in the 23rd position.

Next up for the NSCS in Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 6.
