BACK TO THE BULLRING: Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team head to the half-mile track at Bristol Motor Speedway for the fourth event of the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. The Emporia, Va., native has 12 Nationwide Series starts at Bristol with two wins, one pole award, five top-five and six top-10 finishes, as well as 172 laps led. He brings experience from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with 25 starts, one win, three top-five and four top-10 finishes. Sadler also made two NASCAR Camping World Series starts with one pole award and one top-10 finish.
AIMING FOR BACK-TO-BACK: In the March 2012 event at Bristol, Sadler competed at the front of the pack for the entirety of the race. In a gutsy call, Sadler stayed out on the track during the final caution period as the only leading car not to pit. The OneMain Financial driver was able to hold off a charge from behind to drive to a commanding lead, earning his second victory of the 2012 Nationwide Series season.
DEFENDING CHAMPION: Sadler is the defending winner of not only the Nationwide Series event at Bristol, but he is also the four-time champion of the Bristol Motor Speedway Food City Race Night Wii Boxing Championship. Sadler aims to defend his title and become the five-time winner of the competition on Friday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m at Bristol’s Food City Race Night. For more information, visit www.bristolmotorspeedway.com
MARCH MADNESS: Sadler will brush up on his free-throw shot at Bristol Motor Speedway as part of the Toyota Tundra Tourney presented by OneMain Financial. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in giveaways, driver Q&As and even compete against Sadler in a basketball competition. The event will be held at the Earhart Campgrounds on Saturday and Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway, with Sadler taking on fans at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
LAST WEEK IN LAS VEGAS: Rain in the desert forced the cancelation of qualifying at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last weekend. Sadler lined up in the 15th position, according to 2012 Nationwide Series owner point standings, and began to work his way through the field when the green flag waved. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver moved into the third position with less than 15 laps to go in the event, but was shuffled back to the fifth position on the final restart. Sadler finished fifth, notching his second top-five finish of the season.
TO THE POINT: After three of 33 Nationwide Series events, Sadler moved up into the second position in the driver championship point standings, tied with two other drivers 19 points behind the leader.
THINK PINK: The OneMain Financial driver will sport pink Oakley driving shoes throughout the entire Nationwide Series season to show support for breast cancer awareness and honor his mom, Bell. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and is now a survivor. This season, he will also wear special pink Oakley driving gloves. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on his race-worn shoes throughout the season, with proceeds going toward breast cancer research and education. For more information, visit www.onemainracing.com
RACE INFO: The Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway will be on ESPN 2 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time, as well as PRN and SIRIUSXM 90.
Elliott Sadler Quotes:
“Winning at Bristol Motor Speedway last March was definitely one of my favorite moments of my career. I was able to celebrate in Victory Lane with my parents for the first time. It is one of those moments that I will never forget.
Bristol Motor Speedway has always been special to me because I attended races there as a fan when I was a kid. My dad would take us, and I used to sit in those stands and dream about winning a race there. To be able to race there years later, winning a race early in my Nationwide Series career in 1998 and win my first-career Sprint Cup Series race in 2001 was special. I think that’s what makes the win last year so memorable. My family has been there from the beginning, and to finally have them in Victory Lane was the icing on the cake.
I’m really confident heading into this weekend. Bristol really seems to fit my driving style well, and I really love racing there. It’s close to home, so we always have lots of family and friends that make the trip. My Joe Gibbs Racing team has worked so hard this season, and after only three races, we are learning more and more about working together and about this OneMain Financial Toyota Camry.”
