Elliott Sadler – Watkins Glen International Event Preview – No. 11 OneMain Financial Toyota

HEADING TO THE GLEN: The No. 11 OneMain Financial team and driver Elliott Sadler travel to Watkins Glen International for the second of three road course races of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season. Sadler has four Nationwide Series starts at the track, which include one top-10 finish in 2011. The Emporia, Va., driver also has 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at the New York track, including a best finish of seventh in 2006.

LAST TIME AROUND: In the 2012 event at Watkins Glen International, Sadler started from the seventh position at the scenic road course in upstate New York. Battling a lack of rear-grip, Sadler maneuvered his way around the 11-turn to finish 12th.

MEET SADLER: Fans will have the opportunity to meet Sadler at the McDonald’s Fan Zone with Coca-Cola Racing on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m.

LAST RACE: Iowa II:  Under the lights at Iowa Speedway last weekend, Sadler and the No. 11 team started from the 10th position for the 250-lap event. The team struggled with the Toyota’s handling throughout the race, utilizing schedule pit stops to make changes to alleviate the problem. The team opted for two tires on the last pit stop, moving up to the third position, but slipped to eighth when the checkered flag waved.

TO THE POINT: Sadler remains in the fourth position in the Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, 19 points behind the leader.

THINK PINK: The OneMain Financial driver will sport pink Oakley driving shoes throughout the entire Nationwide Series season to show support for breast cancer awareness and honor his mom, Bell. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and is now a survivor. This season, he will also wear special pink Oakley driving gloves. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on his race-worn shoes throughout the season, with proceeds going toward breast cancer research and education. Elliott Sadler Quotes:

“I really enjoy road course racing. Watkins Glen International is different than the other road courses on the schedule. I think that it is faster than Road America and Sonoma. I do have a lot of experience at Watkins Glen from racing in the Sprint Cup Series for so many years, and I have learned that if you make it through the s-curves and around the back-side of the carousel, you are doing well. This OneMain Financial team has not given up all year, and we learned a lot from our first road course race at Road America that we are going to use at Watkins Glen.”
