A TUMS ‘FIGHTS BACK FAST’ MOMENT – EARLY WEEKEND PROBLEMS NO ISSUE FOR DAVEY ALLISON ON RACE DAY

A TUMS “FightS back fast”MOMENT

(For each of the 36 races during the 2011 Sprint Cup season, TUMS will provide a brief historical recap of a moment when a team fought back to overcome an obstacle, one that can easily be described as a TUMS “Fights Back Fast” Moment. This week, the focus is on Phoenix International Raceway).

EARLY WEEKEND PROBLEMS NO ISSUE FOR DAVEY ALLISON ON RACE DAY

The date was Nov. 3, 1991.  After struggling to get his car good enough to qualify for the Pyroil 500 to Phoenix International Raceway, Davey Allison led the final third of the race to score his fifth victory of the season.

NOTE:  TUMS is the sponsor of the TUMS Fast Relief 500, the seventh race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, at Martinsville Speedway on October 30.

Allison led 161 of the final 166 laps after finding the perfect chassis and tire combination at the mid-point of the race.  After taking the lead from Bobby Hamilton, Allison built an 11.4-second advantage over second-place Darrell Waltrip at the finish.

“We struggled all day Friday and all day Saturday,” Allison said.  “We just weren’t where we needed to be.  We made some good adjustments on race morning. I was surprised I whipped the field.  To be as far off as we were in practice and be as good as we were in the race is just unbelievable.”

After a difficult weekend, Allison and team fought back fast to perfect the car on race day and notch a win at the Pyroil 500.
