Driver Believes Night Race Will Produce More Grip, Better Racing
STATESVILLE, MAY 6, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Long John Silver’s Ford, comments on racing at Kansas Speedway:
“I love night racing so I think it will be great. Kansas is a great racetrack, and I personally like the banking that they added. It fits my racing style a little bit better. The day race there was never my favorite race, but now it’s something we’re definitely looking forward to. I think the car’s going to have more grip, and more grip promotes better racing. The season’s already gotten kicked off with a bunch of different winners, and I think that opportunity applies to Front Row Motorsports, too.
“Kansas still drives like a fairly new surface. I haven’t heard from anybody that’s tested there this year to know if it’s really changed much more this year. It takes a little bit more time than that, so I think it will drive similar to last year, only under the lights.”
JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 10 Sprint Cup career starts at Kansas Speedway … He has three consecutive top-25 finishes at the 1.5-mile oval … His top finish at Kansas is 22nd (2006).
