TEAM CHEVY DRIVER PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT

OCTOBER 21, 2011

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 U.S. ARMY CHEVROLET met with members of the media at Talladega Superspeedway and discussed his race car and drafting with teammate Tony Stewart. Full transcript:

TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT BEING AT TALLADEGA THIS WEEKEND AND YOUR PRACTICE SESSIONS TODAY:

“We only ran one practice session and our car felt pretty good, there was not much we could do to improve the car if anything at all. We skipped the second practice session and just got the car ready for qualifying and the race. Talladega is a crap-shoot, I am sure you have heard it several times today but we will do what we have to do and see if we are lucky enough to stay out of everybody else’s mess and not cause our own.”

IF IT IS THE LAST LAP OR THE LAST COUPLE OF LAPS OF THE RACE AND YOU ARE PUSHING YOUR TEAMMATE TONY STEWART, WHAT INCENTIVE IS THERE TO PASS TONY AND TRY TO WIN THE RACE?

“I think the best way to answer whatever question that was, is to say that whatever we can do to get both cars as high as we can at the end of the day is what we need to do. If that requires me to pass him or him to pass me and finish one-two, or one-three, or two-four, or whatever it is then that is what we will do.”
