Following a mid-race incident, Jim Bowman would finish 18th in the rain shortened OSCAAR Super Late Model Feature at Sunset Speedway.
Bowman started the afternoon off by finishing fifth in his heat.
Come feature time, Bowman started 17th in the feature and continued to battle hard, looking to improve his position. However, trouble struck the Power To Go Motorsports team on lap 14 when Bowman got tangled up with Quinn Misener on the fronstretch. The contact resulted in heavy nose damage to Bowman’s Super Late Model. After a lengthy pit stop, the damaged nose was removed and Bowman headed back out on track.
Bowman restarted at the tail of the field and looked to begin climbing back through the running order once again when the caution would come out for rain on lap 20. As a result, the race would be called, 30 laps before competition. Bowman was running 18th at the time of the rain.
Due to the racing being called before reaching halfway, OSCAAR announced that they will not give out points for position, but rather “show-up points”.
“Under OSCAAR rules, a race must reach the halfway point in order to be considered official for drivers to earn points in the championship standings,” OSCAAR released. “The heat races were completed and drivers will receive the appropriate points for their heat race efforts. All drivers will receive 50 ‘show-up’ points towards their championship standings.”
