KEYS FOR SUCCESS: AAA Texas 500

FORT WORTH (Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012) – Each race weekend, SRT Motorsports provides insight on the ‘Keys for Success’ for the upcoming race. This week SRT Motorsports engineer Howard Comstock discusses the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Track: Texas Motor Speedway (Race 34 of 36 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the eighth race in the 10-race Chase for the Sprint Cup).

Trivia Question: (Answer Below) How many Sprint Cup Series races this season have been extended beyond the scheduled distance?

HOWARD COMSTOCK (SRT Motorsports Engineering) Don’t Forget About Pit Road: “It’s a long race with long green-flag runs. You have to be careful on pit road. Drivers continue to get caught speeding, costing them valuable track position. Somebody is going to get in trouble tomorrow on pit road because they’re not paying attention.”

Fuel Economy: “We talk about it almost every week, but fuel mileage will be a key tomorrow. We’re in the 34th of 36 Cup Series races and we’re still talking about fuel mileage, it’s not by coincidence. Fuel economy is a big issue. Some drivers have handled it better than others this year. Our Dodge R6 engine has proven to be the best in the garage with fuel economy and it may very well play out tomorrow.”

Run Your Race: “It’s really important, especially if you’re the No. 2 Dodge team, to run your race. I think they’re independent thinkers and it has gotten them this far. Don’t change now. Run your race and understand the limits of your car and the limits of changes you can make to you’re your car. Brad (Keselowski) is one of the best in the garage at saving fuel and we think we have an advantage with our R6 engine with fuel mileage. Advantage Brad Keselowski.”

Trivia Answer: 8 (Daytona, Martinsville, Talladega, Darlington, Sonoma, Michigan 2, Atlanta and Talladega 2)
