Roush Fenway’s Stenhouse Jr. Looks for a Pair of “Firsts” this Weekend at Indianapolis

“25 Winning Years” – RFR Boasts Stellar History in Inaugural NASCAR Events

CONCORD, N.C. (July 26, 2012) — Despite a strong track record, Roush Fenway Racing has never won a NASCAR race at the famed 2.5 -mile quad oval of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With the onset of the inaugural Nationwide Series event at the Brickyard, the team will have a pair of chances there this weekend, 2011 Nationwide Series Champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., getting the first crack at the feat on Saturday.

“Our race is the first race there this weekend, and it would be cool to not only get the first Nationwide Series win at Indy, but also Roush Fenway’s first win there,” said Stenhouse, who has won three times already this season in the NNS.

“I’ve been to an Indy 500 and a Brickyard 400 and it’s a race track that has not only NASCAR fans that show up, but Indianapolis Motor Speedway fans. I think it would be very cool to win at a place that has that kind of following and brings that kind of history.”

If history is any indicator, RFR might stand its best chance in Saturday’s inaugural Nationwide Series event. RFR has a stellar history in inaugural NASCAR events. The organization won the inaugural Nationwide races at Texas, Nashville and Elkhart Lake, as well as the first ever NASCAR race at Kentucky in 2000. In addition, RFR won the inaugural Cup event at Las Vegas in 1998, as well as the inaugural Cup (and NNS) race at Texas 1997.

Stenhouse will look to earn Roush Fenway’s first win at the Brickyard on Saturday. RFR does boast a pair of NNS wins at Indianapolis Raceway Park – just down the street from IMS – where the series competed prior to this weekend. However, a win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway would be a nice addition to the team’s “25 Winning Years” history that already includes 304 wins and a Nationwide Series record 127 victories.
