Back in the saddle… Brad Sweet will return to the seat of the No. 38 Great Clips machine this weekend for the NASCAR Nationwide Series’ (NNS) second stop of the season at Iowa Speedway. Sweet competed in the first event at the Newton-based track and was poised for a seventh-place finish before the leaders wrecked coming to the checkered flag, forcing the rookie to take evasive action. He went on to cross the line in the 13th position.

Sweet also has experience at Iowa Speedway from his open wheel days, having wheeled Silver Crown cars and midgets around the 7/8-mile track numerous times throughout his career.

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-319 this weekend at Iowa Speedway. This is the same chassis Sweet piloted in his last stop at Iowa, finishing 13th. This chassis last saw track time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway where Kahne brought home a sixth-place finish, as well as Richmond International Raceway and Phoenix International Raceway, where Kahne finished 18th and 10th, respectively.

Celebrating 30 Years… Great Clips is celebrating their 30th birthday by giving away a 2012 Camaro! In addition, three lucky winners will win a trip to November’s Great Clips 200 at Phoenix International Raceway! Just sign up to win by texting CAMARO to 47328 (Canadian residents text CAMARO to 77777) or go to www.greatclips.com to enter or get more details. The sweepstakes runs now through August 15th. Three finalists will be chosen after August 15th, and they will win a trip for themselves and a guest to attend the Great Clips 200 Nationwide race in Phoenix, AZ on November 10th. Each finalist will be given a key to the Camaro – but only one will have the “lucky key” that will start the car and win!

Great Clips Wins Again with Saldana… Kasey Kahne Racing’s, Joey Saldana, scored another win for Great Clips last weekend when the World of Outlaws visited Autodrome Drummond. This was the fifth feature win of the season for Saldana and the No. 9 Great Clips team and Saldana’s 83rd career win with the Outlaws.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38 as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

Sweet on this weekend’s NNS race at Iowa

“I’m looking forward to going back to Iowa. It’s nice going back to a track for a second time, knowing that I’m already familiar with its characteristics and what I need in the car to be successful. We had a great run going there in the first race and should have brought home a top-10 until that accident on the last lap. I think we will be able to go out there and pick up where we left off and put another solid race together.”

Weekend Rewind: Indianapolis – Justin Allgaier and the BRANDT team headed to the hallowed ground of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the driver’s first ever start. The team had extremely high hopes, bringing a new chassis and new paint scheme featuring BRANDT partner, Precision Tank & Equipment. In the end, Allgaier brought home a 12th-place finish and gained three points in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) point standings. Allgaier remains in fifth place, 75 points out of the lead.

Allgaier at Iowa Speedway – Allgaier has made five previous starts at the .875-mile Iowa short track, his last coming when the series visited in May. In those starts, the Midwest-native has notched three top-10s, led 49 laps and boasts a 6.0 starting average, coupled with an average finish of 13.2. At the May race, Allgaier started fifth and finished sixth, his highest track-finish to date.

Come See Me – Allgaier will make two public appearances this weekend at Iowa Speedway. The first is the track autograph session beginning at 1:45 p.m. and the second is at the Chevy display for Q&A at 3:00 p.m.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will drive TMS-320 in the U.S. Cellular 200 at Iowa Speedway. This car has become a short track workhorse, previously being used at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (eighth), Iowa Speedway I (sixth), Richmond International Raceway (15th) and Phoenix International Raceway (15th).

Allgaier on returning to Iowa Speedway:

“I think it’s great that we have the chance to return to Iowa for a second time this season. The fans there are just so incredible and pack the stands every time we come out. I really enjoy the opportunity we have to be the feature race there as well. We are bringing back a car that’s done pretty well on the short tracks. We had our best finish in it at Iowa in the spring. It will definitely be interesting though, racing there at night. I absolutely love short track racing under the lights. I’ve said it before, but I’d love it if we could make every race at night! It just brings an added element of excitement for both us as drivers, as well as the fans.”

No. 30 Great Clips / AccuDoc Solutions Chevrolet News and Notes

Welcome back Jason Leffler… Jason Leffler returns to his previous home of Turner Motorsports to drive the No. 30 Chevrolet this weekend at Iowa Speedway. Saturday night’s event will mark his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start of the 2012 season. Turner Motorsports marketing partners, AccuDoc Solutions and Great Clips, have partnered for this race as co-sponsors in support of Leffler, who has represented them so well over the years.

Leffler at Iowa Speedway, by the numbers… Based on Leffler’s stats at the 7/8-mile track, it makes perfect sense that Turner Motorsports would tap him to pilot their No. 30 entry this weekend. In four starts, the Long Beach-native has two third-place finishes and just one finish outside of the top-15. He has an average start of 8.8 and an average finish of 13.0.

“It’s Gonna be Great” for Leffler… Not only will this be a homecoming of sorts for Leffler, but he will also reunite with long-time sponsor, Great Clips. The Great Clips logo will adorn the hood and decklid of the No. 30 Chevrolet, which will also feature the AccuDoc Solutions logo on the quarter panels. Leffler drove the No. 38 Great Clips machine for six years for Braun Racing and then Turner Motorsports (2006-2011).

No. 30 Season-To-Date Stats… The No. 30 team, led by crew chief Trent Owens, has had an impressive season so far. A victory in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway with driver James Buescher was followed with a second victory in June at Road America with Nelson Piquet Jr. On top of the two wins, the team has three top-fives and nine top-10 finishes.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 30 team will unload chassis TMS-323 this weekend at Iowa Speedway. This chassis has seen track time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway where Jamie McMurray finished 9th, as well as Auto Club Speedway and Darlington Raceway where James Buescher finished 12th and ninth, respectively.

Leffler on racing at Iowa Speedway this weekend

“I really can’t say enough how excited I am to drive the No. 30 car for Turner Motorsports this weekend! This team was home to me for seven years, so to have the chance to get back together with these guys and go racing is awesome! I like the Iowa track a lot and always seem to run pretty well there. My goal this weekend is pretty simple – I’m planning to go out there and win. That’s really all there is to it. Great Clips has been a huge part of my career over the years and Harry Scott (No. 30 team owner) has been a big support for me, so if I could go out there and get the win for them, it would mean a lot.”
